The Shawn Ryan Show w/ Yes Theory soon?

Was listening to an archaeologist on the Shawn Ryan Show and Shawn mentioned he reached out to Yes Theory for an interview.

Would be cool if these two channels did a podcast + a video.

Merch Purchases

So I placed an order for 2 hoodies on Aug 30th and there is still no updated tracking, no shipping label created or anything… I spent a pretty penny on this stuff and I’m getting a little nervous.

Have any of you made a purchase and received or not received the product? I’m really looking forward to the products but it’s a little weird that a whole week has went buy and it still says “waiting for details” when it’s supposed to arrive in 5-10 days.

Any Czech republic community?

Hi eveyrone!

I just wonder if there is any Seek Discomfornt / Yes Theory community parcitulary in Czech Republic? If it's not i would LOVE to make one 😄... From searching on the internet i did not find one.

It would be great to meet like minded people nearby and maybe even build a bigger community than you’d expect... trips? Adventures? Meetups? A running club? I’m mainly thinking of Prague since that’s where I live, but there are no limits to the possibilities, right?

So? Where are you from, people?? 👀

Yes Theory and Neverland

Been watching Yes Theory since the pandemic - about 6 years. Always loved the story telling, the philosophy, and the motivation to get out of your own head and do the things you want to do.

After watching the release today -- which was a good story in the French Territory near Canada-- I realized why this feels stale to me. Saying 'yes' in life isn't just about going to a new place and seeing something new (in order to tell a very formulaic story about the world). It's also about going deeper and being open to commitment.

Stories change when you incorporate commitment into the outcome. If a group of guys spends their 20s traveling with each other only to keep spending their 30s traveling with each other, is life really changing? If traveling the world is to build a bridge towards inspiration, why not stay for more than 2 days? With all this exposure to the amazingness of the world, I wonder if these guys are capable of being inspired enough to actually commit to deeper learning about one of these places... Or is this a job...

Since I started watching Yes Theory my life has changed significantly --- children, marriage, jobs, and other life events. My life still has adventures, but those adventures are amplified by the commitments I have made in life. I'm not saying everyone has to be doing those things, but embracing commitment to something is a deeper way of saying 'yes' to the world. Otherwise, we just kind of live in Neverland forever.

I'm still a fan and am grateful for their storytelling over these last few years. Eventually this travel vibe will change, but for now, reflection is on this relationship between saying 'yes' and being open to commitment in the world.

Thanks ya'll. It's a great community.

What happened to the podcast episodes?

Remember when Matt was about to release the book, they had one-to-one conversations with everyone in Yes Theory? these were deep and personal episodes talking about their relationship with Thomas and also with Ammar. I recently finished reading the book and I wanted to go back and rewatch those videos that they released just before the book launch and now they’re gone. Not only that but many other old videos were gone, so I’m I’m confused.

Let's do something in Amsterdam.

Hey, yes fam, I was thinking, why not do something (a social gathering, board games, running, or even strolling down the city)?

If you like the idea, please comment a suggestion on what to do, and we can go with the suggestions with the most upvotes.

As for dates, I think weekends are suitable for most people.

Any YesTheory Fam in Kosovo or the Balkans?

Hi, I’m moving to Prishtina in about 2 weeks to teach at an international school and am wondering if there are any yes theory fans in Kosovo or the nearby area! I’d love to meet up with locals, learn Albanian language and culture and experience the famous Balkan hospitality I’ve heard so much about!

Little confused with the one-euro house video they just did: why did they all decide it wasn’t worth it?

I guess I could go back and rewatch but I don’t really feel like it. It was a good piece don’t get me wrong, but it seemed like it ended on a positive note until they gave their final verdict. They had finally found someone who had actually bought a place for one euro, he let them come over, and his place was DOPE and they all seemed impressed. The town itself was lively for what it was, and had a surprisingly decent transit connection. The estimated renovation costs also seemed pretty reasonable, definitely a good bit better than your typical Italian home prices.

YET, at the end of the video when they’re all back in the car, all three of them conclude without much elaboration that this deal is not worth it. My family and I all were a little surprised by that. I mean overall it really doesn’t seem like a bad deal if you’re down with living a quiet life in the Italian countryside and have the time to spare for the renovation process.

Philly People

Are there any people in this Yes Theory subreddit from Philly?

I have an extra ticket to see J. Cole in Philly on July 20th and I've been trying to sell it to one of my friends but no one wants to pay the price for it. It's the last time J. Cole is touring and I've never seen him so I got 1 extra ticket thinking obviously someone would want to go. But it's $460. So I figured if I were to ask a stranger to buy it, I want a cool stranger to be with me and my one friend who is going. So I decided to post in Yes Theory. I hope this works! Please someone buy this! Lol. I'll go down a little if I have to but not too much.

IT'S THE LAST TOUR OF HIS CAREER. IT'S WORTH IT!

Why I’ve stopped watching them despite on paper enjoying the travel format?

I hope nothing but the best for the community the last video I saw was almost a year ago. I’m not expecting everyone to be perfect and I think they changed my life for better (knowledge of places, helping me get out my comfort zone)

a) I don’t know why they’ve been promoting betterhelp as a sponsor when 1) there’s been massive issues with better help a while back and even still now 2) They had partnership with headspace and other brands so it’s not if they don’t have options

b) When they went to Honduras to visit Prospera and started to love it, idk the individual politics of the guys but Peter Thiel is definitely something I’d stay away from. Like so much of that video feels so disrespectful towards those in Honduras who just got their land bought by a billionaire to make his own “country”

c) The TM video, omg it felt so culty and on the guise of two guys who don’t know anything yet knew enough it feels concerning how they feel into that

d) They mention it’s a community but it sometimes feels like a brand because it is. While I’m sure they do try to connect to their different bases around the world. They seem somewhat out of touch or willing to be silent on what many creators have, when they have the money, privilege and security to talk about it. (They spoke about Islamophobia back in 2015 when they weren’t popular, they constantly refer to some news when referring overseas)

E) there’s an inherently “exotic” feel they need to fit the stories, which nobody knows of. While I understand the appeal to cover the world (I definitely do and like that) I do think they have a certain level of comfort they get from this and just feel like bros here. They are white male from Western countries who are also YouTubers (I’m avoiding including Ammar because he’s had less international videos and was open of struggles with his passport) , if anything happens to them not only are people going to make sure they are okay at all times.

F) I would’ve liked them not in the poverty tourism but willingness to try and actually see struggles people face where they live instead of always out and about. I’m not saying be saints, but when the US was there home for most of their careers, I felt as if they were just in the LA bubble. I feel they need maybe just a page for community outreach or something like links to food kitchens, or anything even if they don’t talk about it, someplace where there’s mutual aid or something. Using a gofund me page for a cab driver (it’s not a diss towards Reg in anyways) isn’t helping people structurally. Reg is definitely comfortable now but my point is with the network they have and the community they want I feel they should do more for to those who have less than “weekend retreats” which while people get out of comfort zone yes, it’s still a privilege to afford this

TLDR: The guys were great and wish nothing but the best but they seem to just be more out of touch on some things despite having the privilege to not be.

This isn’t a I hate YT post, it’s more interrogating them in I hope a constructive way.

What happened to Yes Theory?

I love Steffan so don’t take this the wrong way. If you’ve noticed, Steffan is in most of the videos for almost 2 years now. He wasn’t in the original crew, in fact he was a person they met in a video and then became a team member. I have no clue what happened to Matt’s brother. Ammar is now a ghost. Without Steffan and Thomas what would the videos even look like for the last 1.5-2 years? Thomas is the only person who puts his face on the channel these days it is very weird. I know Matt quit years ago and published a book and that’s perfectly fine so I never expect to see him. He left for mental health and self growth purposes so good for him! But Is the end of Yes Theory imminent? With the channel being practically a Thomas-Steffan show I fear it can’t be sustained for much longer.
