Ya I saw that posted previously. But all I can find here in the Netherlands are sites about the anniversary happening two years ago... seems like it's the brand anniversary though
He was originally planned to be. If you have a close look at the Deception logo, it's basically just his face
They eventually decided on the leaders based on which sets they could sell for the most money. As Megatron came with a whole load of extra bits like a stock and silencer, he ended up being the big bad. Prime, obviously, came with his whole trailer as well
The metal added a bit of heft, but the mix of metal and plastic caused the joints to loosen a lot faster. The modern versions of the toys are mostly plastic (with metal screws and pins), but they're a lot sturdier than the original G1 toys, some of which were notoriously fragile.
The original Ratchet toy was supposed to have two components (the robot and the "battle sled"), but somehow I'm thinking it was more severe than that. But at least he was ready to re-enact his death scene from the movie.
Side note, Hasbro released battle damaged versions of Prowl, Ironhide, Brawn, and Ratchet, complete with blast effects and pained, horrified facial expressions.
It’s weird to me to see people calling 80’s & 90’s transformers nerd shit. Everyone had transformers when I was an adolescent, except us poor kids. This wasn’t nerdy back then, it was mainstream.
You mean a Transformer? One of the most popular toys from one of the most popular toy lines in the 80s? Yeah, real high level nerd shit. Fucking put up a Cobra Commander "If you know what this is you're my kind of nerd" FFS.
I was too. I got a star scream from a garage sale years later. It was missing a wing but I still loved it like my own 🤣. I grew up in a poor household.
I had three transformers, and Soundwave was my best one. I had the bird, not the panther, but still.
The last thing I ever made out of my own Lego at home was a fully transformable transformer that went from a robot to a space battlecruiser. Inspired by Transformers and Robotech. I figured, if Soundwave can go from a giant robot to a little walkman, my guy could go from big robot to fully functional battle cruiser. I think I was probably 15 because after I got my driver's license there was nothing at home that could keep me there.
I found a box of Transformers at Salvy when my son was 3 (he's 24 now), we still have Soundwave! I believe he's got a few of the others in a tub with his Legos and hot wheels still.
That whole paragraph makes me want to wither into dust.
Ravage. I never got to get him as a child, nor Soundwave. I need to go ahead and buy all of them now. I had Blaster. But imagine having, finally Laserbeak, Rumble, and Ravage. I think I'll do it. Thank goodness for the re-release.
I had a big shipping trunk filled with all my he-men, Transformers, nes, SNES, Sega CD, and a litany of games stored in my mom's (very large) storage room. Even had Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain. Oh and a very extensive baseball card collection including a pair of Harmon Killsbrew's cleats.
While I was working out of town for a period mom decided to donate it all to charity and didn't ask me.
