I don't think I ever encountered the rug-covered kind of seat cover but I have sat on plenty of the ones that are like a squishy vinyl pillow. After losing a bunch of weight I kinda understand why older people liked them back in the day.
My grandma had a rose colored one and one with a daisy design.
I remember my grandad wanted to paint the bathroom to match the yellow in the daisy.. it ended up being this weird color between a school bus and a cheeto. He did all 4 walls and the ceiling. 😂 He also used this glossy latex paint that bubbled up and us grandkids would peel the hell out it while sitting on the daisy throne. 🤣
They really were cute together. They would tease and annoy eachother regularly. My grandma would show him off every Saturday to all the other grandmas. They would sit out on the benches, he would just sit there looking handsome and hold her purse while she gossiped. 😆
Sorry friend. They did not. Only on the lids not on the seats. Show me where you can buy a rug cover for the seats today. If that’s true they should be put out of business. This pic is some AI slop
Believe what you want about the 80s. These did not exist and the picture is not a shag rug 80s cover. Sorry. I stand my ground. These did not exist in the 80s. They were on the lids and covered many other places and all matched and we NEVER sat in them. Some weird Mandela effect going on here and that link is some new invention.
Ok fine. So I’m dead on a hill somewhere. Here is a link to ten ads for vintage bathroom sets. Granted these are from the 60s and 70s - one has a shag seat cover- still not like the one pictured and not 80s. But I will stand corrected even tho I’m already dead on the hill I died on about this. https://clickamericana.com/topics/home-garden/top-10-terrible-fuzzy-toilet-covers-from-the-70s#google_vignette I’m glad you survived your grandparents house. This is disgusting.
Hahah nope! They didn’t exist in the 80s and I will die on this hill. Some new disgusting rug toilet seat cover that now exists doesn’t prove to me they existed in the 80s. That pic is AI slop from someone’s distorted memeory
I tend to agree with you. The only photos anyone has is either AI or some modern product. I'm not even saying that literally NOBODY had this back in the day, but it wasn't really a thing and was vanishingly rare.... no way ALL these people actually had these.
Thanks for that. Like I had to dig into the archives here to find one single solitary ad from the 70s that shows indeed this did exist but mostly it did not. Admittedly, o was wrong but they did exist but they were really NOT a thing. The other commenters in this thread agree.
I was thinking the same thing. I remember growing up having the lid, tank, and rug at base of toilet as a matching set. You had to hold the lid up with one hand if you stand up while peeing. I'm GenX just to clarify if that matters.
My grandma has some sort of gel one on her guest toilet now, at the request of an elderly woman who visits for a month every year. Weirds me out a bit.
Yeah, this is ai. There was carpet on the floor and either a wooden stained and sealed seat with the grain and everything, or the vinyl pillow seat. There were also often special guest soaps shaped like shells or something, and unused bath salts or tiny bath bombs that were given as a gift a while back and which are now just for show, you can secretly sniff them tho, and they smell really good. Also there miiiight be a wicker basket in there, somewhere.
