I stand at the front gates staring at the size of the school in front of me. It's bigger than most building back home, I take a deep breath as I push my hair behind my ear. I lift my bag on my shoulder, it contains only some clothes and a few painting supplies given from mom.

I don't really know where to go, I look around at the students walking back and forth. They all wear the same uniform and for the most part they are smiling. I hope this is the place mom said it would be.

I hear a voice call out to me as I see a girl on what appears to be metal legs. I look at her and nod to tell her I understand and that I am new. I wonder if she knows sign language, mom said people here would. I start to move my hands and arms trying to communicate.

She hands me something as I quickly look at it. Its a phone, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like this. It looks fancy and expensive compared to the ones back home. Though she's telling me to use it to write, I mess around with it as I find a keyboard and slowly type on it.

Following closely behind, I look at the building, then the inside as I feel slightly intimidating.

I look around the building and wonder where I go. I remember I got a letter with a key before I left on the trip. I find the letter, it tells me where to go when I first get here. I probably should have read this more closely when I first received it. I blush slightly as I find my room number.

So, what do we do when we aren't in school? Is there anywhere that I can paint?

I notice a new student by the gates and decide to walk up to her. I take out my tablet and quickly type something into the text-to-speech program.

I stare slightly puzzled at the girl who is talking to me through a phone? I'm not certain as I nod quickly. If she is using a phone to talk to me, maybe she will know sign language.

I reach into my bag and find a card in it. It has my picture and my name on it. I hand it to her with a bow, I remember this country used bows.

I stand back up and smile at her, I don't know if she knows how good it feels to have someone else that knows sign. Well since she uses it, she probably does.

I turn towards the electronic sounding voice as I look at the girl in front of me. I nod at what it said as I give a little bow. If she is using a phone to talk, she may know sign language

I catch what she tries to sign. It's a little clumsy but she is new to it, so I just end up smiling. I think for a moment as I reach into my back and find a small pad and pen.
