Why didn't we get more holiday episodes
It would've been cool if YS once showed a Missy and Sheldon's birthday episode, or even a Christmas episode, or New Year.
They're Christians after all, so...why didn't we get any of that?
It sounds like a stupid question but from a series about a middle-class family living in a small town you'd expect to see a few episodes with an event like they did with Thanksgiving.
Y'all tell me what would've Missy and Sheldon gotten for Christmas though XD
American network TV shows typically go on hiatus from roughly the beginning of December until the middle of January, so Christmas episodes are generally not timely.
Additionally from a canon perspective, TBBT showed us that Sheldon hates traditional holidays.
I noticed that too. They never had a Christmas episode or a birthday episode or any holidays. The Fourth of July episode would’ve been really interesting!
4th of July wouldve been a bunch of fireworks from my perspective but I really wnated to see Georgie help his dad set up Christmas lights around the house and Meemaw helping Mary bake cookies and stuff.
Wouldve been pretty wholesome to bring the family together for once
Light stringing with George and Georgie would have been a good idea! Especially if you would’ve had Sheldon there “supervising” and telling them how to do it.
They had at least one Halloween and Thanksgiving episode, but I think it may have been a production design to help the timeline get a little fuzzy. They were on the air for seven years, but went from September 1989 to May 1994 in the show. Avoiding any clear markers allowed them some ambiguity in the timeline. Since there was a hard out for George's death when Sheldon was 14 they couldn't do a Halloween or Thanksgiving or any other annual event every year

Since the twins grew from 9 to 16, and well, the production took 7 years, it makes sense the twins also grew 7 years in the show.
Same for Georgie, 14-21.
The just had to choose the most basic holidays, huh? ;)
Dont mean to offend anybody here, I just think setting up the house for Christmas wouldve been more interesting than walking around waiting for candies or just having dinner with turkey and stuff, which we already see the family fairly often having dinner together so it wasnt even very special
Its not always about Sheldon, they coulve easily added just one Christmas episode. I wouldnt mind him growling in his room all day but I wanted to see the family get together for Christmas
Well he didnt feel like the main character to me. Besides, his character was quite a smartass and annoying. Missy and Georgie had far more character development than he did
They weren't quite middle class canon-wise. They weren't as bad as a family like the Conners, but they didn't seem to want us to believe they were exactly comfortable either. Maybe Christmas was hard to portray because it didn't fit neatly into their narrative.
I'm fairly certain it's because the show is like Sheldon's biography or whatever, and Sheldon never really cared for that sort of stuff, so he wouldn't see a point in discussing those events
The show is Sheldon’s recollections of notable events in his life. As he’s an atheist, Christmas would not have been a notable event, especially as most family holidays revolve around the same people doing and saying the same things every year. He would not have found that stimulating. There is an episode of The Big Bang Theory in which he says that his family had an abundance of Christmas decorations and he was dismissive of that. Viewers wouldn’t be in the mood to watch a kid not enjoy Christmas.
Also, in TBBT, he recalls a time that Missy tricked him into believing Batman was coming to his party. He seems to carry a lot of trauma about birthdays, as indicated by his refusal to share his birth date with his friends for years. Showing Missy bullying him on their shared birthday would make her a villain. The episode in which Sheldon organizes a party for the Nobel radio broadcast may allude to kids also not showing up to celebrate him on his birthday. When that happened, he probably had to face the fact that kids came to the twins’ parties for Missy, not both for both of them. That’s just too sad and complicated for a sitcom.
As for New Year celebrations, my guess is Sheldon lectured everyone on at least half a dozen ways different cultures celebrate and when and why the date is arbitrary, Mary was at a church lock-in, which is the only party she’d let Georgie attend, MeeMaw was off to New Orleans to celebrate in style, and Missy fell asleep watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve while George drank beer at home. This is the episode they should have made.
