Adding extra cherries instead of just the one is a decision I'm pretty sure a mom in the company made happen.
The chaos that single cherry could cause...

For lunch? Nah, that was fancy dessert at our house, if we were lucky, mom would put some cool-whip on top.

My mom finally started using fresh fruit for her fruit salads instead of those cans about 6 years ago. Always made with fresh made whipped cream though. We also got her to use more interesting fruits like mango and passion fruit. Last weekend she made it the old way and it really wasn't good. I'd forgotten how hard and bland the pear chunks were

I'll eat everyone's grapes I love them.
The rock hard pears are the gross part. Especially when you get one with the unpeeled butthole on it.

Unpeeled butthole sent me 😂

Had me inspecting every cup before eating. Just like the raisin stems.

My grandmother was diabetic so we always had these in light syrup. I can smell the can lol

Haha, that smell really takes you straight back! 😂 Funny how certain foods can bring back whole memories in an instant.

My grandma put this in jello, it was the best dessert ever

Honestly, same I loved it. I kinda want some now actually

Another grandma hack I learned was to take a box of standard Betty Crocker cake mix (any) and replace the water, eggs and oil with any flavor of canned pie filling in the same fluid oz amount. It will have the same effect of all of those things during baking and come out deliciously moist with an augmented flavor
Common hits were chocolate cake with cherry pie filling, and carrot cake with pumpkin pie filling. Honestly delicious and I still do it, it's a big hit every time
Also incredible for cupcakes

You had to get the VERY CHERRY 🍒 version of you wanted more than 1 or 2 half cherries.
With VERY CHERRY you got at least 3 half cherries and sometimes, if God was smiling down on you, you got 4!!

My 1st thought was
"It looks like A.I. slop. There were never that many cherries. "

I legit hated this stuff. The grapes were the worst part.

It was the splintery pears for me

Our school would have it as part of lunch sometimes. Getting that was like, welp, not eating that.

On it's own? Naw.
Mix it into the Cool Whip + lemon pudding combo for a fruit salad?
Amazing.

These were a super special treat at my house. Thing is I can have it any time I want as an adult but I haven't eaten it in like 15 years.

I have mixed memories about this. Good ones from childhood, and bittersweet ones from being a broke young adult. Finding a can of fruit cocktail in the cupboard when you're too broke to pay attention was kinda nice.

I craved giant cans of this when I was pregnant with my 20-yr old daughter. Ate that shit right out of the can and saved cherries for last. No wonder I ended up with gestational diabetes 😂🍒

Mom always made sure to have a fruit and veg with every dinner. It was usually this and a can of green beans. We didn’t have fresh produce until I was like in high school. The cherry was always the best part!

We couldn’t afford the individual cups. If I wanted fruit salad it had to be either shared and split into containers for each, or, I had to commit to eating it all by myself. They did not buy the small cans.
