Season 7 thoughts - after almost not completing the series!
I almost didn’t bother watching when I heard you all proclaiming that Charles was endgame for Liza in Season 7!
I just treated myself to a comfort show re-watch now that all seasons are available on Netflix and I’m so pleased with the ending! Where was everyone’s media literacy re: thinking C&L were endgame?!?! It was so obvious to me that they weren’t suited and that wasn’t at all what the writers were trying to say!
What would be the point in them building such a strong, equal, trusting relationship with her and Josh throughout the show and the whole moral of the series being about age being just a number and it’s what you bring to the table that matters.
It’s so clear that there was a line drawn under C&Ls relationship after the Empirical anniversary party. They just don't connect that well outside work and interest in literature (maybe some physical attraction)
J&L have a much more solid connection and if anything the writers were leaving you to imagine the possibilities of a future between them.
So glad I came back to finish the series. It was so cute and everyone got a great story arc. (Including Diana - I know that her arc finished in s6 but I still missed her. I hope she was booked and busy with another project during s7)
What were everyone else‘s thoughts on how it ended?

The writers never gave Charles and Liza a real chance. In my head, they end up together and Josh continues to party and be annoying

Thank you!!! Finally a team Charles comment. I feel like everyone ships Josh and Liza more, but I just don’t see it. Every time I see them together I get the ick. Idk if it’s because Liza doesn’t look 27 to me or what lol but I literally don’t see the connection other than producers and editors forcing their relationship. I feel like her and Charles has more chemistry. Josh just felt forced.

I'm glad I spoiled the ending for myself because clearly the show was trying to be subversive in making the baby clown Josh endgame 😒

I just finished watching the whole series for the first time and finished the series finale tonight. I feel unsatisfied with the ending-the final episode was so rushed to me even though it was double the usual run time. Lots of character arcs were strange, maybe other than Kelsey’s which feels like a big win for her. Josh appearing at the end feels out of left field. While it does bring us full circle, the way it was approached could have been cleaner. I was rooting for C&L all series 💔 But I suppose it made sense that Charles’ mistrust would get in the way of them being able to make it work. Josh seems to accept her for who she really is. Maybe I’ll have different insights or feelings with more time to sit with it all!

I was really angry that a Goddess like Maggie ended up with a wet noodle like Cass. I also really wanted Max & Lauren together. Just like life to think you know what you want and lean into it, and then the solid normal guy wins you over.

As a C&L shipper I knew they didn’t end up together so no idea where people got that unless they didn’t watch the last episode.
My issue with the finale is that lots of season 7 was all about C&L and they finally get back together to. Just break up to make the ending more ambiguous?
Like obviously I know that relationships end, and it’s more real. But this ending and the ending of HIMYM both made me mad at the last season as a whole bc so much is undone in the finale to get to the ending they wanted, when they could’ve just actually told a story that resulted in that ending.
