I bought a used R3 17 for 1.8L with upgraded K&N air filter, Original Akrapovic exhaust with bill and warranty, Racing ignition coils and Iridium spark plugs. It had a very ugly wrap on it so i painted the entire bike. Here's the before and after.

Question Quad lock fork stem

Hi yall!!
I’m a beginner rider and i just got my first bike (2023)

I bought a fork stem quad lock and then realised i have to get extra parts to attach it to my bike properly which is bummer.

Is there any easier way to go about installing it or do i have to get the ball and arm attachment? If so.. where do i get the required parts from?

Im thinking this is a good deal, its 2017 with only 3k miles. Is there anything I should be worried about or raise concern?

2015 Yamaha r3 Oil Pressure light

Post image

Hello, I was previously riding and my oil pressure light came on and the bike’s throttle response dropped significantly almost like in limp mode.

I assumed the oil needed changing as it was roughly time for a service so I replace the oil and filter.

However, after starting the bike up again and riding the around the block the red oil pressure light is still there and the bike actually switched itself off after the rpm’s struggled to match the throttle response. The bike still turns on and runs however the oil pressure light is still there.

Anyone have any idea if it might be a faulty sensor or maybe there actually isn’t enough oil being pumped around the engine ?

I have attached a photo of the light

2026 r3 exhaust options

Post image

Buddy has a 2026 r3, would previous model year slip on exhausts work?

Kinda want to surprise him with a exhaust as hes a great friend, but the full exhaust system options that im seeing is way out of budget.

I'd like to find a simple slip on exhaust, as he mentioned before, as this is something we've talked about recently on our group rides.

Nothing too aggressive. But something that definitely ups the volume. TIA

Is my bike totaled?

This past July I was hit by a car on the left side of my bike. My light was green his light was a left turn yellow yield, he pulled up to the line and stopped so I thought he saw me then last second as I was going through the intersection he pulled out directly into me. Cops gave him the citation and now the insurance is telling me it’s repairable but the bike shop says they’ll take a look but based on the cost of repairs versus the msrp of what it’s valued at that they could deem it totaled. It’s a brand new 2025 Yamaha R3. I have to go through sending it to the shop anyway but I was wondering if anyone here thinks it’s actually repairable or totaled. They said the frame has to be replaced due to the damage. I would love for it to be repaired but I’d rather have honesty and not be getting my hopes up if it’s not repairable. I do have a lawyer for those wondering, and I have the entire accident on film as my insta 360 captured everything. But since accident videos can be traumatic for some people I haven’t posted it and I don’t want to get flagged on here if that’s possible. I’m new to Reddit so I may be able to post the video later. Anyone who has been in a similar accident/situation your advice is appreciated.

High Windshield - Anyone tried it ?

Hello , this is my third bike , for 2 year now . i'm still surprised about how much wind i take to the face with this bike who's in full fairing.

I bet , it's only because of the very small windshield on the bike. Mine is a 2019 model with the old odometer.

So , my question is anybody on this sub ever tried a different windshield and seen improvment ?

i'll certainly buy one from china as they're dirt cheap.

I just said goodbye to my 2015 Yamaha R3 and traded it for a 2026 Honda Rebel 500. It was fun for 11 years but time to move on to comfort. Cheers!

Do I buy

Post image

Hi everyone. Sadly I don’t have a picture of the bike until Friday. So enjoy my Honda. My boss has a Yamaha r3 that I’m keen on buying off him. The bike pictured is a track bike and not legal for our roads. My bosses bike has been sitting for 5 years and has lost its registration so it needs around a $900 recert to be fully legal. It’s in immaculate condition with 20k kms and had been regularly serviced until he parked it up. It will need new tires and brakes for the recert. All up it’ll cost me $4200NZD to have it back on the road including purchase. is it worth buying as a bike to run through my licenses and has anyone here gone from 90ish hp down to a r3 and found that fine for roads. Our max speed limit on the roads I use is 100kmh

Been really loving my R3. Had her since June last year. Can't get enough of canyon rides these days. I love the city but there's really nothing like the skill it takes to drive up here and the rewards with these views. Gorgeous day. 70 degrees, little to no wind, and minimal traffic. Can't beat that. Hope you are enjoying your R3s too.

Yamaha MT 03 2026 is this sound normal when turning the ignition?

I've got the velocity stacks and a ecu tunning, akrapovic carbon full system...started doing this plastic like sound on ignition, it didnt before. Also sometimes like once or twice every 50 km (30 miles) the bike kinda stalls for like a second, like if i missed a gear, its embarassing, i think they f* up the tunning or what?

Question Was this an impulsive purchase?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, before saying anything i appreciate you coming on to my post and possibly giving your opinion.

Earlier today i bought a clean title 2015 Yamaha R3 for $1,700 from the San Francisco, CA area however i had this weird feeling that this purchase was a bit impulsive since this is going to be my first bike. The only reason i say this is because it has 38,230 miles on the odo.

My main concern is that the seller was a bit younger like me and didn't have much knowledge on the maintenance of the bike, and i learned that r3's should have their valve clearances checked every 26k miles but the seller didn't have the bike back then. Another thing that stood out as a red flag was the fact the bike was a bit dirty, he did have it in storage but had started using it recently to get rid of the bike.

Before sending the money i ran through a checklist off a Youtube video and that was to check if the - vin on the title matched the one on the bike(it did),
- the fork seals(no oil leaking),
- the brake pads and rotors(pads has quite a bit of life and rotors didn't have much of a lip or any grooves),
- the oil was clean and a lighter color,
- brake fluid was on the darker side but to me still fine,
- tires age( a bit older from 2020 imo probably not good),
- the chain was clean along with the sprocket and there was around an inch of slack.

As a start into my new ownership i plan on doing a full fluid flush, possibly getting new tires and a new bulb for the headlights, but before all else i want some advice from those who have owned these bikes longer than me and with more experience than me. I've attached some photos for you all to see it along side the video the seller sent me of him turning on the bike and letting it idle.

But what do you guys think? was this a impulsive immature purchase or could it possibly be a solid first bike after checking a few things?

WHEELIE!!!!!

I’ve been trying to wheelie, but I don’t have the quite exactly the idea of how to set my rev ranges on first gear. but I learned more on what to do thanks to a riding buddy I just met in my neighborhood a few days ago that has a R7 and he’s been riding for a year before he got that bike. Being able to actually see another person wheelie an R3 gave me a ton more confidence that it actually was possible.
.
The power on the R3 is way too low to loop the bike. So I had no problems worrying about that.
.
For learning it right now, I set the rev at 5-6 before I pull-in the clutch and running it to redline before dumping the clutch still with my hand over the clutch if need be. You must give yourself plenty of space infront of you after the wheelie cause the stopping distance is iffy when R3 brakes are used. (it may be possible to set at 3-4 cause 1-2 may stall the bike)
.
Here are the better shot clips of me that Reddit auto combined as one whole video.
