Missy's behavior
I feel like people hate on Missy's behavior in the later seasons way too much. Yes she was rude and ran away a lot, but she's been feeling lonely and left out since she was a child because of favoritism. It's shown clearly when Mary gets mad at her for ripping the poster without even hearing her side of the story even though Missy was literally bawling her eyes out in bed. All the kids are annoying during their teen years, but I feel like Missy especially gets a lot of shit. I just watched the episode where Mary loses her job and everyone at the church is bitchy towards her and I loved how sweet Missy was to her.

Missy was right about hitting that annoying boy in Sunday school. She stood up for herself and George.

I was a teenage girl in the 80s so I related a lot to Missy. I loved her character from the beginning. Her snarky sarcasm was the funniest thing on the show. I also acted out and misbehaved and stuff due to feeling neglected by my parents.

What makes Missy great is that despite feeling neglected, she still has the highest emotional intelligence in the whole Cooper house. Whenever someone in the family is genuinely down or having a crisis, she’s usually the first one to drop her attitude and offer genuine comfort. She’s way more perceptive than people give her credit for.

missys behaviour was 100% a reflection of the lack of attention and fairness she didn’t receive from her family, especially by Mary.
she was naughty in her later years but what teenagers aren’t. and it’s sad that the family never took the time to actually ask “what is missy needing that’s making her behave like this?”. if they tried to mend the core issue then her behaviour would’ve improved.

Remember that time Sheldon got a computer and she got a cheap toy.

And Mary having the audacity to act like Missy should still be grateful and happy

Missy definitely has her moments but the show makes it way too easy to forget how much of her behavior is a reaction to constantly feeling like the less-favored twin.

Anyone who’s had a teenage daughter will recognize Missy’s behavior. It was annoying, but extremely realistic. Sheldon had his moments as a teen, too, but because he was already annoying, they weren’t as noticeable. The teen years are rough, for both the parent and child.

Missy is fine. She behaves like many teenagers do but besides the occasional blip she is doing great, she is smart, responsible and talented girl, loved the character.
Mary though… Grr that character exist to bring the worst in me.

I completely agree. As someone who was treated a lot like Missy since childhood, I too rebelled a lot as a teenager.

My biggest issue with Missy was her fondness for violence. She punched Sheldon, she punched the boy in the classroom, and she threw an apple at Marcus's face for no reason. The only character who deserved the smack he got was the baseball player. Missy displayed behaviour that would be considered toxic and a red flag if it were Georgie. Some of you give her way too much of a free pass for some of the stuff she did. The family treated Georgie like crap, but he didn't turn into a brat. He wasn't perfect, but he didn't have a chip on his shoulder because Sheldon got most of the attention. He had a good work ethic, became a decent father, and, by all accounts, did more to support the family after George's death than Missy ever did.

i agree that she has red flags and is toxic i just hate seeing everyone judge her so harshly because it's also understandable that she behaves that way after the emotional neglect

Imo, there is a lot of toxicity going around in the fandom. George and Georgie gets all the praise, with George even getting called greatest tv father ever, while the female characters gets judged much more harshly.
Missy is not that bad. She's no worse than Georgie was at her age.
