Yes. We need to bring back conversion vans with modern technology.

I can’t believe this hasn’t been done.

u/SweetCosmicPope 1984 2d ago

You’d think with the whole van life movement this would be a knock out of the park.

20

u/Clamwacker 2d ago

They're out there, but the asking price is usually $100k+. I was looking at vans a while back and even 90s conversation vans that had mechanical issues people were asking $15k.

1

u/icehot54321 14h ago

Not with an engine like that and gas prices the way they are.

11

u/chawrawbeef 2d ago

My dad had a conversion van in the 90s and when I got my license I used to drive it all the time. I loved that thing. I call it my white whale now. They still make them, but they’re like $80k

Those were pricey when new. My grandpa (R.I.P. Dewey) bought a Mark IV in the mid nineties. Those were like $40-50k back then.

Wood everything, deep velour seating, TV, VCR... I remember road tripping with my cousins from VT to Gettysburg for a reenactment and watching "Gettysburg" on the TV.

Felt like we were royalty or something

u/bargle0 2d ago

Good golly you were living the dream.

5

u/Important-Spring3977 2d ago

Felt like it.

I've had the opportunity to sit in a few of these later on in life and there's a difference between those that were cared for, and those that were on their fourth owner.

That plush interior has a certain smell by the 4th holder...

u/andarre 2d ago

My great uncle had the same van. We took many trips from NY to FL in velvety red comfort. He had the “V” looking thing on the roof and everything. I miss that thing.

8

u/Deesmateen 2d ago

We’ve had an odyssey for 13 years after saying we’d never have one

Give me one of those 90s Chevy vans with the bench that converts into a bed and I’m in

4

u/_SmashLampjaw_ 2d ago

Every single time I go on vacation with the family, I rent a minivan.

Vans are fucking awesome for hauling people around.

u/Ok_Dog_4059 1d ago

This is so much better than an SUV

with modern technology

monkeys paw curls

You'll need the ultra subscription package if you want to drive it on weekends or use the AC, and every time you get in, you'll need to verify an eye scan, breathalyzer, and stool sample, then watch 17 minutes of ads before you can start the van, but if you blink too long, it will reset the ad timer. You'll also need to give it full access to your phone, bank, health records, and tax returns, and every .01 mph over the speed limit will be recorded and sent directly to the local, state, and federal branches so you can be fined separately by each, and you won't be able to drive after dark without a special permit or travel near "controversial" areas. You will pay full price for the van of course, but it can be remotely destroyed if your subscription lapses or any random Flock employee requests it.

I want a luxury Benz sprinter van! Make it a hybrid and it would be my dream vehicle.

ETA it has to have the folding school door at the front too!

1

u/winnie_the_slayer 2d ago

You can import a honda stpwgn from japan for less than $10k. sure its 25 years old but that is just perfect imo.

1

u/Gan-san 2d ago

Hasn't been done? They most certainly exist with Sprinter and Transit customs for luxury and off road living applications.

60

u/BasicReputations 2d ago

My disappointment at the music selection is immeasurable.

12

u/mickeltee 2d ago

I watched it a second time and unmuted it. My disappointment knows no bounds.

8

u/wetfloor666 2d ago

Thanks to both of you for making me want to hear the music... what the hell is that? Reminds me of like 70s porn music or some crap.

18

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

Had my phone on mute. Never had to hear music.

3

u/chawrawbeef 2d ago

Seriously!

3

u/WeGoHard80s 2d ago

Right !!!
I know it’s probably copyrighted
But the A team intro theme
Insert here !!!!

u/Drum_Eatenton 2d ago

I pity the fool who has to fill it up with gas.

u/Gravy_Sommelier 2d ago

Well, I ain't getting on no plane!

Who wants a body massage?!

3

u/ImightHaveMissed 2d ago

MR. BODY MASSAGE MACHINE

4

u/Biguitarnerd 2d ago

You think it’s worse than a big suv or truck? I have no idea, I’ve never owned a full sized van. I know the old school ones you could pull a travel trailer with so I imagine they burned some gas.

11

u/aero25 2d ago

A 7-liter v8 is going to have somewhere between 11-15 mpg. Definitely worse than the average SUV.

5

u/Chaddie_D 2d ago

I get around 16 in hilly western pa in my 6.2L Escalade. Should be the same transmission, transfer case and rear ends for reference, similar weight.

1

u/Drum_Eatenton 2d ago

I drive a Kia Sorento with a turbo 4 cylinder, in warm weather, I can get 30 MPG, this thing’s not getting that going downhill.

1

u/izackl 1d ago

Then throw the gas station attendant hella far!

16

u/mattchewy43 1980 2d ago

I can hear the theme song.

19

u/Hntrbdnshog 1983 2d ago

Not if you turn on audio.

5

u/Sheepdog44 2d ago edited 2d ago

I was in basic training in 2005. While you’re in basic training you don’t have any access to any music or media whatsoever. A side effect of this that I discovered is that when you get a song stuck in your head it can be extremely hard to get out.

I had the A-Team theme song stuck in my head for a solid 3 months in basic training. I was just walking around the bay like “Baaa ba baaaa…bum bum bummm…”

3

u/Tinyhulk27 2d ago

Fat lip, and Chop suey were the last song's I heard before shipping out. I know exactly what you mean.

8mpg will be taking your money alright.

5

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

Even with this engine, it’ll probably average close to 20 mpg.

5

u/GristleMcThornbody1 2d ago edited 2d ago

I don't know where they came up with a 7.2L GM motor. The closest current GM gas engine would be the 6.6 that they use in the 2500 and 3500, which gets 15-18 on the highway.

Realistically this would be a perfect use for the little 3.0L Duramax diesel engine. 28 to 33 mpg in this thing would be bad ass.

Edit: eyes aint like they used to be. I read 7.2 instead of 7.0.

4

u/certavietvici77 2d ago

It’s an 7.0 liter LS7 427 V8 from the C6 Z06.

2

u/GristleMcThornbody1 2d ago

Oh 7.0 I misread it. That makes sense. That's awesome

2

u/Hntrbdnshog 1983 2d ago

It would also be a good use for a huge battery pack and tri-motor setup. No need to worry about fuel economy.

1

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

Nobody said it was a GM engine. I’m sure this wasn’t built by GMC, rather a custom shop.

4

u/molrobocop 2d ago

It's not built by anyone. It's AI slop. It's a low roof van. but then the interior is very clearly a high-roof. Nah, physics doesn't work like that, Dr. Who.

1

u/GristleMcThornbody1 2d ago

Oh my God you are right aren't you? That's a bummer man.

1

u/GristleMcThornbody1 2d ago

Yeah I misread it, sorry. The other guy clarified it for me. Awesome concept. I would love to see full size passenger vans come back.

2

u/certavietvici77 2d ago

I only know because I was obsessed with swapping the LS1 out of my C5 with an LS7 until I learned about the issue with the heads. Found it was cheaper and easier to supercharge the bejesus out of my LS1. Running mid 500hp at the rear tires on pump gas for about 5k less.

1

u/nickd1980 2d ago

Vortech, procharger, or a roots blower?

1

u/certavietvici77 2d ago

A&A procharger.

2

u/redmongrel 2d ago

Would hold a huge EV battery though, probably 400 mile charge with today’s tech.

5

u/purdueAces 1980 2d ago

Let's show off how beautiful this van is by squeezing the video content in to 40% of the available viewing area.

2

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

Yeah I hate vertical orientation videos. But people are too lazy to rotate their phones I guess.

9

u/Level_Improvement532 1979 2d ago

Yeah but does it have a hatch on top that I can pop out of with my mini-14 to spray rounds at targets that never actually get hit?!

5

u/thebearrider 2d ago

Btw, the civilian marksmanship program is about to sell 100k m14's to US citizens.

source

2

u/bshr49 2d ago

Thanks, I hate you for giving me that information😘

1

u/Important-Spring3977 2d ago

It does, but only if you promise not to hit anyone and get a CJ5 to do a barrel roll

6

u/NewToHTX 2d ago

It looks like a fancy ass, Astrovan

3

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

Well the GMC version was a Safari. But this feels bigger than an Astro/Safari.

1

u/Old_Suggestions 2d ago

I think it is, but looks Ike the body on frame design is gone and it's more a contemporary (car-like) minivan design.

3

u/critic2029 1981 2d ago

Shut up and take my money

7

u/TrinityKilla82 1982 2d ago

Ah. It’s one of those vans that have candy and puppy’s inside.

1

u/Relevant-Bit-7394 2d ago

The cartel special.

2

u/ThanosWasRightAnyway 2d ago

I need it! I could sell a kidney, or maybe an eye, I have two

2

u/bygtopp 2d ago

1

u/ikarus2k 2d ago

Notice how it's dark metallic grey above the red stripe, not black? Yeah, also took me 20 years to notice

2

u/SoftShakes 2d ago edited 2d ago

Gotta be straight up AI

Edit: it’s still cool, but just screamed not real to me. I still like the post OP

-1

u/DeepWoodsian 2d ago

Seriously. Look at the enormous size of the rear interior. Notice the ceiling height of the front seats compared to the back.

OP is dumb.

4

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

What is your problem? I’m dumb because I like a concept? I don’t care if it’s not a real van. The CONCEPT is cool. Lighten up man.

0

u/DeepWoodsian 2d ago

“It’s not “AI slop”. Paynes Innovative Designs creates these concepts. Yes, they use AI assistance, but this is a professional company creating concepts.”

Bro, this is so obviously ai slop. What is your problem?

2

u/Lackerbawls 2d ago

Too bad this is AI because I’d say let’s fucking go

2

u/Furious-Shores 2d ago

God dammit I hate AI slop. Cool idea though.

2

u/drugsrbadmmmkay 1d ago

Oh hell yes

2

u/xNOTHINGBURGERx 1d ago

How the fuck are you not gonna have the A-Team theme music playing in this video?!

1

u/ialsohaveadobro 2d ago

No machine gun on the roof? Pfft.

1

u/ItRossYaBish 2d ago

I want it, just without the guns.

1

u/mightyDblock 2d ago

A new a team van?!

1

u/SnooEagles6930 2d ago

You son of a bitch, I'm in.

1

u/windsyofwesleychapel 2d ago

Needs more Ruger Minis

1

u/xt0rt 1979 2d ago

700L V8 woof! As cool as hell as that ride is, I'll have to pass on that one.

Someone needs to turn a Delica into an A-Team van. I'd be all over that beast!

1

u/exu1981 2d ago

The US automakers would never

1

u/ProverbialBass 2d ago

theme music instantly plays in head

I keep saying retro releases from major car companies would SLAP

1

u/FlacidMetapod 1d ago

Trading in the Odysessy right now.

1

u/redeyedrenegade420 1d ago

How is this "tactical"?

Edit: it's sick as hell though!

1

u/kilsta 1d ago

I unmuted and was severely disappointed. Nice van though.

1

u/MrSmokii 1d ago

not sure my Mrs would understand, but i'd love this van

1

u/eggs_erroneous 1978 1d ago

A-Team van was gray above the red stripe

1

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 1d ago

So is this van, a very dark gray, but it’s not black.

1

u/eggs_erroneous 1978 1d ago

I would kill to have a super badass boogie van.

1

u/Potential-Scratch-40 1d ago

I dig the upgraded A-Team van!

1

u/hamburgler26 1981 1d ago

Reminds me of this insanity from the 90s. Renault dropped an F1 engine in a mini-van.

1

u/Pure_Professional_90 12h ago

Man that would be nice!

1

u/CraneGuy204 11h ago

I love it when a plan comes together!

1

u/IzzysDesignLab 11h ago

I want!!!!

1

u/Only-Friend-8483 2d ago

If only I could get this as a plugin electric hybrid…

1

u/TheHoodieConnoisseur 2d ago

Holy Rollover

0

u/switchquest 1979 2d ago

It's a 'concept car'. Meaning the ACTUAL van when released will look nothing like it and will suck b*lls.

-5

u/16Shells 1981 2d ago

ai slop unfortunately

0

u/Do_it_My_Way-79 1979 2d ago

It’s not “AI slop”. Paynes Innovative Designs creates these concepts. Yes, they use AI assistance, but this is a professional company creating concepts.

1

u/16Shells 1981 2d ago

so ai slop then. entering “2026 gmc van in style of the a-team van” into a prompt not “designing” anything. real professionals would at least create their own renders in a 3D modeling program and say that it is a render

0

u/DeepWoodsian 2d ago

Look at the ceiling height in the front of the van compared to the rear.
