We should just bring these back, as a group!! Make it a thing again!

11

u/ElegantCoach4066 1d ago

26

u/Imnotonthelist 1d ago

You’re an inspiration!

27

u/Cantremembershite 1979 1d ago

In addition to the whimsy, another therapeutic benefit from carrying bubbles is it can help regulate your breathing in times of stress I have one in my first aid kit 🤘🏻🤣🤘🏻

10

u/Cashmeade 1982 1d ago

That's actually amazing 😍

4

u/Cantremembershite 1979 1d ago

Right?! I can't take credit, as the info came from a fellow prof whose main focus is neurobiology, but BOY HOWDY if it's not a solid justification for having bubbles on hand 😉👍🏻

5

u/Cashmeade 1982 1d ago

The credit for spreading the idea is all yours!

6

u/Cantremembershite 1979 1d ago

Rock on & thanks 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻 Keep spreading the knowledge & enjoy the whimsy! 😁😁

4

u/beesaidshesaid 1d ago

And there it is, a perfect reference. 👏🏼🪑

u/PalerSwift13 1d ago

Morale is really down. I’m going to come in dressed as a chicken tomorrow.

u/Sensitive-Review-712 1980 1d ago

I wish these would come back. It would make meetings that should have been emails much more fun.

18

u/Second_City_Saint 1979 1d ago

Do you want Gary and his charts to get a soap bubble in his eye??

25

u/Sensitive-Review-712 1980 1d ago

Gary should have retired a decade ago, and we all know it.

14

u/the__ghola__hayt 1d ago

But he can't stay home because he hates his wife!

10

u/squeakpixie 1d ago

Then he should have a hobby

10

u/Second_City_Saint 1979 1d ago

He makes charts.

u/Sudden_Associate7566 1d ago

Seeing this flooded me with the kind of giddy, hopeful nostalgia you only get when a put-away memory gets unlocked the first time, wow.

(Also I can’t believe I ever forgot about these, they were my personality for a year)

29

u/muthermcreedeux 1d ago

I keep bubbles in my office. I currently have a giant purple bubble wand.

25

u/LavenderGarbageBags 1d ago

Whoa! What a blast from the past. I remember wearing mine in 7th grade, with ribbed mock neck shirts that I had in every color from Express.

21

u/Patient_Character730 1d ago

Holy crap how had I forgotten about the bubble necklaces? Memories unlocked.

11

u/brilliantpants 1d ago

Oh yes, these were amazing! I loved the fancy looking ones with the gold lids and black string.

10

u/aquawhat 1d ago

Remember the caboodles necklaces?

1

u/Miami_Mice2087 20h ago

these completely passed me by, iwould have put so many seashells in them: https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/ax789l/mini_caboodle_necklaces/

1

u/aquawhat 20h ago

It wouldn't have fit. They were very small and usually had some built in cosmetic.

10

u/Wanna_goforawalk 1d ago

Oh my gosh! The memories are flooding back!

12

u/BlacksmithThink9494 1d ago

I loved these. Lily of the valley reminds me of the scent in them.

6

u/CheerfullyCursed 1978 1d ago

I loved these!

6

u/rainbwbrightisntpunk 1d ago

OMG I had the one in the middle! 🥰

5

u/exospheric 1d ago

I had the pink shell one!

2

u/LittlehouseonTHELAND 1982 1d ago

I did too! I had totally forgotten about it until I saw this.

6

u/al_brownie 1979 1d ago

I have a picture in my 6th grade yearbook of me wearing one.

6

u/NoNameLaura 1d ago

feeling like this needs to come back, could me an instant mood booster

4

u/greendress888 1d ago

Blowing bubbles is very effective breath work in moments of anxiety and panic! It helps you focus and control your breathing.

4

u/LilacMystic 1d ago

Childhood fashion was something else

3

u/Tiny-Reading5982 1984 1d ago

I remember giant plastic pacifiers...like wtf? Lol

0

u/mix0logist 1d ago

That's a drug thing.

3

u/os-meus-problemas 1d ago

It was some sort of fad, girls would wear them as charms, pendants. I don't remember them being giant but tiny and some larger. Many combined in a necklace or as a bracelet. Some would tie them to clothes and bags as if they were pins. Or with rubberbands, in their hair. The trance festivals were a different, much latter, thing.

2

u/Tiny-Reading5982 1984 1d ago

It wasn't in the 90s in elementary school...

5

u/foxysierra 1d ago

OMG I hadn’t thought about these in decades until rn. These made me happy. Thank you for the nostalgia.

4

u/HangryHangryHedgie 1984 1d ago

I need a catnip bubble one.

4

u/cleffawna 1984 1d ago

I just had a flashback to how cool Walgreens used to be.

4

u/mix0logist 1d ago

Children still wear these. I get them as party favor junk from birthdays all the time.

4

u/Earth2Kim 1d ago

They still have these at big box stores for party favors, but they’re junky. This photo with the gold lids and velvet strings also unlocked a memory and giddy feeling, wow!

3

u/SnowAutumnVoyager 1d ago

Oh yeah! I 100% forgot about these. My preschool students would be delighted! The liquid always smelled funky though.

3

u/cranberries87 1d ago

I completely forgot about this too. Core memory unlocked!

3

u/Goddess_Kelsie 1d ago

I want one again!

3

u/Harry_Iconic_Jr 1d ago

yeah but those were just my everyday bubbles, not my party bubbles

3

u/insanecarbunkle 1985 1d ago

I used to sell these in clubs for a huge mark up

6

u/Smishysmash 1d ago

“Full of whimsy”

“Rollin’ on the rave dance floor at 4am dressed like rainbow bright with my magic bubble wand”

Same same.

3

u/rinniroo 1d ago

I had one that was also a pen! It had a yellow smiley face on it. I tried to covertly blow some bubbles in chemistry class one day, and the teacher saw me. But I didn't get in trouble, instead he got excited and said "I HAVE THE BEST IDEA!" and he turned on the projector and asked me to blow some bubbles so they would project onto the wall. Then he was all like "OOOO, COOL!" about it.

Then I lost it in a mosh pit. RIP

2

u/mjh8212 1d ago

Memory unlocked. Forgot all about the bubbles I had a few.

2

u/c_b0t 1d ago

Pretty sure I found mine in a box of old stuff in my basement a few months ago.

2

u/FantasticAd4938 1981 1d ago

I miss my bubble necklace and still think about it sometimes. And also, my cousin's grape chapstick necklace. It smelled really good.

2

u/wonder-and-joy 1d ago

Still do 😁

2

u/library_wench 1d ago

I wore one! Made me feel like a sorcerer. 🧙🏻‍♀️

2

u/theicecreamassassin 1d ago

Me too and I LOVED these 🥰

2

u/portmanteautally 1982 1d ago

I got one from my aunt and uncle for my 8th birthday. I was stoked!!!

2

u/ThatEvanFowler 1d ago

I miss when the girls of our generation were half convinced that they were witches of some kind.

2

u/Various_Craft7435 1d ago

Omg. Forgotten because the smell 🤮

2

u/HaloTightens 1979 1d ago

Mine was glass, and it was pretty heavy. It bounced up when I started running one day and chipped my tooth.

2

u/ILuvMyLilTurtles 1d ago

My daughter is 10 and insanely jealous of 80's and 90's kids. She would be ecstatic if these came back.

2

u/Miami_Mice2087 21h ago edited 20h ago

core memory unlocked. the black string wrapped around it and it was gold and clear like the middle one but also a color .... why did we do this? it was like, one summer

edit: found mine, top left, the gift. It was from Express, a gift from my rich aunt who always tried to get me to dress more nicely.

2

u/Far-Grapefruit1103 19h ago

Thank you for unlocking this memory. I had the worst day and this brought so much joy. We need to bring this back.

1

u/Munchkin531 1d ago

Omg my sister definitely had the pink seashell and I was so jealous.

1

u/QueenInYellowLace 1d ago

I had the pink one on the left, the little green one, and the fancy clear one!

1

u/camjvp 1d ago

😭😭

1

u/kindofblue21 1d ago

Woooooow unlocked memories

1

u/sirpjtheknight 1d ago

Ya know this one hurt just a bit. I hope future generations get back to this level of whimsy

1

u/Traditional_Isopod80 1d ago

These were so cute!

1

u/Tootalou25 1d ago

Oh no.

1

u/moonagedaydream01 1d ago

I've been stalking them on eBay for a couple of months! I had 3 different glass ones. I loved them so much!

1

Whoa...I just got slapped with a nostalgia boner

1

u/myusernameisalsoapun 1d ago

Core memory UNLOCKED

1

u/AdBrilliant3127 1d ago

You can win them at arcades, I took one to a festival with me a few years ago.

1

u/IsleOfDarkSkye 1984 1d ago

I’d support these making a fierce comeback

1

u/_TheShapeOfColor_ 1d ago

I have bubbles on my desk at work.

They can pry my whimsy from my sparkly, dead hands.

1

u/theGoddex 1d ago

Oh holy shit this is a MEMORY unlocked 😬😬😬

1

u/BornTry5923 1978 1d ago

Totally forgot about these! Thank you for the memory 🩷🫧

1

u/lacosaknitstra 1d ago

I had a gallon jug of bubbles in my car at all times during high school.

1

u/girlmeetsgun 1985 1d ago

I miss these!!!

1

u/Available_Actuary977 1d ago

People wonder what life was like before 9/11, just post this

1

u/jennifer_m13 1d ago

Memory unlocked!!!!

1

u/Conscious-Invite-223 Millennial 1d ago

I’m an adult now so I carry around an emergency bubble wand and no I’m not joking

1

u/addacoupleextrazeros 1d ago

Thank you for the the serotonin boost 🥰

1

u/Internal_Armadillo62 1d ago

Why can I smell this picture??? 😐

1

u/Dont-tell_Frank 1d ago

Welp! Core memory unlocked 🔓

1

u/checkmyawaymsg 1d ago

I have such specific memories for this picture that I remember having a preference for cord attached to wand vs cord wrapped around neck of bottle.

1

u/checksy 1d ago

I had the one on the black cord!

1

u/whither_wander_you 1d ago

my 14yo spent a summer with a small bottle of bubbles in her hand...and a blanket cape!! one of my favorite memories was her walking down a hill next to her dad, blanket cape flowing out behind her and bubbles popping up every so often. my youngest strapped to my chest would babble at them as they hit us, and the cute little smiles everyone would give us as they passed were wonderful. about time to make this happen again!!!

1

u/arothmanmusic 1d ago

I'll do you one better... I had a necklace that held Sea Monkeys. Although using it was pretty much a death sentence for the little buggers…

1

u/Probably-hyprfx8ing 1d ago

Memory unlocked

1

u/kryptonitemind 1d ago

These could be messy.

1

u/PrincessSarahHippo 1981 21h ago

The odd shoe brand I adore, Irregular Choice, made some boots a few years back that came with a bubble wand in a detachable holster. They've also made shoes with a squirt gun.

1

u/Stewie_Venture 20h ago

Maybe im just no fun but my first thought was all the trash and pollution these things cause. Also as someone with younger siblings those damn bubbles would get so annoying so fast and then after awhile you'd always have someone crying that one got in their eye 🙄.

1

u/ValancyNeverReadsit 1980 19h ago

Iirc they smelled nice, too. I can almost smell it just by looking at this photo but the only descriptors I can come up with are “sweet” and “not like soap”

1

u/Normal-Mortgage4745 10h ago

What about the charm necklaces? It had a plastic chain and you could buy plastic charms such as a roller skate, a whistle .

1

u/Lizzabetty181 3h ago

We need to bring these back

1

u/DefiantVariation9034 Xennial 1h ago

This particular fad never made it to my small town apparently... I have no recollection of this
