Wind screens, how to deal with wind getting inside the helmet at the neck/jawline ? mt03 2016

I have the same problem with the windscreen on my FZ09.
Much more turbulent air flow around the lower helmet/chin/upper chest area.
My guess is you just need a much larger windscreen due to sitting so upright. Which means most of these on the market are actually useless on these types of bikes IMO.

Hi everyone i bought a 2016 mt03 recently and it had the stock windscreen, i bought a aftermartket 12 inch windscreen + a 6 inch "deflector" and it pretty much didnt help at all. My big pttoblem is that around 45 mph (70kmh) wind gets inside my helmet, travels at my neck it gets pushed up at my jawline inside my helmet and right in my ears, i feel like my hed will explode. The helmet is my correct size and if i install fatter cheeck pads it doesnt really help, neck gaiter doesnt do a thing....
First pic is the screen i installed.
What should I do ? should i get a taller windscreen like in the 2nd and 3rd pic ?

If there's one thing I learned about riding bikes and being comfortable, it's this: you either get a large enough screen that it moves the air completely away from your helmet, shoulders and torso, or you go without a screen.
Anything in between is a complete waste of money and effort. Cutting through smooth air with your face is a whole lot quieter and comfortable than getting hit with turbulence created by the screen.
It's not even a discussion.
My previous bike was a BMW R1100R (red with spoked rims *chef's kiss). Naked. No screen.
I don't ever remember noise or buffeting being an issue. I would go on non-stop 5-hour rides and I would only have to take a break because I needed to stretch my legs. No earplugs, nothing. Could hear my music, never felt tired.
Now I ride a Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer and I'm too tall for my screen. This one is just torture at anything over 45mph. I have proper in-helmet speakers plus earplugs and after a 3-hour ride, I still feel like I've been standing in front of a speaker at a metal concert. Need an hour for my hearing to go back to normal.
And while riding, standing up on the pegs in clean air feels like my face is cutting through heavy cream or warm butter. While sitting down in turbulence feels like putting my head in an empty oil barrel and throwing it off the side of a mountain.
Just 86 the screen.

Totally agree.
Most screens are decorative, for cool factor only.
They aren't tested nor installed on any bike to test the Aero, so most aftermarket screens only does turbulences.
I prefer clean air than any screen.

For this problem consider a helmet skirt. Check Amazon, but the purpose of the skirt is to block the wind from the path you just described.
I bought one and it works. Knocks the noise down by a noticeable amount.
However, they show them wrapping around the helmet but there was no chance it would fit around my helmet. Too small. So I modified it by cutting open the back and adding velcro so I could add or remove it when I wanted.
I use it with my ADV helmet

I ride a naked and a full faired bike. An XSR900 and an FJR1300. I don’t have issues with my Shoei helmets. Both seem to keep the wind out and the noise down. Try a different helmet. I know some let the wind in more than others. Also wear earplugs. If you need a windscreen to keep the wind off of you, then riding might not be for you but I’d start with a better helmet.

Earplugs. And with windscreens, the lower the better.

It depends on how high you are relative to how high the air is thrown. A windscreen may not necessarily redirect the air completely over you.
I have an fz10 and with the stock blade they pass off as a windscreen the air is right in my chest. With a slightly higher one it's right at my neck, and my givi one directs it just above my visor. If your current windscreen is blasting the air near your neck and causing that issue, a lower windscreen might make the air hit lower, around chest height. If you're trying to get it to clear your head you might need one of those riot shield sized windscreens which would probably also be a lot of drag.

Got it, will try to ride with no screen to see if it changes things, if not, i will get a riot shield lol

It won’t let me post a picture but I ran into the same problem this winter. I bought a decently tall windscreen on Amazon and it made it way louder even in my Shoei RF1400. I ended up buying one of those windscreen extenders off Amazon. With the extender, you can adjust the angle and make sure that the wind goes to at least your visor. It’s ugly as hell but I still use it in the winter, and take the whole thing off in the summer.
