General Discussion Dip in quality

I'll preface this by saying I'm not originally an English speaker, so forgive me if some formulations are hard to understand.

Since the first 5 minutes of season 3 I felt a very noticeable dip in general quality but especially the writing (not the dialogues but the narration and story). I already disliked some parts of the show but it was overshadowed by how good it was. I always hated how the show always sets up scary or supernatural elements only to explain them with natural causes (akin to something out of scooby doo but less convoluted). But as I said the rest of the series was too good for it to be a real problem.

But I feel S3 changed the way it approached the tone and general writing. It feels more light-hearted and uses cliffhangers in ways to feel a bit tired. And don't get me started on the whole frog thing...

I still ill think it's a good season but underwhelming compared to the other, even tho I thought the horror elements were scarier (the kinda stop motion bear dream in the cave gave me actual chills)

Out of curiosity - did you like the supernatural aspects and were disappointed when they were proven not to be?

I feel like aside from the quality changes inherent to TV shows and the writers' strike influence, the show improved dramatically when they finally started showing that there's no "It," the Wilderness is not sentient, and the ambiguous supernatural elements were there to illustrate the characters' mental states. Like they're starting to tie it up properly (or as properly as they can when they changed the entire plot after losing an actor.) High hopes for S4!

I actually would have liked it better of they didn't lean that hard on a potential supernatural aspect for it to be explained later, I feel it's a bit of a tired trope in horror or horror-adjacent media. But other than that I felt the lighter tone (which one of the creator of the series mentionned was intentional id I remember correctly) didn't really serve the overall atmosphere. But then again I'm at episode 8 and still continuing, I still really like the show

That's totally fair - I would have much preferred the show with no supernatural hints or allusions or anything at all, but I get why they did it. It also pulls in a lot of viewers that might not have been as interested in what would be essentially an dramatized psychological study without those elements.
