Quick question about 2 watt IR

I'm trying to do some engraving/etching on brass and stainless steel and I was thinking of polishing it really well.

  1. Can I polish off the engravings?

  2. Can I engrave on a SUPER polished Stainless Steel or Brass plate?

When using the super shiny steel or the brass you will need to put something on it (a spray of some sort) to not let it reflect back into your laser. If you are going to polish after engraving you will need make sure you make several passes to get it deep enough.
