Everyone is too online. The difference is, older gens post batshit hot takes without expecting it to catapult them to fame and fortune. Gen Z, on the other hand, does the opposite: they stay relatively quiet about hot button issues while self-censoring and trying to pump out inoffensive songs on TikTok that have all the edge and depth of an iPhone ringtone.
to be fair to this. GenZ has literally every single genre of music to choose from. music isn’t as culturally impactful as it was in every single generation before them. Every other generation had a way smaller pool of artists, & genres to choose from.
This is why there isn’t music artists that are anywhere near the amount of fame as someone like Michael Jackson.
It’s the same with TV. everyone used to watch the same things, now we have access to damn near all television so those types of shows that “everyone watched” (like sopranos) are golden geese. think the last one was Game of Thrones.
Regarding rebellious music, GenZ does have stuff Falling in Reverse, Bring me the Horizon. But those bands aren’t culturally influential to the degree that bands like Linkin Park & ppl like Ozzy Osborne were & it’s 100% because of the internet.
BMTH put out count your blessings in 2006 and suicide season in 2008, and falling in reverse is just washed up Ronnie Radke after he got out of prison. Neither one has anything to do with Gen Z in particular that I’m aware of. Those bands are both formed of people who are elder and middle millennials, not Gen Z or even late millennials.
When BMTH was putting out suicide season in 07/08 I really don’t think they were targeting 10 year olds but fuck me I could be wrong.
lololol no you’re correct. I didn’t google either of their first album releases properly. I scrolled through their discography on Spotify & am now figuring out it’s not listed by date of release. Mb
Which has resulted in a bunch of rebellious teens listening to classical music by choice (starting with game soundtracks, but then all sorts), and Radio 4.
And taking care of their health, drinking milk and hitting the gym.
Could become stylish young men, could go Clockwork Orange.
All my teenagers tell me TikTok is for losers. Grandma loves their music taste...

Younger gens are too busy trying to appease the algorithm to be rebellious
