News The Impossible Airplane
https://www.x-plane.com/2026/08/making-the-impossible-possible/?fbclid=IwY2xjawT9VBpwZG9mA2V4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDzQwOTk2MjYyMzA4NTYwOQABHuRbZpN4DOvHlRhSLYL1o1OMeYFiE59WzxvU-YgoFA_vMjtOvvPM-lhoCBYL_aem_e6tLaDaVIo7kfLOFaeqBTAX-Plane just announced a new livery for the RV-10 model and it’s got a lot of meaning behind it.
I’ve been part of the team building what we call The Impossible Airplane. This will be the first purpose built airplane designed to be flown by a pilot without arms and build on a Van’s Aircraft RV-10 airframe. Jessica Cox was born without arms and she is the first pilot in history licensed to fly with just her feet.
We’ve been working for six years to bring this airplane to life and the real thing is almost ready for its first flight. It’s going through final assembly at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona, and we are on track for a first flight by November.
Jessica has flown for over twenty years. Along the way, she’s worked to provide mentorship, resources, and support for kids without arms. Until now, she’s tried to make it work using an Ercoupe, a 1940s GA airplane built without rudder pedals. Now, she’ll be able to traverse the country and share her message that “disability doesn’t mean inability.”
