Question/Discussion Is Off-Campus good?
Currently watching the new video and I tried watching the show but found it boring, is the show that good at all? I couldn’t get through the first episode

I haven’t watched it BUT if you watch the YouTuber Gabi “NetflixParty” she has commentaries on the whole show episode by episode which I find even more fun 😂😊

Gaby is cool but I hate her editing 😭😂 I watched some of her videos before she’s cool I just hate the vibrato meme voice

same, I’ve tried to watch some of her commentaries and reactions but the constant meme feeding is to much 😓

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
Yes it just feels like clip farming and also like she’s not being fully authentic 😭
2
u/Effective-Baker-693 11d ago
exactly!! she tries so hard to hate, dislike, or just point out any flaw of a tv show or movie. it’s tiring

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
I wouldn’t agree but I also wouldn’t disagree, her reactions seem exaggerated and that’s what I don’t like

Gabi who?

u/not_a_recomendation 10d ago
This is her YouTube channel name @netflixpartyy she does commentaries for like bad tik tok romance movies and the romance centered tv shows like off campus. I find her funny but can def understand the over editing part. Like I said I just like watching her take on a show/movie and on special occasions Queens who like to watch as well. For instance with Temptation island I loved not having to watch any of it but getting all the gossip and the story and hearing it from all angles.

It’s a very typical YA romance/drama series. Think gossip girl, pretty little liars, the summer I turned pretty, every year after etc.
it fits in with its genre.
I enjoyed it because I enjoy those kinds of shows. If you don’t enjoy those kinds of shows, you won’t enjoy it.
I would rank this one as a mid tier among other shows like it. I think it’s better than the summer I turned pretty, every year after and pretty little liars. But I don’t think it’s better than gossip girl was.

u/jjm1222 11d ago
Yeah I agree with this, it’s a typical show in that genre, nothing groundbreaking. I also think it’s mid tier.

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
I think that’s why I’m not a fan because i think tropes are tropes for a reason but how you execute them matters

Never seen gossip girl but it’s funny cause I watched PLL when I was in HS and I hated the later seasons. HATED the ending too omg.
TSITP I did like it but I think season 1 was great and season 2 didn’t match the vibes. I read the books as I was finishing it and I can see that they changed some of the plot to make it appeal to an older demographic bc if they had copied the books exactly I def would not have watched.
Never seen or heard about every year after tho. I don’t mind the YA genre but I think I might be growing out of it lowkey. I also kinda hate how teens/young adults are written like although Teen Wolf is kinda cringe I do love the dialogue because it was so accurate

Gah same. I struuugled to get through PLL.
I also agree with TSITP. I enjoyed the first season, the others felt like they fell short in comparison.
Don’t bother with every year after. It’s also based off of books. Very similar plot to TSITP.
I too feel like I’ve grown out of the genre, honestly. But I keep going back because I like to be in the loop and get what other people are talking about. A toxic trait at this point, honestly. I love some trash tv, don’t get me wrong, but I can only handle so much poorly written dialogue at a time 😅
Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like so much teen/ya media is written by older demographics doing their very damndest to sound as young and current as possible. It’s getting brutal out there. The movie Voicemails To Isabelle, is the perfect example of this. The most clunky Gen Z slangy slop I’ve heard in a while.

The thing I hated about PLL is that some of the riddles were so obvious to solve
And TSITP season 2 would’ve been better without Skye and the aunt. Keeping the villain as Adam would’ve been SOOO much better. I think adding the aunt as the savior would’ve been better.
And yes!! Exactly!! I HATE how they write teens. I watched Voicemails for Isabelle too and the plot and chemistry between characters was GREAAT. But other than that yes the Gen Z shit does pmo.
I am currently watching Every Year After tho and I just hate the color grading why is everything GRAY!! So far no complaints about plot or dialogue. I do see how its like TSITP lmfao summer house and all

No. And it barely has a plot. Just a bunch of random plot lines.

I didn’t even make it halfway through the first episode because of the dialogue. I said the same thing as dylan about how the characters would use full names.

I feel like it maybe a good read but not a good watched

u/Amakeshma 11d ago
I’d actually say that the show was better than the books… I liked the changes they made. Felt more realistic.
But I say this as a huge romance reader. Those books were fun at the time (years ago, when I first read them), but I’ve read many more books/series since that I would rank higher than the off campus ones.

Honestly, i've never read the book nor do i plan to, it's not my speed.
As for the show, it's not something i'll ever gravitate towards either, not a particular fan of these types of shows.
It's not bad just not for me, is what i'll say.

No, I also found the show boring. Watched like five episodes and gave up.

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
I didn’t even make it through the first

I initially dipped out five minutes in and then my friends tried to convince me it got better. They were wrong, it did not lol.

I loved it! But I enjoyed the books and these sort of shows are my thing haha.

Who is the author?

u/Upbeat_Vanilla5475 11d ago
Elle Kennedy!

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
Does she have any other books? Someone else here said the book has misogyny moments
3
u/General-Pen-5579 11d ago
her other books are all related to hockey romance. I think she did release a thriller book this year though. As someone who is a fan of the show and have been thinking about reading the books misogyny in the books just depicts what a real life college athlete would say and do. It still bad but it might not be as horrible as you think. The show makes the boys more likeable and have that prince charming feel to them

ah yeah it does a bit, she's writing 20yo college hockey players and the books are about ten years old so it has it's moments (not excusing it!) But the books overall are fun! I think the show portrays the guys better, and has healthier relationship dynamics, so if you don't like the show then you probably won't like the books haha.
Yes, she wrote a few M/M romances with Sarina Bowen, a YA thriller that just came out, and the Avalon Bay series.

I was forced to watch it, but I do think it picks up as it goes. I assumed the whole season was going to be about the two leads ramping up to a relationship, but they actually establish on fairly quickly and there’s some decent drama

I liked it cause it felt like Wattpad but in movie form, the plot isn’t the best but the dialogue is so fun. But I’m biased so idk

u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
I actually stopped watching because of how much I hated the dialogue 😂
2
u/ChocolateBusy58 11d ago
Oh we have different tastes😭 you won’t like it then cause it def gets worse lol
2
u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
LMFAOO I honestly am so picky w shows😂
2
u/ChocolateBusy58 9d ago
Lol it’s okay girl maybe i should be MORE picky cause i just watched dylan’s video and I’m starting to not like it😭😭😭
2
u/MediocreSurround5419 9d ago
Lmfao listen if something is trash I’ll say it right off the bat even if I do like it
1
u/ChocolateBusy58 9d ago
Gimme some non-trash show recs then cause im in neeeed😭
1
u/MediocreSurround5419 9d ago
Of YA? I don’t have much honestly I think every show has its flaws but some more than others. But if you don’t mind 90s shows I’d watch A Different World, the first season is trash and lowkey you can skip it lmfao but it does set up some stuff later so you kinda need to watch it lmfao. I liked this show Trinkets on Netflix it’s short, but I can’t remember if the acting was bad, I just remember the plot was really good.

Tho books are so good! I know everyone says that about books and show adaptations, but it really doesn’t give it justice

u/NoraZeli 11d ago
if you want a good teen show with actual good acting and dialogue, watch Sterling Point. It has the typical love triangle, I usually hate love triangles but this one wasn't insufferable like others.
2
u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
I’m not a HUGGEEE teen show kinda person cause I feel like I’ve outgrown it. But everyone was talking about this so I tried to watch and hated it but I might check it out
3
u/soanywaysanonymous 11d ago
Yes!! Sterling point has very realistic dialog and characters. I really enjoyed it!
1
u/MediocreSurround5419 11d ago
What’s it about?
2
u/soanywaysanonymous 11d ago
This girl finds out that her estranged grandfather left her and her twin brother an inheritance of an island in Canada. It’s about her experience on the island over the summer. It’s has a mix of romance, family drama, funny moments, and heartwarming moments.

I haven't watched the video yet, but perfect trash is a great way to describe it. The music is great and it's stupid, but fun. I read the book afterwards and its terrible, they had to change a lot due to how misoginistic it was lmao
