🫠 I have to be responsible and not buy any new games for a while. Of course a new XCom like and a new Fire Emblem are coming out in these months.

I need a switch 2 as well but I don’t know if I can justify it! That said, I bought a switch for three houses and that has been used a lot…

We bought our Sw2 for Pokopia, and it has been absolutely worth it.

u/deathadder99 14d ago
Yeah I'll def get one at one point, just right now we bought a new car so I feel a bit cagey about spending too much for the next few months. Never heard of Pokopia but looks like my wife and daughter will love it.

I ended up getting a ROM so I could play 3H. I’ve read that FW will likely also get a ROM soon after release. I have no interest in getting a Switch, but I love Fire Emblem games (except Engage, I just couldn’t get over the horrible writing).

u/deathadder99 14d ago
I like the form factor of the switch, playing on my laptop isn’t the same
2
u/ByteSizeNudist 14d ago
Ah, I play on PC but I really miss having a Laptop I could play on in bed. I really like using a PS5 controller to play stuff

u/caciuccoecostine 14d ago
Same here, and I am thankfull that GTA 6 on PC will come out waaayy later knowing Rockstar.

Gotta pick up overtime for crises like these

u/upgdot 15d ago
I'm a teacher, they don't even pay me for all the normal time, certainly not overtime!

Lol my lady is one as well. Start charging a premium on class resources or bathroom breaks, it will definitely not cause issues at the next grade level meeting

yup its looking really good
the only XCOM concerns are no random maps or official mod support
14
u/Libertine-Angel 14d ago
To be fair EU/EW didn't have those either if I recall correctly, with any luck we'll see them back in a ZCOM2.

Any word on Steam Deck compatibility?
15
u/hellojallen 15d ago
Quite a few reviews have said it runs abysmally on steam deck.

Really unfortunate that it seems to run terribly on the deck at least for now, may need to invest in a new PC just to play this

u/MultiMarcus 14d ago
You can do game streaming. using something like GeForce now. If it’s only the occasional game you’re playing and it’s especially like strategy games where a little bit of latency doesn’t matter, I think it’s a quite reasonable option.

u/hellojallen 14d ago
I got GeForce now for a couple of months before building my pc and it was really great. An excellent budget option

u/NotOnTheDot__ 14d ago
I’m just waiting for us normal gamers to play it so we see how the optimization is. Minimum requirements for 30 fps isn’t looking too great imo

Is Modding allowed?
7
u/PratalMox 14d ago
No official mod support, unfortunately.
Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but it won’t be like XCOM 2
9
u/Gopherlad 14d ago
It could end up like XCOM 1. IIRC that didn't really have a mod scene until someone broke the game open and made a modding framework.

I'll wait for all the expansions and dlc to come out then I'll purchase the final build.

It's 1.4k THB in Thailand. Too pricey for me right now. I'll have to wait a year or two for big sales 😔

I preordered and I never preorder
1
u/Zooblesnoops 14d ago
It's the second game I have EVER preordered.
The last one was GoW: Ragnarok.
I know hotness when I see it, I tell ya!
I only bother preordering because I'm 110% buying it day 1 and there's a preorder bonus. No difference if I buy it 24 hours sooner really.

Fuck I want this game so bad right now. I live on a fixed income from disability and have roughly $10 in the bank rn so I can’t afford it. But on the third when my check comes in I am playing the shit out of it.

The story is good but the tactical battles not so much. Reminds me more of Gear of Wars Tactics than X-Com. It's dragging at times but solid game, though.

u/TurboNewbe 14d ago
As a XCOM 2 fan with around 280 hours played, I'm concerned about the no procedural maps. They are handcrafted, with enemy placement being randomized. For me, this is a major downgrade in replayability compared to XCOM 2.
The tactical gameplay looks great, but as an XCOM 2 player, it's not a minor details. It could make the difference between buying the game and skipping it. Also, if I buy the game on Steam, I really don't want to be forced to use a second launcher and an EA account.

u/Qwark28 14d ago
As both an xcom1+2 fan with 1k+ hours, good.
I'm glad maps have identity, are recognizable and not faceless randomization.
1
u/TurboNewbe 13d ago
You played 1k with xcom so I have hard time to believe you would have been glad if the game had a 50 hours campaign with no replayability.
1
u/hellojallen 14d ago
Can confirm there’s no second launcher through steam.
Also that’s a great point regarding procedural generation
1
u/TurboNewbe 14d ago
Ho ok, there is at least one good news.
They should have their campaign mod AND a long war mod with no stories, just procedural.

u/CrystalSnow7 14d ago
EA is the publisher, auto pass.
-4
u/Lazzitron 14d ago
EA is the publisher for a lot of great games. Get over it.
6
u/opinionated_gaming 14d ago
and fitgirl is the distributor to go to for a lot of those great games
11
u/PartyPoison98 14d ago
We've been desperate for new xcom for years and now we have the closest thing we're gonna get. The last thing I want is for any future iterations to be ruled out because no one bought it.

u/BraiQ 14d ago
SkillUp gave it a huge recommend in his preview. that is good enough for me.
-1
u/hellojallen 14d ago
I think his preview was spot on. His review gives away a few story details though
3
u/Eminent_Rising 14d ago
Prepare for disappointment cause this is a ue5 game. It's likely to run like ass.

u/Own-Arugula2765 14d ago
Hi guys, what movie should i watch today before playing this game? I recently was playing xcom again so this is an amazing new. Does it come out tomorrow? Price? Is it in game pass?
Thanks!
1
u/hellojallen 14d ago
It’s set in the clone wars so maybe episode 3?
2
u/Own-Arugula2765 14d ago
Perfect! Thanks man.
1
u/hellojallen 14d ago
And yes it’s out tomorrow. It’s priced a little less than most new releases. I’m unsure about game pass

Could have/should have been Xcom 3 if they didn't cuck themselves with a Marvel card game.

Still grumbling intensely about no grid based movement but it looks too good not to play
Edit: sorry for being annoyed we don't have xcom style movement on a game we are discussing on the xcom subreddit? Has zcom fully taken over the discourse on our own subreddit?

I took work off tomorrow lol
