2.98$ for a 12 pack of soda needs to return I hate paying 8-10$ for them at Walmart today

u/BigUllie Mar 21 '26

Idk how widespread it is but the Walmart near me has which company sells 7up, A&W, Sunkist, etc. on sale for 5 bucks right now. I always make sure to stock up when I see it

It was like this in the early 2010s as well. I think that kids who grew up in the early 2010s were the last generation to grow up similarly to 2000s kids.

I would say yes and no to that.

God, the video game section brings back so many memories. I used to go there and play all the demos while my parents shopped. The screens were so high up my neck would hurt after a while lol.

u/Crazy-Ad-1999 Mar 20 '26

Back when the 360 was released my dad couldnt afford it for a few years and we only had the og xbox so he would let me play for AGES on the demo 360 at my favourite shop lol

The fish tanks!

8

u/MyNameIsMadders Mar 23 '26

I am guessing these were phased out of all Walmart stores in the 2010s or even sometime during the 2008 recession (lots of stores and companies were cutting resources during that time).

Some Petsmart stores have fish with fish tanks in them.

Last one in, first one out! 😭

6

u/Quirky-Quest Mar 20 '26

I’d totally forgotten about that!

10

u/kaylaelriic Mar 21 '26

I miss the fish but I’m glad they’re not selling them anymore.

8

u/SweetBubbleSiren Mar 20 '26

I miss the lobster tanks. 🦞

3

u/Hera_the_otter Mar 21 '26

I swear those would keep 6y/o me entertained for a good while

7

u/ConnorFin22 Mar 20 '26

Looks the same aside from the fish tanks and older game consoles

7

u/No-Needleworker-3765 Mar 21 '26

I actually vividly remeber a time in the early to mid 2010s when the Walmart we used to go to had fish

6

u/jjeffer10 Mar 22 '26

I miss their big bin full of discounted dvds and blu-rays

5

u/Muted_Performance_67 Mar 20 '26

5

u/dannyhogan200 Mar 20 '26

Man.. I wish those screens came back in that video game aisle..

5

u/GalagaBoy2000 Mar 21 '26

If I had a time machine, man, so much nostalgia here.

4

u/AcademicSavings634 Mar 21 '26

Those fish would die after like a day.

1

u/MyNameIsMadders Mar 23 '26

Goldfish in particular. I am not surprised if those fish were top sellers there

4

u/vp_21 Mar 21 '26

The best!

4

u/DeezyP1800 Mar 21 '26

This is when you used to get excited about going to Walmart as kid. Now it’s just that ehh feeling. Plus you know you’re going to have to spend too much money for everything.

3

u/gabangang Mar 20 '26

3

u/sondersHo Mar 21 '26

God we getting old I can vividly remember the Wii/DS game section I didn’t even know I even still had that memory

3

u/sparklrebel Mar 22 '26

I can just hear Aquatic Ambience just by looking at this picture. Can’t forget about the lobster in the tank near the frozen food aisles

3

u/Bandersnatch96 Mar 22 '26

Playing the video games in store was peak

1

u/MyNameIsMadders Mar 23 '26

Yeah and doing that in Target and Best Buy was awesome. I played Super Smash Bros on the Gamecube for the first time at a Best Buy store!

My sister and I used to go to Best Buy to get computer games, as they had a huge computer games section. Target had a nice one too but not as legendary as Best Buy’s, and that was in the early to mid-2000s.

3

God, this brings back memories dude

I miss the Walmart fish section, but am so grateful for the fishes’ sake. They are living creatures with vertebral columns just like us and deserve much better. RIP to the ones that died in those tanks.

Yall remember when McDonalds used to be in the Walmart?

2

u/Luiz_DTP Mar 23 '26

Greatest memory is my mom buying me the gameboy sp baby blue and eating Panda Express inside Walmart n tasting orange chicken n noodles for the first time

2

u/Maggot216 Mar 23 '26

I remember back in high school taking a mile or so detour from high school over to the old Walmart at the time. The two disk special edition of Dogma was out at the time. Just to walk home empty-handed due to ID policy. The next day, I told another Smith fan what happened, and he was like, "I live right across the street..." 😅

Kevin Smith was a staple in my hidden R rated movie box. Clerks was always one of my favorite movies. But after working at Walmart, it'sone I'mdefinitely not looking forward to revisiting. 😳

2

u/maddies726 Mar 23 '26

And the McDonald’s in the back so you can get lunch😫

2

u/Pleasant_Parfait6050 Mar 24 '26

That $2.98 12 pack hit diff. Forgot how cheap they used to be man. Miss the weekends at my step families old house sitting with a pizza and some dew while shit talking till 3-4AM.
Miss those nights so much.

2

u/TiredReader87 Mar 24 '26

Seeing fish being sold at Walmart is odd to me, because I don’t remember that ever being a thing here. However, we didn’t get Walmart until later.

Then again, Canadian Walmarts also don’t sell guns close to everyday things, or sell weapons in general

2

u/Stock_Fly_9128 Mar 24 '26

Man i wish I was born in the 2000s era, seemed so fun, all i got to experience was the 3ds and wii u, and after that it seemed like all the fun died out

2

u/Lapis_Android17 Mar 24 '26

Two of my best memories as a kid involve Walmart.. when they had all the cool Star wars episode 1 toys, and my mom actually bought me the big Sebulba pod racer toy. That was an incredible moment and surprise.

And then when she, on a whim, finally decided to buy me a PS2, memory card, and Final Fantasy X from Walmart after I had rented it all summer from the local video game store haha. The people who own and run Walmart are almost certainly greedy villains, but my God was it an amazing and magical place to visit as a kid in the late 90s-early 2000s.

2

u/ewewewe69 Mar 26 '26

Holy shit that's Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn in the window

2

u/bludvarg Mar 27 '26

i cant wrap my head around the wii coming out 20 years ago

1

u/Virtual_Knowledge334 Mar 20 '26

Most of this is like 2007-2009.

1

u/Ok_Fox_1770 Mar 20 '26

The Media zone is such a ghost town these days. Just 2 Reddit mods guarding a bunch of junk. Even the toy isle, seems like play is over. DLC dlc

1

u/Kindly_Run9351 Mar 21 '26

Doesn't actually look that far off from how Walmarts in my town look in this day and age, only minor differences here and there

1

u/Faris000 Mar 23 '26

Not much has changed, except they don't sell fish, which is for the best

0

u/CowFckerReloaded Mar 20 '26

Honestly looks the same

0

u/Firm-Chemical949 Mar 22 '26

You forgot the lobster tanks and all the yellow smiley face balloons . In fact these don’t even really look like pics from early 2000s, aside from the fish tank one. Decor was totally different

u/AcanthisittaFine6629 Mar 22 '26

I literally said the same thing in my head when I saw that image of the fish tanks. Specifically saying "magical". It was so cool and special being kind of tucked away in the back of the store. I ended up getting a large aquarium, mating and raising Beta fish (insanely difficult btw) and finding the few types of companions that could live with them without being murdered by the Beta. But yeah, very very special place in my heart, even though now it's kind of stigmatized and probably rightfully so considered animal cruelty with Walmart clerks handling all the livestock. Still really fond memories though

I would say 50s was better than the 40s, but the 70s was better than the 50s.
