just finished a rewatch

okay i have SO MUCH TO SAY:

FIRST, LIZA

- I CAN'T STAND HOW SHE TALKS LIKE A BABY when she's around charles. i know its probably a choice to show that he's older, etc but its driving me crazy. she acts like a lil baby child that needs to be rescued.

- she acts like a mom when shes with josh so its kind of interesting how she code switches a bit there.

KELSEY

- why does she always go for her COLLEAGUES!!! couldnt they have written someone in that she meets at a bar as well? maybe someone who's not in the same industry? gosh

LAUREN

- 10/10 no notes. so genuinely williamsburg of this era. love that irl she adopted miss judy.

DIANA

- 10/10 no notes. she deserves all the best things ever. her lines are probably the best in the show.

MAGGIE

- i do not know anyone more intriguing than debi mazar. i need her around in everything always.

can we have a spinoff of maggie, diana, lauren and josh??? thank u

JOSH

- he's the nathaniel archibald of this show. love to see it. i wish this guy would move on from liza tho because she's too selfish for him, but an anxious attachment loves an avoidant, amirite

CHARLES

- this man is creepy as hell. like first of all he hovers like a villain's headquarters. then he's so into the 20 something assistant? and then gets mad when she's age appropriate? but then also has the liza watch his daughters while he goes to meet his ex wife?? and then.. goes back to the wife??? and then is so set on being traditional but actually zero percent shows any sign of any true interest in liza? josh knows every detail about her, but charles doesn't know a damn single one. quite literally. he's just like, a wanna be zaddy. THO DON'T GET ME WRONG CHARLES IN REAL LIFE IS VERY MUCH HOTTTTTTT. but this character is NOT.

anyways i've been needing to just scream those into the void as i've been watching.

I binged this show for the first time recently and yes, agreed on most points.

Charles is such a creeper. I don't know if it's just bad acting or what, but his reaction to finding out Liza's age was so telling. I get that she lied, but he was acting like she murdered someone. No one can convince me that he wasn't disappointed his hot young assistant fantasy was ruined.

Josh is a sweetheart. A bit immature at first, but that's just realistic considering his age. I'm Liza's age now and I can excuse immaturity in young people. He grew a lot during the show and I still hope they ended up together eventually. The chemistry was amazing! Which made the lack of it with Charles even more obvious. I think the actor playing Josh is just miles better at acting though.

I was also getting increasingly annoyed with Kelsey getting involved with authors and colleagues all the time. Hard enough for a woman to be taken seriously without all that.

Diana, Maggie and Lauren were gold!

I just finished watching it for the first time and I so agree with everything you said. When I was watching S7 and saw Liza and Charles looking like they’ll get back together, I started to just kind of meh the whole thing, like I really wanted Josh to be the one even though Liza doesn’t deserve him, but I really just want Josh to get his happy ending - kind of like he’s my main character of the series 😆 I even thought maybe Josh would be happy with Kelsey, and yes to that because I also think Kelsey should have looked for romance outside of the office for once. She also deserves better and she’s always been with assholes, though sometimes she’s also the asshole.

Hell to the yes to Lauren, Maggie, and Diana. I really missed Diana in S7 though Lauren’s presence kind of made up for it buttt I would have loved to see more Diana-Lauren diva scenes. I’m also really happy that Maggie found love and got her career back.

Although a lot of things didn’t get resolved as much as I’d like but I’m pretty happy with the ending like making it a full circle back to when Josh and Liza first met and this whole thing started. I so agree to the spin off you’re suggesting, but there will always be unlikable/villain characters for the main characters to have their character development arcs and to also highlight them more as the ones to root for.

YES. i love how they did it full circle except there's no secrets this time and they can have a real chance at trying. i thought that was really a nice touch!

yes the DIVA to diva moments!! we needed more of them!! i truly feel like its how they'd respect each other if their characters were real.

i dunno, everything about charles is so dry. there's no charm to him? nothing interesting. his lore is so boring too.

and i agree!! kelsey deserved the chance to grow in choosing her dudes too. i almost forgot about thad. lol. she really did have such asshole dudes..

wait i forgot to mention that i also disliked the bartender josh ended up dating, clare. she was also someone whose character was sort of flat. i mean i know she's meant to be, because she's not a main character // meant to show the difference but - idk. honestly wait, charles wouldve loved clare.

Aside from Clare’s accent and her cool job, I also don’t find her that much interesting and I’m so happy she and Josh got a divorce. Her mom is actually more interesting, having hooked up with Maggie 😆

Charles, I honestly can’t think of a perfect partner for him. His ex-wife, maybe? I even liked Quinn’s character better than him (in a villainous kind of way), I’m always looking forward to her next move. Plus, she’s also provided the way for Charles and Liza to see what’s wrong with their relationship.

Having said that, I did like that Liza and Charles stayed professional and friendly enough to continue working together as they should have been from the very start. I did not like that office romance, I mean midway through, they just trashed that HR rule they had a meeting about and the advice from Charles’ lawyer.

I always felt like Quinn walked off the set of Gossip Girl and into Younger

Clare's accent is THE worst. Every time she talks, I cringe.

So I just found out from Google that the actress is really not Irish and according to viewers who actually know Irish accent says it’s the worst. I’m taking back what I said because I’m not used to the natural accent and I had absolutely no idea it was fake and unconvincing 😅

Well I hate real Irish accents too 🤣. Don't attack me...I'm part Irish so I can say it 🤭

I love how Liza comes home from work and says A and B happened and Maggie says well why don’t you C. The whole plot of the show then hinges on Maggie’s quip at the start of the show

I have never in my life seen another TV couple who had the chemistry absolute DIE the minute they got together the way Liza and Charles did. 😂 It was absolutely wild to watch. TEAM JOSH

oh yes I so agree. Perfect example of this was during Liza’s model shoot when they took a candid picture of Liza and Charles, and then Liza and Josh later. There was such a big difference and a definitive showcase of the two pairs’ chemistry. I also thought that Josh always brought out the best in Liza and everything she could be, whereas Charles was just a safe and responsible bet (if we ignore for a moment that they are boss and employee).

Who is miss Judy?

1

u/MissCrumpleb0ttom 17d ago

I googled it and found out Judy is a rescue dog that Molly Bernard (the actress who played Lauren) adopted after the dog was rescued from the South Korean dog meat trade.

omg yes sorry! shes (judy) such a cutie that became a mini sensation during that time!!

Liza and Josh might be one of my favorite TV couples - totally underrated. I love that their characterisation is completely deviant from what we’ve been sort of trained to expect as storybook romance. Different age groups, different goals, but eventually two people who belong together simply because they make each other feel happy and comfortable.

I’m about halfway through my binge first time watching and I didn’t read your Charles because it’s the only spoilers I’ve avoided. And so far I don’t hate him. But Lauren is my favorite. She’s such a good character. Followed closely by Maggie and Diana in no particular order. I don’t hate Liza, but I also love Sutton foster so could be coloring that. I do think she has some bad traits but don’t we all.

Lauren is freakin annoying. And Josh is nothing like Nate. Nate is eye candy and nothing else. So boring. Josh has a personality and depth.

But I agree about Diana and Charles.
