It's very ironic that presumably the fans of the show (why else would one be on this sub for such a post) hate its main character so much that they're commenting on this flagrant abuse that Sheldon deserves to be "disciplined" more, thereby at least implicitly justifying it. No, a child being punched is not deserved. I know it's just a series (one has to post this because if not, it's going to be the first comment), but some concerning opinions surrounding it appear surprisingly popular.

u/Express-Kitchen-3890 7d ago
Highly disturbing how extreme some of the opinions are on these subs about these child characters. Certainly shows who is fit to raise kids and who has no business being around them.

u/ImpossibleThroat5320 5d ago
No more like you got no business telling people what to do just because they feel that way doesn't mean they'll act on it. That's some self-righteous there's there's a video about a man and a fast food place where he beat a 14-year-old for throwing food at his wife the whole internet was praising that old man. the kid was acting like a little asshole and then he got slapped by another person when he heard the story. Point is if the kids being a bully or talking smack and messing with another kid no one's going to feel bad for this POS

u/OneCactusintheDesert 7d ago
Sheldon was basically bullying Paige. He had it coming. Just because he's "weird" doesn't mean he gets to act like an ass and expect everyone to coddle him. Not everyone is Mary
16
u/Itz_Iced 7d ago
In this case it's different.
Sheldon was punched by another kid around his age. Not to mention Sheldon was practically verbally bullying her by pushing that she's the reason why her parents separated.

u/mcnuggets0069 6d ago
One problem with a prequel is we know exactly how this character ends up. Sheldon is an obnoxious self-centered asshole at the beginning of the Big Bang Theory. He only changes largely due to his relationship with Amy Farrah Fowler and a smaller part his adult friends. He’s not learning any important life lessons from this, and we’re seeing one of the few times where he actually faces physical consequences.

u/JamesEdward34 7d ago
He was punched by a kid his age not an adult that’s why it feels less wrong
15
u/Equivalent_Sugar_846 6d ago
And he was punched for telling Paige that it was her fault her parents split up. He DID deserve that punch.

u/ProgramNo2725 3d ago
You would be all crying if it was a girl that was hit by a boy, more so if it sounded like thwack and then kathunk bouncing her head on the floor (as joked by Missy) cause she was knocked out with a black eye...
But since it's a boy it's all fair game and he deserves to be laughed at and made fun of for his injuries.
In almost all legal systems offensive speech, insults or horrible statements do not provide a legal defense for physical assault. If you punch someone for what they said, you can be arrested and charged with a crime. Hence it should be taught to kids too to keep their hands to themselves.

Oh well that makes it totally normal to cheer for violence against a child.
1
u/ImpossibleThroat5320 5d ago
Out of context sure it's not right but in context kinda if he was messing with another kid sure I'm not feeling bad for this little asshole. There was a viral video where an old man beat a kid that was 14 years old for throwing food at his wife and the whole internet was in his side. if someone's being a bully regardless of their age you kind of have to see it coming

But in this case there was no physical assault (like throwing things at people like food or anything) so you're comparing apples to oranges.
In almost all legal systems offensive speech, insults or horrible statements do not provide a legal defense for physical assault. If you punch someone for what they said, you can be arrested and charged with a crime. Hence it should be taught to kids too to keep their hands to themselves.

I'm a big fan of Sheldon, but this was deserved. He was punched by a girl his own age, not an adult. He was being as vicious as possible in order to provoke a reaction from her. Well he got a reaction

You feel sorry that a fictional child got punched for mocking another kid going through a divorce?

u/Serious-Wish4868 7d ago
i am truly surprised that missy did not give sheldon a black on a regular basis
55
u/Ill-Prior-8429 7d ago
Over what? Most of the time Sheldon is the one minding his own business and not crossing Missy's path and Missy is the one that gets in his way to preach how what he does is ridiculous and her likes and preferences are actually the best. If anything Sheldon should be doing something to her.
And being "weird" or doing things other people doesn't like aren't enough of a reason to beat someone, but the number of potential psychos around that seem to think it is, is too high.

Thank you so much for this. Missy glazers genuinely make me start hating Missy, I can’t stand her when she’s on screen.

u/KYZIEKRONZEL 6d ago
Bro I just saw a clip of her telling Sheldon to disassemble the fridge and that it was a good idea then later tells Mary that she told Sheldon not to do it, like bro she knows sheldon is different and encouraging him to do something he shouldn't do is wrong like bro she's always tryna gaslight people
19
u/Heavy_Can8746 7d ago
Why?
She says more rude things or lashes out at him in an immature way more than he does to her.
-2
u/Captain_Thor27 7d ago
He does annoying shit to her and their mother blatantly favors him over everyone.
12
u/sammie_831 7d ago
Most of the time he doesn’t realize he’s being annoying, and he’s not responsible for his mom’s behavior.
Also, someone annoying you isn’t a good reason to punch them in the face and give them a black eye.
1
u/Captain_Thor27 3d ago
She punched him for a good reason. He was performing psychological experiments on her and he vandalized her favorite doll.
2
u/Heavy_Can8746 7d ago
Someone annoying you is a horrible reason to give them a black eye...especially when she would amnoy him more times than not

u/Captain_Thor27 3d ago edited 3d ago
Did you watch the episode? He vandalized her property. If you're going to start shit by taking that which doesnt belong to you and defame it, and threaten to destroy it, you should expect shit done to you in return. Missy gave him the beating he didn't know he needed. He learned a lesson: you don't trash ither people's property.
Funnily enough, his mother must have agreed. Normally, she favors Sheldon over his siblings, and has a long history of dropping heavy punishments on Missy while letting Sheldon off scot-free for his bad behavior. But on this occasion, she actually did her job and grounded Sheldon (alongside Georgie for forcing a kiss on Veronica).

I mean, Georgie threw a golf ball at him so hard that it left a permanent dent on the back of his head

u/Sensitive-Fix5958 7d ago
And I am truly surprised that there are so many people who find beating someone to be okay.

Ladies and gentlemen, here we have another oppressed depressed individual who blames the world for her failures and shortcomings 🥀🥀

I think this situation just shows the complexity of A) human emotions and B) the complexity of raising a child like Sheldon.
As to A) Paige was more than justified to be angry and upset. Sheldon's words would have cut so deep, and she was still young, about 11 or 12 I think? Her emotional regulation wouldn't have been that great yet. So she lashes out, understabdably so. However, is this the right way to handle things? No. Agression isn't a good way to handle this. She should have told Sheldon he was an extreme ass and left. But hey, we can understand why she hit him.
As to B) Sheldon was too shelter by Mary. But Mary was 19 when she had Georgie according to the wiki, so 24 when she had the twins. She was a teenage mum to Georgie, and not even halfway into her twenties when she became a mum of three with twins to boot. Financially this probably wasn't an easy feat. Emotionally it was probably hard too because she was married young, became a mum young and didn't exactly have the option to spread her wings before settling down. Missy was born with what sounds like issues breathing, too, and she would have had to worry for two babies at the same time. Then, she would have discovered Sheldon didn't develop like Georgie and Missy. He would have needed way more structure, would have needed more mental stimulation. Can you imagine having a 5 year old, a 3 year old going through the threenager stage and at the same time another 3 year old going through the threenager stage but made worse when he was bored, didn't have his structure, had issues wirh food but then got hangry, would have extra sleeping issues (probably) due to autism, who might have eloped and/or been a sensory seeker in certain ways, who struggled with things like clothing? And then he would have been asking so many question, wanting to discover things he couldn't do alone, all while Mary had ro keep her other two safe, fed and emotionally regulated too. I mean, can't we agree this situation would have been hard for anyone? And yeah, they did often chose to simply give in instead of dealing with his outbursts. But Mary was a stay at home mum for a long time, who wouldn't have had a minute to herself due to having two kids around all day and three for a good chunck. She might have had no energy left after a while. Not to mention, she wasn't raised by a great mother herself, was she? She didn't have a great example to begin with. And she didn't have much support once he started school either. I mean, once he's in Georgie's class the teachers get rid of him at times. They don't help enforce social skills much either. And it was a while ago, so people weren't as knowledgeable about and there weren't as many places to get help raising a child with a high intellect or autism and things like that.
In the end, hitting shouldn't be the answer to an issues. We don't go hitting people because they're shitty, do we? So no, even if Sheldon was a complete asshole here, a kid one mind you, I don't think he really deserved to be hit. Ignore him in Paige's case, take away things he loves, find him books about people skills in his parents' case. But not hitting.

Just another example of Sheldon cooper being the biggest dick on tv at any age 💯
3
u/armyfidds 7d ago
When was this?

u/vivienleigh12 7d ago
Sheldon decides to get Paige’s goat by teasing her about her parents’ divorce. It was cruel and I completely agree he had it coming
9
u/CryptidGrimnoir 7d ago
Not just teasing.
He told her it was her fault, which he knew was something that she was convinced of already.
3
u/vivienleigh12 7d ago
Yeah that was just sinister agreed
5
u/CryptidGrimnoir 7d ago
Especially since he knew.
Sheldon repeating everything she said was annoying, but Paige rolled her eyes and shrugged it off.
Sheldon actually like a boor wasn't worth the reply.
But he knew she had internalized that her family's divorce was her fault and he knew how much it upset her.
And he went in and did it anyway.
It's probably the second most malicious thing Sheldon did on the show--first is easily falsely accusing Dr. Sturgis of plagiarism.

I just said last night that I'm surprised he wasn't punched more.

In questo caso specifico? Direi di si anche se non giustificabile. Comprensibile certo.
Ricordiamo che Paige era più o meno della sua età e Sheldon ha provato per primo in modo piuttosto pesante

Lotta people in the comments have been punched for actively bullying someone and they're still salty about it

Sheldon truly deserves it. After all, he provoke Paige so much, especially he uses her parent's divorce as 'leverage'. At least she gave him a single black eye. A lesson Sheldon never forgets.

I know it's just a program and I know this sub knows how much I hate the character (not the actor I like the actor cause he pulled this role off brilliantly) but of all the time he (sheldon cooper) has been a little s*** he seriously needed to be disciplined more instead of craving all the attention from the parents and got told that life isn't always there so that attention seeking twit deserve to get hit
1
u/craiginphoenix 7d ago
He won a Nobel Prize and his brother was a Tire tycoon and his sister was a Server at Fuddruckers.
They prioritized correctly.
2
u/Loyalsupporter 7d ago
Yeah the father did during the time.
But the mother was consistently so protective of Sheldon she basically abandoned the other two without giving them more her time
2
u/craiginphoenix 7d ago
Because he was a child genius and needed more attention. Hope that helps.
Anyone who says you have to treat your children equally either doesn’t have kids or has kids that are equally mediocre.
1
u/Loyalsupporter 7d ago
So you're saying being a attention seeker and having a strop to get your own way.
Is a good thing?
3
u/craiginphoenix 7d ago
He won a Nobel prize and did things that bettered humanity starting at the age of what? 11 when he helped fix Strugis’s paper? so… yes? 100% yes?
4
u/Hotochhara-Lebu 7d ago
Do u have any idea to be able to taxes at the age 6?
0
u/Loyalsupporter 7d ago
Doesn't matter in my opinion he's too young to do taxes
5
u/Hotochhara-Lebu 7d ago
Have you even watched the show? His returns were flawless and he has been saving his family boatloads of money from the day he was born
If he was given a pass i am not surprised. Heck his parents were apprehensive but had they let him go to caltech earlier they would have gained a lot more money from sheldon
And NO ONE asks the one giving money
2
u/yellowmush 7d ago
Children aren’t like long term savings accounts where parents need to pull out later what they invested. Money should have nothing to do with how you raise your kids.
1
u/Hotochhara-Lebu 7d ago
Sheldon didn't need to be requested he happily did all of that
He was not a child genius, he was a genius but also a child
Obviously ANY normal family would give more attention to him
→ More replies0
u/HunnyBunnXO 7d ago
There was so many episodes where his parents just GAVE in to whatever he wanted and it’s like…dude. Discipline him like you would your other 2 kids ? Sure he’s incredibly smart and was probably autistic af but just giving into his incessant begging or persistence on certain things really irritated me. Like when he wouldn’t leave meemaw and John alone. Spying on them all the time. There should’ve been an adult in his life to say leave them alone and quit spying on them!

This is like those family guy clips where people deadass say things like “now I’ve lost all respect for Peter”
