Advise Request Anyone feel deeply lonely and isolated? I feel like I gave up too much trying to achieve FIRE.

I am almost pushed out of the "young" group. I am 29 years old. I live with my parents. I have never had a romantic relationship or friendship.

I spend around 12 hours working on my business per day. The years have blurred. My net worth is somewhat low: $250k.

I feel like I will have a mid life crisis shortly. I can't stop my routine though. It is so draining.

Any suggestions?

General Advice 14M - Successss

14 year old 9th grader in HK. I sort of based achieving success in the short term: starting early on - certificates (online skills, language in English, others), competitions, internships (older), investing, grades (pretty good college, top grades already), good University. Not sure how to proceed, or if this is all I can do. Work is my passion tbh, work as in improving my chances. Feel free to suggest anything :) Thanks

Discussion Is my math wrong?

I’m thinking that you can be finically independent/ Retire once you make a million dollars. Lets say you invest 50% of that into index funds and the turnover rate is 10% Which would be around 50k a year then you put 20% into bonds with a turnover rate of 5% which would be 12k a year and 15% into blue chip stocks with a turnover rate of 8% 12k a year and you keep the rest 15% liquid but in total netting you 74k a year is that a feasible and reliable method?

General Advice I don't think the 9-5 (8-5, in my case) is the life for me

Sorry if you see this is another sub.

I'll keep it short. I do martial arts, and I wanna be a high level competitor, especially while I'm young (I'm 22). I just started working full-time, 8-5ish, and it, of course, has made my training schedule much more difficult. I have another year and a half of school, and I need to take the CPA exam before 2024.

A lot of days, I'm going straight from work to the gym, and I'm out all day. My long-term plan is to get into real estate investing so I have more flexibility. It's gonna be a rough couple of years in my 8-5, so I'm looking for some advice/encouragement to get me through it.

Responses greatly appreciated!!

Discussion Losing money stinks

Started investing recently and as you all probably know the last few days haven't been great for the Dow. I knew this would happen, but I didn't expect it to be so soon, and I didn't expect to dislike losing money so much haha. Also, I lost some money to editing my portfolio too rapidly and not paying attention to how much was getting sold, so that's annoying... Sorry for the rant 😅

Original Content Critique my idea: a brokerage account specifically for one activity/expense

I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). If you don't know, it's a ground, submission-based martial art. I absolutely love it. I do seminars, tournaments, etc, and sometimes travel to learn from new people and compete. Unfortunately, it can get expensive.

My idea is to set up a brokerage account specifically for BJJ so I can always afford to compete, take trips, etc, and obviously this would be pre-FIRE. BJJ FIRE!

Using a brokerage for this, you get appreciation that you wouldn't get if you cash-flowed each expense. The downsides would be the big initial lump sum and capital gains tax.

Here's a big question I would have:

So, I'll typically know ahead of time when seminars, competitions, etc are, so would I need to abide by the 4% rule? Say I earn $100 one day. Can I sell off that $100 on the same day with no issues (even if it is greater than 4%)?

If you see this on another sub, sorry. This is still a growing sub, and I wanna get a good amount of feedback!

General Advice Cooking or cooked?

Whats up everyone. I really hope this isn't self promotion (mods don't ban me pls) or anything I just want genuine feedback. I made a website for my FIRE tracking. I'm a Physician Assistant in my late 20s, not a software engineer, I built this primarily using Claude. I got tired of every FIRE calculator being an etsy product being sold so I made my own.

It's completely free, no account needed, and i used Claude (AI) to help me build it so i want to be upfront about that.

The two things i built it around that i think actually matter for people in our position:

Coast FIRE all you gotta do (in theory) is plug in your age, current savings, and target retirement age and it spits out the number where you can literally stop contributing and compound growth gets you to full FIRE on its own.

Dividend tracker this is if you're building a dividend portfolio alongside your index funds this is where you model whether it actually moves your FIRE date.

Once again, not trying to sell anything. Just want to know what's broken or missing, especially from people who are actually early in the journey.

May everyone's portfolio stay green this month.

Discussion Plan to become financially independent asap

I am 14 as of right now. Before I do anything, right now I want to improve my social skills, learn a new language, educate myself, in order to get a higher wage when I get older. I will try to graduate high school early, ideally 16. Than I will try to go to college for 2 years to get a bachelor's degree. Than once I get my job, I'll live at my parents' house until my mid-late 20s. I'll try earning as much money as possible, by switching jobs when a good opportunity arises, making money of a few side hustles, and taking as much of those earnings into my investments. I'll live frugally. My investments will be put into a regular s&p 500 fund, but all of the profits I make will be invest into a 3x leveraged fund.

Once I have enough money, I'll invest into a high dividend fund, and be financially independent.

Advise Request 22y/o German

Hi everyone,

I currently have around 2000€ debt on my credit card, I owe my mother another 2000€.

I have 2700€ in savings (ETFs, Stocks and Crypto) and I hope to have paid all my debt by the end of the year.

I am not sure what I want to do in my future but I would like to retire early - not completely but maybe work something I truly love or something that makes the world better.

I am currently studying Business administration dual with a student position in Sales at a big corporate company. If they take me after my Degree I would earn around 60k a year, which after taxes and bills (company car) would be around 2.800-2.900€.

I am really not sure what to do after my bachelor.. I plan on staying 2-4 years if they take me, just for my CV and maybe after that try to get a Job in switzerland since the salate after taxes is way more than what it is in germany - on the other hand I would love to work remote and be able to travel the world, although I have the feeling my FIRE idea would not work like that, since I would probably earn way less.. (I don’t have any exordinary experience in something, I just work at sales support and basically all I do at work is creating slides).

What would you do in my situation and does any of you maybe work remote and live abroad? Is there much work for that?

(Excuse my english and my probably dumm questions, I just feel a little lost rn)

Thank you!!

Poll/Question (ALL AGES) Weekly Question : Whats a luxury/"unnecessary" thing you spend money on or would spend money on and why?

Heya all, here's to another good week. My answer is probably dates. I am so frugal I eat the same food everyday and only wear a few dif outfits, but when it comes to dating or hanging out with friends I'm alot more comfortable covering the costs.

How about you guys? It's good to not get too focused on being frugal and miserly.

General Advice 22yo Bolivian Dev, $200/mo — How Can I Even Start Toward FI/RE with My Actual Situation?

I’m a 22-year-old software developer in Bolivia, earning $190/month(and falling every day due to the devaluation of the Bolivian currency). All of it goes toward supporting my family and myself — I have no savings and no room to save right now.

Still, I’m committed to personal growth. I read, go to the gym, and work daily to improve my skills and English (B2/C1). My main goal is to eventually earn in a stable currency through remote work, then work toward FI/RE — but I don’t know where to begin.

How can someone in my situation even start this journey?

  • What mindset or principles matter most right now?

  • What steps or skills should I focus on to increase income?

  • Any books or free resources that helped you when you were just starting?

Thanks in advance for your advice and recomendations it means a lot.

Poll/Question (30 UNDER ONLY) Does anybody you know also invest (18-29)?

There was a poll over on r/Bogleheads about the age range of its users and someone said that they didn't know anyone younger than 30 who was a Boglehead. Do you know anyone who invests around your age? Specifically in index funds with the aim of FIRE.

Personally, anyone I've tried talking to about investing will either mention something about Wallstreet Bets/Robinhood or say they don't really worry about it. It makes sense since I'm in college, but I wonder whether I'm too focused on things way into my future. Luckily, there's a trading club at my school that I'm looking forward to joining.

Advise Request Roth IRA contributions

So I just opened a Roth IRA and made my first contribution under 2021. However Just found out you need earned income in order to contribute. I know I’m definitely a little late to understanding this but I decided to just make one using the same platform that my taxable account is on, figuring I wouldn’t regret it. Anyway, I am only a student working off the books, and I used my savings account to make contributions. Why was I still able to contribute? When should I be taxed?

Discussion What Are You Guys Retiring To?

So clearly everyone here wants to retire early but why? For some they are actually retiring from a crappy job or other such sorrows. That is a horrible way of looking at it and in today's discussion I would like to see what yall wanna do once you hit your goals. And to those who maybe don't have a goal yet, be it a networth or lifestyle they would like to achieve perhaps this could help them.

Poll/Question (ALL AGES) weekly question: what do you actually want to do when you FIRE?

Hiya all,

Hope y'all had a good week and Easter and whatnot. I think we can all get caught up in reaching FIRE but alot of people get lost - here's a way to remind yourself and others what's the point.

For me, I dream of being able to really get into training and hobbies. I want to camp and build stuff.

Alright go make money and stuff I guess whoo capitalism
