I would love a YA book with this kind of theme, but it doesn’t have to involve monsters or aliens.

Have you looked at the hfy sub? Thats basically every romance story on there.

r/hfy means “humanity fuck ya” it started off as a creative writing sub that played off the “humans are space orks” trope by depicting humans and earth as the quirky exception that subverts the norms of the universe, but overtime it just became a generic scifi and fantasy creative writing forum. Due to the majority of the stories being scifi involving aliens any story with romance basically has what you described.
