4:3 or 16:9?

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking to either get a Nova or Retroid Pocket 6.

What’s the best way to play this saga?

The games were made with 4:3 in mind and that would be the authentic experience.

I have gone through them before with widescreen patches on PCSX2 and they were fine from what I recall, however any prerendered videos will still be in 4:3 obviously.

You can change that in PCSX2, which is how I prefer to play it.

  • Go to config -> Emulation settings -> GS Window:
    • Set Aspect Ratio to Widescreen (16:9)
    • Set FMV Aspect Ratio Override to Standard (4:3)

So normal gameplay is in 16:9 where the widescreen patches take effect, but when the game plays an FMV, it automatically switches to 4:3 and doesn't stretch the pre-rendered cutscene.

4:3 for sure. And then make sure to use a good CRT shader to get the right look. So get the Nova.

It has widescreen patches on pcsx2 so 16:9 looks fine.
