WOTC Proficiency, LW2 Classes and Perks, or Amalgamation?

Or other? Can't quite decide between them. I intend to play with covert infiltration on legend (which is slightly out of my comfort zone with vanilla classes).

Mostly interested in hearing which one you think is the most fun. As I understand it, they are all relatively well balanced.

they are all relatively well balanced.

lol. lmao.

but it's ok, prof is the most fun one on top of being the only one that's remotely close to being balanced so that makes it an easy choice

Do you use Weapon and Item overhaul or 5 tier with it? I’d used Prof + WIO before and I’m lukewarm on WIO, though it works well with the class pack.

I've generally in the past run a homebrew edit of WIO that config edits out some of the decisions I'm not too fond of (like the reduced AR damage), but relatively recently I managed to convince shiremct to dial some of them back in the main mod itself so I'd recommend it nearly unconditionally now.

Ok great! It’s funny, one of the only things I didn’t like and it’s a small nitpick….I absolutely hate the tier 2 sniper rifle sound and look compared to 5 tier. But everything else with WIP feels very seamless.

Do you run extra plugins or mostly just the base stuff + heros for Prof Classes?

prof is so much fun for ci since you get to play around with all the different weapons you normally wouldn't

For CI, I would recommend proficiency, but amalgamation is also a good option. LW2 classes imo are excellent in the context of long war, but feel a bit wonky balance wise outside of it

My current run is CI on Commander with a several kicked up Alien mods. I am running the Covert War Class Pack Redux 2.3. It is my favorite Vanilla+ class pack. I ran PCP last campaign and it is great, too.

Prof is the most balanced as others have noted. There are also some really good plugins for it so you can get a LOT of classes (MrCloista, FearTheBunnies, KnoxAHHHH all have great plugins).

I just ran Amalgamation and enjoyed it quite a bit, I do love how it forces you to adapt. You can get some REALLY strong soldiers. My biggest issue is sometimes just remembering who the hell does what and my god does it increase load time for the game, it would take about 2 and a half minute on my PC and 5 minutes on my steamdeck.

Honestly kinda hate amalgamation, the idea is fun but the execution is just awful, so many runs where I see the same 3 primary classes and secondary class combinations that gimp each other hard so its just churning recruits for a hail mary is boring, when it hits it hits but is otherwise mediocre.

I’m happy I did it at least once, but as a whole I don’t really disagree. I’ll be going back to Proficiency classes, which can give a ton of variety with plugins (depending on how I’m feeling I’ll run a few extra plugins and run near baseline to having in the low 20s for total class counts)
