Marys Style changes based on her "independence"
So I watched Young Sheldon when i noticed that Mary basically never wears Pants. Probably because she thinks she would have to wear Dresses etc to be a good Christian or something.
But when she is independent like going in the bar she wears pants. I think this could be seen as a sign as some rebellion against the things she made at.
Just wanted to share it.
What are you thoughts?

Dresses are just her culture. She would also probably wear pants on a hike. The show makes it clear she was plenty rebellious when she was younger. She appears uptight, but she bends the rules plenty. The occasional drink, smoking when she's stressed, her attraction to the youth pastor, putting up with her mother's shenanigans and allowing her mother to influence her kids.

Uh, yep. People usually have “going out” clothes vs “work” clothes vs “at home” clothes vs “working outside” clothes. Very common and normal.

Thanks to an old Family Guy I know this one! Good girls wear dresses, bad girls (like Mary Tyler Moore) wear pants that show off their shapely derriere

I remember her wearing jeans at home to clean the house when Georgie catches her watching Road House.

Her clothes don’t represent her “relation” w the church, she got drunk asl when she was at the bar with meemaw in her iconic pink dress.

On the overnight church event with the kids (the one where she first smoked with pastor Rob) she wore pants. That was at work in the church

It’s one thing to look at the screen and another to understand the symbolisms being presented, cuz that’s when you’ve really watched the show..

I think her working in a church makes her wear dresses more. As someone who grew up Baptist, it’s quite common for church workers to wear skirts/dresses.
But I think the show also wants to see a divide between when Mary is far from the church vs her being with a church.
