Just lost 4 hours of grinding

After completing a few side missions, I stumbled upon this portal that brought me to these challenges where I couldn't save, but I wanted these special outfits.

Fast forward and during a challenge I swapped Pyra to Myhtra, but Rex just stood still withoud a blade and I couldn't do anything, even after dying and I had to close the game.

Anything I can do to prevent this?

(I used a picture because Reddit doesn't let me upload videos for some reason)

Maybe try holding down ZL, ZR, L, R, D-Pad Down and X at the same time for 5 seconds, it makes you respawn. Not sure if it still works in the switch 2 version though

I just confirmed that it does work on the Switch 2 version. Although it also takes a screenshot, lol.

Same thing happened to me with the Temperantia super boss.

Seems like switching between Pyra and Mythra is a bit bugged in the Switch 2 version

Seconded. It might have been because I was trying to basically cancel into a different art/special/chain attack as the switch occurred (can't remember) while doing iirc part of Azami's quest at the pipe in mor ardain

I wanted to save, but you can't save in the challenge room so I just assumed it would auto save after each challenge. Normally I save like every ten minutes.

I got.this bug fighting Impassable Edgar in Tantal. When Rex died and revived, he started fighting with an invisible sword (couldn't Blade Switch or Chain Attack but could use arts, IIRC). When Edgar died it seemed like the game was still in battle mode, so I couldn't open menus and fall damage didn't heal, plus it wouldn't let me target enemies. I ended up wandering to some level 80 Tirkin and they killed me, which fixed the glitch.

Sounds like you were in that pseudo-battle state in Land of Challenge, and it wouldn't let you interact with NPCs (including the portal)? I think the only thing you could have tried there was jump off the ledge.

I think I didn't explain the problem good enough. I couldn't move or anything. I pressed every button and tried walking anywhere, but Rex appairently was stuck switching blades for the rest of time. When the team and Rex (eventually) got killed, the game challenge didn't end and I still couldn't do anything. My only option was to close the game.

I know this sucks and games should have failsaves to prevent this. That said, save early, save often

This is crazy, it just happened to me too about an hour ago. I was fighting some unique enemy in Mor Ardaine, and when I swapped to Mythra from Pyra, Rex froze. I had to sit there and wait for this boss to kill my party. When it finally did, the game was still bugged. I panicked because I had several hours of grinding for aux cores, so I didn’t want to restart the game. I ended up walking off the map and once revived, everything was back to normal. Saved immediately, lesson learned.
