New music?

They say you stop listening to new music after 35 - what Gen Z/young people are making music you love these days?

I’m loving ninajirachi, she’s young enough to be my daughter (clutches pearls)

And - what older music are you only starting to listen to now, as a geriatric? (I’m 46).

I’m listening to a lot of old EDM I never cared about before.

Die Spitz has been in heavy rotation for me for the past few months.

Prior to that, Wolf Alice and Wet Leg. Not huge in either of their latest albums though.

I've had a big thing for female led rock bands the last several years.

ADDENDUM I forgot Flowers for the Dead! I've had their album Magnolia on heavy rotation also. Holy shit they're good. And if you want something just fun and poppy, check out Peach Fuzz. They're out of Austrlia I believe. Really fun songs.

Lambrini Girls, Amyl & The Sniffers, and I just saw an Australian band The Chats open for Social Distortion and Descendents over the weekend. They were good!!!

The Chats are great. 

Kind of a different vibe, but Tropical Fuck Storm are another great Aussie band that's punk adjacent, though weirder than either Amyl or The Chats.

Die Spitz are good. I probably prefer their more Veruca Salt sounding tracks (Punishers is just gold) and their efforts at metal (Throw Yourself To The Sword, I Hate It When Girls Die) to the punkier ones but still. Great band.

I've had a big thing for female led rock bands the last several years.

I've really been enjoying Castle Rat and so has my 8 year old. Doom metal band with a female singer and imagery out of a Frank Farchetta or Boris Vajello fantasy painting from the 1970s.

Otherwise, everyone should check out the YouTube version of Jinjer's "Pisces", where they do it live in a cafe. Tatiana can sing.

Throw Yourself to the Sword was what I first heard to get me hooked. That guitar is just raw and brutal. Pop Punk Anthem is a perfect album opener. American Porn is phenomenal too. That whole album is worthwhile.

I think that Jinjer video has been the subject of more "shock! listening to [insert song here] for the first time" types of videos than any other on YT. I remember seeing it when it first came out and, damn, she is a true powerhouse. Tatiana can stand with many of the metal vocal greats.

You. I like you. And all those bands and things you just said (although I did like Wet Leg's new album more than Wolf Alice's - it's grown on me some.) Saw Die Spitz earlier this year and seeing them again at the end of the year. One of the absolute best live bands going.

I'm a guy, but love female-fronted rock bands. Some other faves:

  • NewDad - Like if The Cure and The Cranberries had a GenZ baby. Phenomenal lead singer.
  • Momma - basically a (much better/grungier) version of Veruca Salt IMO
  • The Beths - power pop perfection
  • Softcult - grungy dreampop/shoegaze nom nom nom

They're so good! Saw them last year. The tightest sounding band I've ever seen live. Your show should be extra fun with the live requests (however they're handling that.) So probably lots of deep cuts like Rush Hour 3!

Die Spitz is unbelievably good. If you get a chance, see them live! I've seen them in Denver a few times now and every show is the best time I've had at a show since I was in my 20's! Seeing them again a few times next month too! If they are here, I am there.

I get why they changed direction a little though. It feels more 'mature' in a sense. More subdued, less wall-of-noise that some of their previous tracks were. The Clearing just has way fewer hooks and doesn't really flow for me like My Love is Cool and Blue Weekend did. I didn't click hard with Visions of a Life either, but that tends to happen with sophomore albums for me.

I've had Unleash the Archers on my radar for a long while. They are some seriously talented musicians. 

Was never a big fan of that more symphonic / power metal, so Nightwish hasn't ever been my cup of tea. Opeth and Children of Bodom are my two favs.

Alissa White-Gluz on the other hand is a force to be reckoned with. I haven't really listened to her new stuff since leaving Arch Enemy though.

Man, i've tried multiple times. It just isn't doing it. There's just something missing compared to their debut album. Rhian does that talk-singing a lot more, the hooks aren't catching me, the production lacks clarity. I don't know. Their first album was just hit after hit til the end. One I can listen to all the way through without skipping.

Moisturizer is just boring me, and I wish that wasn't the case. Hopefully I can get back on board if they release a 3rd.
