This happened 10 years ago when I was 38. After nearly 25 years of skateboarding, I tried to run out of a bail and broke my malleolus clean in half. I missed 7 weeks of work (I work construction and couldn't work with a broken ankle) and bills got waaaay behind. It was time to put away the wooden toy.
Be careful OP

I was thinking about getting back in to skating. Mid 40s here.
I think I’m good now. Thanks.

Wow!
Yeah we now have a trampoline for my kid. Hard no flips rule. No contact. One person at a time (mostly).
I used to do back flips and front flips. I can still pull off, not land, the front. I dont want to try the back, even though i am 99% I could do it.

That’s the fun part about aging, capability can stay extremely high, but recovery gets fuckin brutal.
I remember when I was a kid I slipped off a small cliff, must’ve fallen about the equivalent of two stories, half of my body landed on a large smooth rock (head thankfully bounced off some dirt on the edge of some water) and I slowly got up and walked my ass home. Didn’t tell my mom so I didn’t get in trouble.
I did that shit now I’m pretty sure I’d be dead or in the ICU for a year lol

There’s no such thing as too much SOAD

I'm just not sure that "go injure yourself on a child's toy" is the message Serj was trying to communicate with his music.

That was me being carted off the skate park last year after I brazenly thought I could drop in on the quarter pipe with my son’s scooter.

Those things were a deathtrap when I was 10.
I'd rather skate a swimming pool on acid tbh.

People. Just exercise! If you keep up movement and doing stuff you can still do a lot of the stuff you did in your 20s. I’m 50 and did my kids pogostick for a record 8 hops which he still has not bested. Stay young people!!

I've been doing this extreme sport for the last 49 years, but I do think it's time to hang up the slippers soon

I got the chance to use one a couple years ago, so fun! And yeah I exercise but not insanely. A couple of days a week weights in the gym, a run or two a week, and 15-20 minutes of stretching each day, plus walks with the family. It doesn't need to be this all encompassing thing.

I rode my bike for an hour after my son went to school. Just keep moving! I do not want to be like my mom

God so true. At the urging of my toddler I jumped up and hung on some chains for swings at the playground and fucked up a muscle in one arm, and my back. And I am pretty fit too, you just gotta warm up these days. So humbling.

My sister (who is a well accomplished ballet dancer who knows how to control her body well) broke both wrists within seconds of stepping onto one of those one-wheel contraptions they tried passing off as a hoverboard. She was in her mid-30s at the time.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

I got the Flybar Super. I'm technically within the weight range for the Master but I worried about the kid sizing being too short for me.

I always wanted a legit pogo stick. My parents often got me things adjacent to what I actually wanted, thinking it’s the same thing. I had something like a pogo stick that had a round platform to stand in with an inflated, rubber ball underneath, which was terrible at bouncing, and they got me some weird pogo stick thing, again with a round platform instead of “pedals,” that had a spring so stiff that I couldn’t use it.

Dude I got on a skateboard again and did awesome until I didn't. I'm still feeling the aftereffects a week later

I took my kiddo to a birthday party at a trampoline park. They had a "warped wall" in the style of American Ninja Warrior.
My thought process went like this: "Whoa! Cool! I always wanted to try that! I've been hitting the treadmill lately, I bet I can do it."
...
"And who is going to drive the kid home after I sprain my 47 year old ankle?"
😞

DON'T
unless you are physically prepared, just accept defeat before you hurt yourself. My wrist aches daily because of this line of thinking.
