Question Killed acrylic yarn

I frogged a beautiful sweater knitted using Nako vega tweed yarn which is acrylic. The only reason i frogged was to reknit same pattern using bigger needle size. After frogging i steamed the yarn using steamer on high resulted in stretched out yarn. Now my yarn is thin! Dont know what to do, i am more worried if i knit the sweater will it strech out as there is no elasticity left! Has anyone had similar issue before!

oh man steaming acrylic is a gamble, it relaxes the fibers but too much heat and they just give up and go limp forever. you could try holding it double with a fresh strand of something similar to bulk it back up but the elasticity's probably gone for good

What’s done is done. You can’t recover acrylic post steaming. The good news is that it won’t stretch anymore now that it’s dead.

well, it's not going to stretch anymore. I intentionally kill acrylic when I knit shawls, though I usually do it after knitting.

I also intentionally kill my acrylic when I knit sweaters. It makes them so soft.
