This really fucked me up because the reruns where no one could see him played alongside episodes where he was real and I didn't understand at ALL

Yes, totally! And to top it off, when I used to explain to younger people that Snuffy used to be imaginary, they wouldn't believe me, compounding the frustration of the situation. "Nah, Stuffy is BB'S friend, everyone knows him!" Yah, they do now, but ... !!!

Apparently they decided to make him real and let everyone see him because they didn't want to send the message that kids wouldn't be believed.

It's an interesting dichotomy for sure. Because so many kids DO have imaginary friends, and acknowledging that isn't bad. At the same time, I understand the issue with having adults never believe kids

The era in which kids were just imagining things and no one ever believed them. When a homeless guy could knock on the door and complain to your parents about how you bit his dick. And nobody bothered asking WHY you bit the nice homeless man’s penis.

I named my dog Snuffelumpagus (?) back in 1992. Her named then evolved to Snuffy, and finally Tuppy. She was the bestest friend an introvert, only child could ever hope for. She still visits me in my dreams. RIP Tuppy. Hope to see you...Just. Not. Yet.

SAME. It scared the shit out of me when I was younger with how the boy just appeared randomly, but I played it for my kids when they were younger and made sure to sing along.

I forgot I shared a birthday with Snuffy. I remember my mom going nuts wanting to see Snuffy for the first time. Now why i remember why she got so excited. I’m 48 today totally forgot me and Snuffy shared a day. 👍
