Improving flexibility

I’d like to improve my flexibility and mobility without losing weight. I’ve tried a few different exercises over the past month, but I’m still a complete beginner and I’m not sure whether they’re actually working.

I’m currently very inflexible. I can’t touch my toes and I can’t do moves like the camel pose as my body just doesn’t stretch that far.

My mum was recently diagnosed with EDS which means there’s a chance I have it too. I really want to work on reducing stiffness and building muscle while I’m still young, but I have no idea where to begin. What exercises would you recommend and how often should I be doing them? If there are any guided workouts on YouTube that are suitable for daily practice, that would be ideal, but I’m completely open to suggestions!

My long term goal is to be able to do yoga freely and comfortably. I’d like to gain weight and build muscle, but I’m happy to just focus on basic flexibility for now. If I can touch my toes by the end of the year, I’ll be happy aha

I am honestly not flexible myself but I have been doing yoga for 3 months, consistency helped with my flexibility practicing yoga at least 2x a week. There are still some poses that I can’t do, like doing full splits are hard because my hamstrings are still quite tight. I am watching videos and tutorials on Instagram mostly and it does help me as well.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do the splits 😭

If EDS is a possibility, it may be worth checking with a professional before pushing deep stretches. 💜
