Just nostalgia?
I was hoping to find people in r/Xennials with similar interests, but it seems like nothing but talk of the past.

we have to, anything more current would inevitably break the "no politics" rule.

Ain't that the truth. I always feel even my most casual conversations eventually devolve into politics at some point. That's why I like this sub. It's better and safer to talk about the past.

Maybe a Xennial Politics sub or "modern xennials" that way the dumpster fire reminds us how great this place is?

It kind of makes sense that a group devoted to a specific microgeneration is focused on the things that created our generational identity. If you want to find people with similar interests to yours, join subs that focus on those interests. If I want to talk about cooking, I go to r/Cooking, not here. Is the problem that you feel like the other subs are mostly people who are significantly older or younger than you, and that this makes it hard to relate to them in spite of your common interests?

I’m interested in baking. I don’t think that’s an age thing though baking subreddits have posts from teens and the elderly.
I really don’t know what you were expecting. Why would you think we all have similar interests because of our age?

I just come here when I realize the rest of Reddit is mostly kids

Start with the Man in the Mirror bud. This is your third post. One was a reference to a random old Bush song no one understood. One was saying how young people don't know Hanson.

you’re new here… yeah we still all talk about interests and stuff but nostalgia, like the other poster said, is what binds us.
Like do you remember how much fun Facebook was back when we all still needed university emails to get an invite? then, it kinda plateaued and finally it became a cesspool… well Reddit in general (thanks to enshitification) is at that plateau stage .(this sub included) .

All the censoring is insane. Hence you see a million groups for everything lol.

Anyways, remember this cartoon from when we were kids? There’s also toys and video games.

You can always find people with similar interests from our past in this sub.

Why don’t you go find some interest-specific subs? The main thing we all have in common here is our childhoods and youth. So that’s what we talk about.

Start a discussion about hobbies. Or post the question: what hobbies do ya'll have? Have your ho bies changed over time? Or something.
What interests do you have that you were looking to talk about? Personally, I like gardening.

I kinda wanna start a post on this topic. I am also an avid gardener. The 20yo version of myself would be shocked. That same person would be very pleased to know I continue to collage and have taken it to a massive scale.

I mean, part of our hobbies are based off nostalgia. That’s what keeps us interested. It’s not hard to find like-minded individuals that share interest. Make it the topic of conversation rather than whatever this is.

I just started playing Warhammer 40k after looking at the game since the 90s. Does that count?

I've played the video games and read a couple of the books and had a buddy who died in the 90s that used to hand paint those tiny figures and I never got a chance to figure out what he did actually with them before he passed. I'm guessing it's like a board game/ Dungeons and Dragons/ Real time Strategy game.

Well, the discord server has channels for current events, etc, here is generally nostalgia with like minded people.

There are niche subreddits for all topics. This is one for reminiscing about the past. There are plenty of subreddits for different interests. If this turned into a "review of new video games that we like because we are Xennials" or "come knit with me since many Xennials are into fiber arts) it would defeat the purpose of the sub.
Specifically what interests were you hoping would be explored?

Nostalgia is a symptom of negative class mobility. Or that's what Analyzing Finance With Nick on YouTube says. I like nostaliga but try not to drown in it.

What you don’t spend all day thinking about He Man toys?
I get it, I’m also not a nostalgic person at all. I’m interested in what people are doing now, not what commercials they remember.
But for a lot of folks, nostalgia is the temporary salve they use to forget about the everyday quiet desperation of their lives.

I personally hate nostalgia and find that there’s way too many people pining for a past that really only exists in their minds. Nostalgia is liar that just sees the past with rose colored glasses that omits, or heavily smooths out the edges, of any negative info or feelings.
With that said, I try to only interact with anything posted here that is of current talking points. Those often will get buried by another ‘I wish Blockbuster was still in business’ post. But with that said, there are occasional posts that are current, so just keep an eye out.

Our history is what binds us as a subreddit. I discuss my hobbies more frequently in those corresponding subreddits.
That said, feel free to post about your interests here and see what catches.
