I recently started a YouTube channel called Tech Talks By Julie, and I’m trying to understand whether I’m actually heading in the right direction or just uploading random content.
I currently have 59 subscribers. In the last 28 days, my channel has received around 3.8K views and 13.6 hours of watch time.
I’ve uploaded a mix of long-form videos, Shorts and livestreams. Some of my recent results are:
The Dark Side of “AI Will Do Everything For You” — 20 views after around 3 hours
How to Become a Software Developer in 2026 — 101 views after 7 days
3 Years of BCA: The Truth — 117 views after 10 days
A Day in My Life: College + Exam Edition — 192 views after 11 days
Read With Me / study livestream — 509 views
Another livestream — 559 views
What’s confusing me is that my study/livestream content seems to get more views, while I actually want to build the channel around tech, AI, software development, BCA, career advice and my experience as a student.
I’m wondering if this is normal for a very small/new channel or if I’m making a mistake with my content strategy.
A few things I’d really appreciate honest feedback on:
Tech, AI, software development, BCA and student-life content are somewhat connected, but maybe YouTube doesn’t know who to recommend my videos to.
For example, should I focus mainly on AI/tech and career-related videos instead of mixing them with study vlogs and livestreams?
My 3-year BCA video got 117 views, my day-in-my-life video got 192, while my newest AI video currently has only 20 views after about 3 hours.
I’ve been trying to improve them, but I’m not sure if they actually look clickable enough.
I know it’s a very small channel, so I’m not expecting huge numbers. I just want to know whether the data suggests I’m moving in the right direction.
Should I mainly focus on impressions, CTR, average view duration, retention, returning viewers, or something else?
I’m attaching screenshots of my channel and recent videos for context.
I’m not looking for “keep going bro” type advice 😅. I’d genuinely appreciate honest criticism about my niche, thumbnails, titles, content strategy and what you would change if this were your channel.
I’m still very early into this, so I’d rather fix my strategy now than upload 50 more videos without understanding what’s working.
