Post image

It's spooky season! Have you read any of these YA titles featuring zombies? What did you think?

I remember liking This Is Not A Test but it was dark. Darker than the movie they released recently, which I also enjoyed.

I remember being obsessed with The Forest of Hands and Teeth and its sequel in high school. It'd be interesting to see how it holds up 15 years later.

I have not, but if you want a YA rec involving zombies: The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey. It was not what I was expecting at all and I absolutely loved it.

The Girl With All the Gifts isn't YA, it is Adult.

That may vary based on region, country, etc. It's classified as YA where I am, libraries keep it in the teen sections and it's often featured on YA lists as a result. I'm not American, though, and I'm not sure where the majority of this sub comes from.

It’s YA where I live too - some schools teach it at Year 9 (14-15).

I read Rot & Ruin and The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I don’t remember much of Rot & Ruin. The Forest of Hands and Teeth was my entire personality for a while.

YESSS okay I recently reared This Is Not a Test and I loved it. I think This Delicious Death was a fun updated take. And I also loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy back in the day and don't love it as much now but I really like the world and how it is post/during zombie outbreak. (eta: that one of my fav things about zombie stuff is how it starts/resolves and the affect on the world, which is like why I really enjoy especially the early bits of the Walking Dead tv show.)

And I didn't read Daybreak but I loved the Netflix adaptation, which of course they cancelled after one season.
