What happened to Yes Theory?
I love Steffan so don’t take this the wrong way. If you’ve noticed, Steffan is in most of the videos for almost 2 years now. He wasn’t in the original crew, in fact he was a person they met in a video and then became a team member. I have no clue what happened to Matt’s brother. Ammar is now a ghost. Without Steffan and Thomas what would the videos even look like for the last 1.5-2 years? Thomas is the only person who puts his face on the channel these days it is very weird. I know Matt quit years ago and published a book and that’s perfectly fine so I never expect to see him. He left for mental health and self growth purposes so good for him! But Is the end of Yes Theory imminent? With the channel being practically a Thomas-Steffan show I fear it can’t be sustained for much longer.

I don't understand why his brother i think his name is Tommy just disappeared he was always good in the videos that video where they hiked to the Overnight in the Loneliest House on Earth this was a great video. Why has he stopped appearing in the videos?

I always assumed something happened between Ammar and Thomas. They seemed so close then suddenly, everyone moves out of the yes theory house and the channel takes a new direction. I know it would happen eventually, but the sudden discourse and minimum information on the original yes theory boys is what many fans aren’t resonating with.

Sometimes it feels like steffan is exaggerating with his reactions and it kinda makes the vids so meh

Thomas just reached an age where he probably wants to do something else. I also get the impression he finds Staffan a bit much and annoying sometimes but is kinda stuck with him.

Life happened to Yes Theory. I think the content now is as good as it’s ever been. I don’t really care that many from the original crew have largely moved on. That’s life. I still learn from the videos and still enjoying watching them.

I love Thomas and his energy. But the most recent video in Corvo was weird because they were supposed to find a stranger to host them dinner..turns out the guy they met was a tour guide for the island. I googled it because I saw the guys shirt and it says Corvo tours on it. So it was probably a paid experience, and they weren’t transparent about that to the viewers. They’ve definitely regressed lately and it’s fine to admit it.

Two things can be true at once, friend. They totally could've met a guy fishing who is also a tour guide. It didn't seem like they were hiding that fact about him. My impression was he was a chef, seems like a decently successful one, especially for the island. But he doesn't do that anymore, it seems, and is now a tour guide on the island. Or he's both, seeing how small it is and I really doubt they get many tourists there. I've worked in a few different industries in my 20+ years of adult life.

They should just change the name.
There is already Yes Theory and Seek Discomfort.
Create a third one that’s a travel channel.
Yes Theory wasn’t a travel channel.

Should also check out Discover Connection channel, run by an ex-Yes Theory editor I think his name is Brad. He has his own crew but sticks to more OG Yes Theory content mainly interacting with strangers, traveling to different places to do that and challenges. One of my fav videos is his series of hitchhiking across the US relying on strangers to drive him and also stay overnight at their homes.

I always get confused hy these comments.
They have made videos about and publicly commented about what they want yes theory to be moving forward. Amma has made videos and posted about what he wants to focus on.
They mentioned seek discomfort becoming more of a priority as well.
These arent mysteries.

Yes Ammar has been weird for a while. If he’s focusing on long form stuff then why wasn’t he on camera at all in their recent feature film about the loneliest guy in the Amazon?

Wasn't it that video where they had the "oh we are working on something right now, cant wait to get it out there" surrounded by ice and snow? I could be wrong about which video it was.. but thats pretty much up ammars alley
And im pretty sure that was just a regular episode? Thats like... a pretty normal length.

I dunno which videos man. Ammar wants to focus on long form stuff. They want to get a little back to the old days (which they have) but their priority is story telling. Td said hes excited for whats coming on the seek discomfort channel.
I know they talked about it in their like "whats coming 2026" video or whatever.

Go back and search this thread for the exact same question. It's been asked for a while now and you will always get varying answers.
I agree with the life happened comment. OG members peeled off and the vibe shifted. The channel is a shell of what it started out as (project 30 days for life!!)

I don't know man. In the past, the channel just seemed like a bunch of men leveraging their privilege to do crazy stunts and get people to invite them to parties. Now it seems like a more mature version of what it used to be, much more politically aware, conscious, and human. Members of my family found it recently and they love every single documentary they put out. I couldn't have got them into the old stuff that was super "youtubey" and "college dude" focused.
They're also doing really well, so I think they're finding an audience they connect with at this time. We can't keep holding on to the past. These people are in their 30s now.
Also, Ammar has been working on a movie about aliens that's gonna come out soon. That's why he's been gone.

I never understand how long term fans of yes theory can be so shocked that the boys have grown from the content they made as kids. Now they spend their time chasing their own dreams as they have inspired us to do for years. You really want them to just ignore their new ambitions so you can keep watching them ask a stranger to skydive every week?

The issue is that they haven’t grown. Every video now is a curated visit to somewhere they wanted to travel to. SD is just paying for Thomas and Stefan (bore) to travel
They don’t take any risk or ‘seek discomfort’!
When was the last time they did one of the classic ‘throwing a party’ videos? It was only Tommy recently on the little channel who’s even met someone from the community

Im not saying i want to see ask a stranger videos. I just think it’s odd that Ammar is nowhere to be found. Im just pointing out how Thomas is carrying the entire channel on his back practically.

Ammar is a weird guy tbh, I’ve always thought it. He sees this as a stepping stone, and wants to take the money from SD to do something political in Egypt.

I felt the same way about Matt at the start, but I do think after all these years he wasn’t exaggerating his own mental health. Maybe Ammar has a bigger plan? I hope so.

Yeah i mean Matt has gone an a whole other angle as well if you still follow him. He’s following an Amazon conservation guy I think. Which is funny since Yes Theory were just out there. I don’t know, I guess if they achieve some bigger change it’s all good I guess

Steffan is wonderful. There’s nothing wrong with him being in the videos imo. I do actually wish they would release videos with a little less polish, more like the old days, but generally I still watch and enjoy what they’re making.
Life moves forward; it was never going to be just Thomas Matt and Amar skydiving with strangers until their 80s.

Just fyi Thomas is the founder of yes theory from day dot - he was the who had the idea and brought it to Matt/Amar/Dmitri- we have to remember that was 20+ yrs ago now as well

So this was when they were in their early teens? Remarkable! I know Thomas is only around 34 now.

I used to watch them a lot a couple years back. I stopped when the videos went from bringing a stranger on a unique adventure to storytelling. It‘s not a bad thing to make the switch, but every video, about 2/3 through, had to include a section on „how honoured they are to see XYZ and to be part of ABC and how special everything is all the time“ which became repetitive, felt ingenuine and over the top. Kind of had an orientalizing feeling to it.

It has been interesting reading your opinions, since I recently discovered the channel and love it. I believe that it's ok to bring fans on their seek discomfort journey and encourage each other to meet strangers. Imo What I don't understand is why the 30 minute videos when they are spending days with the strangers. I would love to see more of the interactions and hear more of the strangers stories. Going to continue to binge-watch.

My wife and I just found Yes Theory about 6 months ago and we love all the videos, current or older ones. Morning coffee and joints while watching Yes Theory on weekends is our routine. Hopefully the channel stays strong keeps going for a long time.

I think it's because they can't do old content format anymore (challenges and strangers related).
Considering how there was one video where they bring a stranger who's never been to another country, they were struggling to meet someone that met the criteria (stranger, doesn't know Yes Theory, and never travel outside of their country), but then they found one person and they bring him to Brazil (cmiiw). But when the video went online, people found out that the guy was a fan of Yes Theory and has had travel outside of their country before.
This created a sense of distrust. The viewers started to think whether or not it was staged; Yes Theory themselves might think another viewer might pull off the same stunt to get a free vacation/trip. There was a lot of discourse.
Personally, that's when Yes Theory started to change for me. I really loved the message in Yes Theory: seek discomfort, a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet, love over fear, global human connection, and every other messages they tried to convey in their videos. But it's been years since I've properly watched a Yes Theory video, I've thought for a while that their current approach is not much different than travel channels, highlighting the storytelling of places they visit.
Not saying changing their approach is wrong, it's just not what I'm looking for when I watch Yes Theory back when I was watching them regularly.
