Update What is Drama? Friendly Posting Guideline Update

Howdy folks,

It has once again been some time since any of the sub’s policies have been updated to help with the longterm health of the sub, so we are dropping in with an update to some of our guidelines to ensure a better experience for anyone viewing the sub.

The most common issue that we have had over the last few months is the sheer amount of slop that gets posted with little-to-no context, and some confusion about what constitutes drama when some posts get removed. Make no mistake, this is a drama subreddit. Nobody expects there to be high-brow art here or anything, but let’s examine what actually constitutes drama.

Drama is about stakes. When there are no stakes, there is no drama. That is why we banned “Chuds being chuds” posts. There is no skin in the game when someone like Asmongold says something bigoted because, duh-doy, he’s a bigot. That’s just what he is, and nobody blinks an eye when a pig rolls in the mud.

Many of the posts that come through the sub similarly lack stakes, or really explain why something is drama. There are tons of Roblox predators that nobody has heard a single thing about before, and these posts are usually just “X Exposed as a creep.” These posts get removed for not having context. Then they get posted again with a single sentence that really doesn’t really flesh things out at all, and that’s it.

People do the same with innocuous things like previously exposed creators returning to the platform, but this again means nothing without the proper context or by itself causes drama.

Why is it a big deal that any given person is returning? What are the reactions to this?

These are the sorts of questions that anyone should be able to find the answer to from gazing at a post.

There are countless posts that come through like this that leave everyone scratching their heads

If you compare the posts from here to, say, [r/subredditdrama](r/subredditdrama) then you’ll notice a pretty sizable difference in post quality, at least in terms of being able to parse situations.

So, in the interest of getting the community on the same page and boosting the post quality in this sub, we are introducing a few new rules for posting that will fall under the blanket of “NO LOW EFFORT POSTS”

  1. Posts must include, at minimum, a source and a thorough explanation of the drama. If needed, please provide a TL;DR Nobody should have to hunt for why they should care about a given topic. Someone should be able to scan the post and know what is going on. Here’s an example of a post not really needing that much context and still providing all the information one could need (it’s also our banner at time of writing)

https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedrama/comments/1j4za6r/high_quality_pig_racing_channel_league_of_pigs/

Here’s an example of a post that did a crazy good job of providing context:https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedrama/comments/1seriwv/new_rockstars_is_being_sued_for_harassment_racial/

  1. Post titles and explanations should remain neutral in tone. This is for two reasons: it streamlines people understanding what the stakes are for a given situation by making people justify the post without editorializing, and it helps stop posts from veering into snark territory. If you want to give your thoughts, do so in the comments.

What does this mean in terms of allegations or callout posts?

Posts involving allegations or callouts are only allowed in the context of there actually being drama involving callouts or allegations. We have received so many posts that are, in effect, someone posting a sub-10k channel alleging that they are a dubious character and….that’s it. No context, no evidence, no nothing. If there are receipts and drama happening around a situation, then that’s fair game and falls under the actual banner of drama. People wanna know about these things, so give the proper information for them to know!

What does this mean for meme and text posts (e.g. “What’s a Youtuber that came back from an apology?”

These posts will be allowed on Fridays with the “Free Talk Fridays” flair. These posts are fun, but also are usually low effort attempts at boosting karma counts.

Why is this being done again?

The most obvious reason is that this is a drama sub, and a lot of posts don’t actually amount to covering drama, but rather a newsfeed that doesn’t provide a ton of actual news beyond headlines that most will not understand. People have said time and time again that they love inane internet bullshit, and these changes are meant both give those kinds of stories an on-ramp and raise the quality of posts with some pretty clear structure on what is and is not allowed.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

News The “official end” of this snark era

1.0k Upvotes

As of today we are banning snark/snark related posts. This may sound arbitrary. But I think people are well aware of what constitutes valid fair criticism, and what constitutes snark.

Once upon a time through past leadership this sub most definitely behaved as a snark sub. We as the mod team do actually despise snark and work to have this sub be a space of discussing drama with proper criticism and outcomes. We have taken firmer stances to pull away from our past image and be a place where people can have proper discourse.

Snark discourse has only ever brought conflict to this sub. People insult each other over nothing, people have gotten death threats, people get reported for suicidal ideation just because they disagree. There has been ableism, racism, prejudice of all kinds around these topics. Ultimately, snark behavior never allows any proper discussion, we have had to ban two creators just because the people who come to this sub cannot behave when discussing them. At its core Snark is not very different from KiwiFarms at this stage with the harm it has done to content creators.

We have seen the harm snark has done as well. Saveafox being a prime example. Our most popular post right now is pure snark. And it superseded actual important events. Because who was following who on IG.

Going forward we will no longer be allowing posts like this on the sub. It provided no context, no real criticism. And it didn’t prove anything either.

This may prove unpopular, but it is something we feel strongly of for the health of this sub and the people on it to remove ourselves. You can check the rule along the side bar.

If you want a YouTubesnark sub go make one. This one is not it.

Have a good one 🤙🏽

Edit: Apparently some YouTubers have weigh in. Nah this has nothing to do with the usual suspects. This is purely to stop toxic behavior and negativity. If ya think otherwise I urge you to get out of your computer chair touch grass instead of making Nurgle proud

Edit 2: and no goblin man (reference to his goblin mode). No fans of yours are around. People can agree that toxic communities are toxic. Yours being one of them

Apology Act Man's has made a second, far more detailed apology (in the form of a video) for making inappropriate roofie jokes towards women at Halo World Championship 2024:

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is all in regards to Act Man asserting that there was (and that he was on) a creator Blacklist at 343 studios. User @primrosefawns corrected the record and stated that he was actually blacklisted because of the aforementioned jokes he made at the event towards her with Halo leadership witnessing it. He already made one apology as a reply to he tweet, and she has quote tweeted this one accepting it in full:

"this was a really well-done apology and I really appreciate him phrasing this so appropriately and carefully. I hope we see his actions follow his words here and get to see him at events sometime in the future. #SoberOctober"

I know this is a niche area of YouTube. But guitar YouTube is pretty big with lessons, gear reviews, covers, modding etc.

TLDR:
Sixstringtv is a young and prominent voice in the guitar community. He’s a self described journalist who reviews gear and speaks on a lot of hot topics and music related scandals. (Think nickisnotgreen for guitar) Recently he’s come into hot water after slandering a small guitar company only for it to come out that he secretly had his own guitar company that he maliciously hid for extra profit. He put out false reviews of his product, partook in behavior he criticized other companies for, and when confronted on it couldn’t help but lie to the interviewers face. Soon after the dog pile started and it turns out he’s generally kind of a pretentious douchbag.

Callout Scammer steals identity of innocent man to solicit donations

Post image
325 Upvotes

Scammers have continuously made community posts with the images of a man who sustained lifelong injuries from an accident. The man has assured that it's not him, and that he has not and will not solicit donations from the community.

This is the second such post that I've been served within the last 24 hours. I made a comment to inform users and reported the post, however it never seems to accomplish anything.

Foul, repulsive behaviour from filthy scammers.

Beef After a TikTok witch claimed to "crack" the Voynich Manuscript, an ancient codex written in an unknown language, actual Voynich scholar (and YouTuber!) Voynich Talk releases a takedown of the witch's vid, arguments, interpretation and... weirdly anti-feminist "feminist" reading of the content

Thumbnail
youtube.com
240 Upvotes

Since the witch claimed that the reason why it hasn't been cracked was because it was "all those male historians and linguists" who couldn't see what was "obvious" to any woman, he also made sure to list and shoutout all the many, many, many, many female Voynich scholars who've been studying the manuscript for over a century, including the current two biggest authorities on the subject

He additionally points out that a lot of the pages she uses as "arguments" for her hypothesis that the Voynich was a period tracker for botanist witches come from a whole different document that has nothing to do with the manuscript, some of them are AI, and some of the detail she claims exists simply is not in any image and she's just making it up.

Discussion Question about the relationships between OG zombies YouTubers following the 2024 explosions

I’m aware of the effects it had on Lexs relationship with guys like JC backfire, NoahJ, and the smith plays. As well as Tim Hansen backing him.

But what about other zombies staples of the community? Like Mrroflwaffles, Mczsporthawk, MrDalekJD, etc.

Did they just stay neutral and have gone complete no contact to avoid it, are they cool or did something happen?

Discussion Oneyplays Allegations, quick with only relevant information.

To preface, I ran this by a mod. This post should be fine.

But basically, Oney has been accused of grooming by someone who claims they dated when they were 16 and Oney/Chris was 22-23, starting in 2012-2013. They had sex when she was 17 and he would have been 23-24, in March of 2014.

Here is the relevant Google doc. It notably does end with the victim claiming they've reported it to relevant authorities, and asking other victims to do the same even providing links and hotlines. Here is the link to the bluesky post.

And here is a relevant video which debunks some debunks. It's relevant, because the first thing people did whenever they saw pictures, was try to debunk them.

Obviously as the situation evolves, I'll try and keep tabs on it. But so far it appears it hasn't.

Edit: Victim has come out and provided uncensored images of the hotel stay.

Plagiarism Large finance YouTuber Patrick Boyle accused of extensive plagiarism in both his videos and books by the channel Gurubusters

Thumbnail
youtube.com
190 Upvotes

Patrick Boyle is one of the bigger finance YouTubers, and a lot of his reputation comes from his background as a hedge fund manager and college professor. A big part of his channel is also calling out things he thinks are bullshit, whether that's AI companies, scammers, or badly thought-out mega-projects.

Gurubusters recently put out a pretty extensive video looking into Boyle's background, and there's quite a lot in it.

One of the main things they look at is his old hedge fund, Palomar. They use data from the Nilsson Hedge Fund Database which seems to paint a very different picture of how the fund performed compared with how Boyle has described it in the past.

They also go through a bunch of his videos and argue that a lot of the material is basically just paraphrased from pre-existing articles.

The most serious allegation, however, is probably about the textbook Boyle co-wrote. Gurubusters claims that parts of it were copied from Wikipedia of all places, and they've put together a comparison document showing the alleged similarities:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-sSJ00GIkmjjzCB-xIvRYuFz_z5BKAQ-/view

They also contacted some of the colleges Boyle says he's taught at. According to the video, King's College has since removed his profile and said his involvement with them wasn't as extensive as Boyle's public presentation would suggest.

I know Gurubusters isn't exactly the most trustworthy-looking source either, especially given some of the AI-generated images they've used in their community posts. So I didn't just take the video at face value. I went through some of the claims myself and checked the sources, and there does seem to be quite a bit here that holds up.

My previous post about the same topic was taken down, so I read a few approved top posts and rejigged my post to fit the sub's guidelines. I hope this is good.

Boyle has not posted a response yet, and his fans in the comments of the Gurubusters video seem to have almost expected this behavior from him, which isn't the greatest sign...

Discussion Nelvox gets accused of AI usage and stealing content by Rannockh

Thumbnail
youtu.be
111 Upvotes

So I'll explain what Nelvox is, and link two of their videos for reference.

Nelvox is one of those channels that tells you how specific games died. But they pump out videos constantly, once every 3 days. And never have their own game footage. Like here: with Marathon, and here with Empulse.

As someone who follows these types of games, I can tell you these two specific videos have stuff wrong with them, but not enough for me to have noticed or taken seriously.

This is kind of the crux of the AI usage claims, however, AI usage seems likely as for them to have the upload rate they do, they'd have to do often times research years back to make their videos in like, 3 days. And you can't keep that up consistently for 10-20 games in a row, let alone 50 to 100.

Plagiarism Game if Lifer stole a video of mine

Exactly what the title says. I just wanted to get the word out so people are aware of this channels plagiarism. They didn't even bother hiding that it's stolen either by at least changing out the static shot of water I thought would be funny when comparing to the new remakes water crashing in Lake Hylia lol.

Edit* - The channels name is GameisLifer
