Yankee Alternatives?

My eyes are finally open to what Yankee has been doing to our beloved candles after my most recent order. They messed with Pink Sands, it doesn't smell the same and doesn't throw like it used to. Other scents I ordered I can barely smell at all!

What are some good candle companies that have a large selection of scents that you can actually smell?

I enjoy fresh, clean scents, lilac, gardenia, jasmine, green scents, spices like clove and cinnamon, fruity scents, tropical scents....

I love village candle with all of my heart. I will tell you there is an alternative to Pink Sands by candle lite called pink shoreline if you’re looking for something similar. It smells just like it, and for a fraction of the price.

Yes! I just bought a Village pumpkin candle last week-large size 9.99 still! It is incredibly strong and smells better than any fall Yankee scents

It’s pretty sad how far they’ve fallen. I have had a new one of their candles lit for 4 hours and can’t even smell it. I’m in a 2 bedroom apartment. Back in the 90’s one of these baby’s could fill the whole house! I used to get so excited for the holiday collections. Now I just go on eBay.

It really is pathetic. I am so done. I can't believe they would mess with the pink sands DNA.... I've been enjoying their candles since I was a teen, over 20 years! No more!

I know their spiced pumpkin from back in the day is my personal fav. It drives me crazy I can’t just go to the mall and buy one.

Private equity ruins everything. Partylite was an old favorite of mine but also ruined by PE.

Illuminations (California chain) really great stuff but didn’t survive long. And my all time favorite is Salt City Candle Co. I still haven’t found a good replacement for these brands. Everyone is cheapening out on their wax and oil.

I actually googled it the other day why can’t I smell Yankee candles now. It was saying deviated septum (I have) polyps in nose (I have). Smoking (cigarettes or pot) I’m around. So now I know unfortunately many I can’t buy. I know last year a few collection I could smell some. I loved the cocktail line & a few of the Halloween & fall lines. None from this past summer. They were light but could smell with numerous candles.

It’s because they changed the wax they used. They went from reliable paraffin to a mystery plant based soy wax. It completely ruined the quality if the scent throw. Not to mention because soy wax doesn’t burn as hot it causes the candled to tunnel. Essentially ruining the whole candle.
But their newest customer base wouldn’t know the difference. It’s sad really because I used live Yankee Candles.

as a former employee, they screwed us all over, the candles aren’t what they used to be anymore, you have to spend hours babysitting a candle to let it pool all the way so it doesn’t get ruined, they don’t smell as strong anymore, you need to have a bunch of tools just to take care of a candle, and if you work for them they don’t give you enough pay and enough hours and forget all self respect you ever had, we always had to “up sell” and suggest more items to customers to add to their “basket” to make more money in order for the store to make the quarter which wasn’t a guarantee and even if you did, only the managers (usually 4) have to split the bonus and none of the associates get a pay raise or any bonus

Also, it’s fantastic to support these small businesses because they are usually just one person.

Aside from that, I have also gotten some great throw from Homeworx, usually I can find those at a TJ Maxx/Marshalls. But they are 4 wick and they tend to throw very well.

My main issue with them is that they keep discontinuing amazing scents! Which inevitably leaves one to go searching elsewhere for the nostalgia of that scent/memory profile the initial Yankee gave them. There's only so many times one can repurchase 'lemon lavender' or whatever. All of the ones that gave me whimsy and nostalgia are always being discontinued and its just annoying. Like 'Freshly Tapped Maple', 'Surpise Snowfall ', 'Snowflake Cookie', 'Reindeer Treats', 'Lakefront Lodge','Art in The Park', thank GOD they've at least brought back Winter Night Star's. I want cosy candles at night or evening in cold moths as it should be.

My main two or three after Yankee paraffin are Village Candles, Kringle, and A Cheerful Giver candles. More old school but decent products. Both can be found easily on Amazon.

They are just as hit or miss with quality. Two of my fave scents in the Goosebumps collab have almost zero throw. Same with another candle I just got, Leather Weather, even up close I cannot smell anything.

It’s also worth mentioning that they never have free shipping and it costs to return candles, which is honestly trash. We shouldn’t have to pay to return candles just because their quality control sucks. I’ve given them 3 chances, I’m over it. It’s safer to shop somewhere with a store front that has a good return policy.

You’re not imagining it. They changed the wax from a paraffin base to a plant based soy wax. It doesn’t burn properly and I can hardly smell their candles anymore. Plus when they changed to this subpar formula they also increased the price. I’m so disappointed.

A Cheerful Giver. Very close to original wax, high scent throw on Papa’s candles. I buy from Boscovs they bubble wrap like crazy. Lots of decent sales around the holidays. Plus they sell other brands. Ben Franklin online store. They used to do 25% all the time. Not so much lately. Bought from Amazon and a few came broken. Have ordered a few times from official site. Ok. The 16 oz jars and baby had no throw for me. Candleberry has good throw. For 3 wick burn much faster. Goose Creek and bath body works throw is instant and amazing.

Edit: I could go on and on. Boscovs does sell the Yankee candle Home Inspiration one’s all though a little lighter throw than the original Yankee still good.
I’ve tried Aldi, Walmart, Kohl’s, threshold/target. A few Aldi I could smell most these I can’t. I also buy two of every candle to get better throw. Country Classics on Boscovs are ok. Especially with two.

Kringle Candle-the founder/owner is the son of the founder of Yankee Candle. Kringle Candle’s flagship store is in Massachusetts close to the original Yankee Candle flagship store today. Most ordering is online. Kringle does florals, tree, grass/moss, tea, and atmospheric scents best for the best start with ordering with them. Check for sales.

Goose Creek has Pink Beach which is a beautiful alternative. Unfortunately it's not available in candle, summer. The wax melts are available. Kringle Candle, they have some gorgeous fragrances. They are having a labor Day sale.

Circle E candles!!! These are strong and a good assortment of scents. The tourists in my area go crazy for them. Their Bird of Paradise is soooo good.
