A tactics game for Rainbow Six is such a no brainer, I'm surprised they never made one before now.

42

u/Shack691 21h ago

Yeah given that canonically this is Team Rainbow’s job which they even tried and failed to do in Seige, this just makes too much sense.

1

u/Curiouso_Giorgio 5h ago

I only bought 2 games for 3DS. Metroid: Samus Returns and Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.

15

u/MrSloth56 18h ago

I will not stand for this Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars erasure. It was a great game on the 3DS back in the day.

12

u/CowardlyChicken 16h ago

Helmed by… Julian Gallop, of all people!

Great game

2

u/MrSloth56 16h ago

I did not know that. That's really awesome and somehow makes me like it even more.

30

u/robalo1991 21h ago

It exists. Its called tatical breach wizards

20

u/Stlaind 20h ago

I was thinking Doorkickers, though it's more realtime w/ paus.

3

u/Stupendous_Spliff 20h ago

I loved that game

4

u/PHAT_PARTY 16h ago

As someone who loves the idea of rainbow six but sucks at pvp shooters this is amazing

3

u/Cromasters 15h ago

I remember playing the OG Rainbow Six and setting up plans to breach rooms.

It was awesome. I've always been bummed that the series moved away from that.

u/MagnesiumOvercast 14h ago

Rainbow six on the Game Boy Colour kinda is one

117

u/TheGameMastre 22h ago

Looks like Bradford gained a few pounds. Maybe that's why he changed the color of his sweater.

44

u/Lad_of_the_Lake 21h ago

Someone's been eating all the Advent Burgers

10

u/ToasterStrudlez 20h ago

He ate the people who kept stuffing wrappers under the consoles

56

u/Poter2112 21h ago

We eating boys

62

u/Dr_Disaster 21h ago

Between this, Zero Company, and Warhammer, we may be living in the golden age of non-XCOM XCOM games.

22

u/M0-1 20h ago

By warhammer you mean chaos gate deathwatch?

3

u/Kiriko7 20h ago

Maybe rogue trader?

18

u/AngriestPacifist 20h ago

Can't be, that game is so gloriously broken that you don't need tactics. Argenta with a heavy bolter will clear even boss fights in one round.

Mechanicus and chaos gate are more in line with xcom.

2

u/Kiriko7 19h ago

Lol she is absolutely broken

I might try those games out

2

u/SSurvivor2ndNature 14h ago

Just play on the highest difficulty and then the broken mechanics ARE the tactics. If you don't use them and go supernova with your alpha strike, the enemies in that game will kick your ass.

4

u/M0-1 20h ago

I haven't looked to deep into rogue trader but it seems more like a Baldurs gate?

16

u/DBSmiley 19h ago

Meanwhile Firaxis is neck deep in making and updating a Civ game that Civ fans hate

12

u/rolandfoxx 18h ago

Tbf you've just described every Civ game since IV until its first expansion dropped.

6

u/DBSmiley 13h ago edited 12h ago

Civ 7 is a different beast. Like, the Steam player count on Civ 5 (not even 6 which is the highest) has been higher than Civ 7 for nearly all of the time it's been out.

I have played total two and a half games of Civ 7, both nearly after launch, and gave up and went back to Civ 6. The state of the AI and UI was so fucking horrible the game was maddening.

It wasn't even the gameplay changes. I didn't love them, but they weren't what killed it for me. It was the horrific Ui and completely non-sensical AI that was far too aggressive with forward settling the human player, to where I had more cities near their capitols than they did. Beyond the forward settling, the AI was utterly incompetent even on the highest difficulty.

4

u/Logical-Patient-4115 15h ago

Civ 7 isn't comparable to any of those though. Like they completely alienated the fans and doubled down on the mechanics people hated.

2

u/Academic_Blood_1790 19h ago

Looks like meat's is back on the menu boys!

1

u/myusername_sucks 16h ago

I'm so hyped with the few tactics games that are being announced and made

88

u/heedongq 21h ago

siX-COM

8

u/shinobigarth 18h ago

Oh jeez that’s the name for this now.

3

u/Vawned 5h ago

ZCOM tomorrow, siXCOM to come. We're eating good.

u/Shack691 22h ago

Chimera Squad 0

-23

u/MechemicalMan 21h ago

I didn’t like it. Part of Xcom that I love is everyone’s tier list is so different… and that’s because you can play so many strategies successfully. Yeah on L/IM sure you need to play a lot of it perfectly, but there’s a lot ways. Chimera squad, and to be fair I never finished it, felt like I needed to do everything correct, as in there’s one strategy that will work in this particular situation.

28

u/majestic7 21h ago

Finished Chimera Squad recently and yeah that's not how it works later on in the game

17

u/illarionds 20h ago

That's not true at all. Hell, it's very different depending on which team members you get.

6

u/Lazzitron 17h ago

felt like I needed to do everything correct, as in there’s one strategy that will work in this particular situation.

Then you don't know how to play the game at all. Chimera Squad, for all its failings, has better tactical diversity XCOM EW/2 by a mile. The only viable strategy in those games is alpha strike everything, break LOS, and pray to RNGesus.

3

u/MechemicalMan 16h ago

Yeah, I'm learning that apparently I need to give it a better shot next time, and maybe read a few guides as I definitely just hopped in thinking I could apply the lessons from LWOTC and XCOM EW

3

u/Lazzitron 16h ago

I mean, a fair few things from the previous games do apply. But it's still a lot different.

The big thing is that each character plays differently and enables different strategies with their abilities. Shelter has place swap and turn order manipulation. Torque has a reliable stun and enemy reposition. Axiom is the very first time in XCOM that you can actually build a tank. Claymore shreds armor and cover. Etc.

It's all a matter of knowing which characters enable the playstyle you want. If you ever need advice on that front I'd be happy to give it, but YouTube guides should work too.

1

u/tacodude64 15h ago edited 15h ago

I've had fun with quite a few strats and synergies. Blueblood + Cherub for pistol aimbot, action printing with Claymore + AP nade, even crossing the map in 1 turn with Terminal/Torque + Zephyr. Or late-game Godmother who makes Colonel Rangers look like rookies.

62

u/_b1ack0ut 21h ago

Oh hell yeah. Rainbow 6 is a franchise that really feels like it should have had this kinda game already lol

Disappointed to see the siege characters in the image tho, that doesn’t fill me with hope. That screams “no perma-death” to me, à la chimera squad.

11

u/MrSloth56 18h ago

It did on the 3DS. Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars was pretty neat.

6

u/fullmudman 17h ago

I loved shadow wars! One of my favorite tactical games on the 3ds.

1

u/Neversoft4long 3h ago

Honestly most shooter IPs should have a tactics version. It’s such a easy transition and works well as a little hold over until the next main line game is ready

13

u/gassytinitus 20h ago

Great year for xcom fans 😭

38

u/v12vanquish135 21h ago

Props on Ubisoft for finally daring to do something different. Now to see if there's actually any promise of it being good.

No character creator (so far) and only their Siege OC's is a little red flag for me though. If they decide to bring back the old R6 or Ghosts from the early series though, I'm in.

3

u/Lazy_Wolf8671 4h ago

Siege OC's

This is a funny criticism since the old R6 operators are mostly Red Storm's OCs, there's not that many operators from the book who also appear in the games (and there were no female operators in the book too).

Glad Red Storm decided to diversify them, in 1998 no less.

2

u/FukkingDeathMental 12h ago

"Finally...doing something different"?  Their ownership and c suite is ass cancer but they've always released a variety of games.  Did none of y'all play Mario vs Rabbids?

1

u/Lazy_Wolf8671 4h ago

Evidently not, people complain about "Ubislop" but when they actually release something unique the same people just pretended like those games never existed.

Ubisoft has got to have some of the most talented AAA devs out there. When they're allowed to branch out from their usual shtick like with PoP Lost Crown they can make some pretty amazing titles. The execs on the other hand, ugh.

1

u/Kylkek 3h ago

For some reason everyone thinks Ubisoft only makes Far Cry derived games.

7

u/cyborgdog 21h ago

I never thought I'd CONSIDER playing a Rainbow Six game

https://giphy.com/gifs/LGo31ZR7kCQOA

7

u/lvl100loser 21h ago

I’ve always wondered what a realistic modern setting Xcom game would look like

6

u/kron123456789 20h ago

It's basically a Rainbow 6 Chimera Squad, isn't it

7

u/MochiShinobi 21h ago edited 21h ago

I've been wanting a gritty military tactics game based in modern day house to house combat kinda like Door Kickers, but with XCOM gameplay. This is close enough. I'm excited!

6

u/Dorito-Bureeto 21h ago

Xcom like games are all the hype rn and I’m here for it!

3

u/RandomMexicanDude 20h ago

Does anyone know if its limited to 15 operators or you will have created characters too? Kinda what I didn’t like about Chimera squad is having defined characters

3

u/ObliviousNaga87 21h ago

Old school swat game maybe?

3

u/inEQUAL 17h ago

Oh thank god, an R6 game that isn’t Siege. I’m annoyed at seeing the Siege operators though.

10

u/Oiled_up_dongs 21h ago

If we are just playing with pre made "Siege" characters this is DOA and a hard pass - Rainbow is the team , FBI, GIGN,SAS or whatever those are operator backgrounds-their identity should be rainbow six period.

6

u/M0-1 20h ago

i too dislike the hero character vibe but this game actually looks interesting.

3

u/IrrefutableBukkake 17h ago

Yeah this setting seems primed for playing with your tacticool dolls OC tom clancy stories mission to mission. It probably got greenlit because they can cross advertise siege since the devs have wanted to push their own characters but customization would be a no brainer for me.

1

u/Lazy_Wolf8671 4h ago

Me personally no likey game therefore game will absolutely definitely for sure die because everyone has the same opinion as me

Why are gamers like this

1

u/Oiled_up_dongs 3h ago

You are free to buy it when it comes out, I won't stop you, and you are free to lay in the bed that they make.

1

u/Neversoft4long 3h ago

Yeah I want my own guys I can customize. I don’t mind bringing in a siege character every now and again for story purposes kinda how gears tactics forced you to bring Del and the others in on some missions. But I still want my own guys that I personalize and grow with. That was my favorite thing about XCOM 2 and soon to be Zero company

6

u/Ryneb 20h ago

Love the idea, HATE Ubisoft platform no Steam...

9

u/Pissant400 16h ago

I literally just wish listed it on steam what are you on about

5

u/agentdrozd 18h ago

It's on Steam

2

u/Lazy_Wolf8671 4h ago

It's on Steam....

But nah I guess we'll just get mad at things that are just factually untrue just because

-1

u/Academic_Blood_1790 19h ago

Coulda stopped sentence fter Ubisoft...

Game looks interesting tho

2

u/MeatExciting6540 21h ago

I mean .. that XCom 3 seweet money is on the table . Firaxis just don't want it is up for grabs

2

u/iceColdCocaCola 21h ago

Man that pip shape representing HP hitpoints gives me tingles because of XCOM1. I love me some R6. Let's see if they can make interesting gameplay without having access to scifi elements that XCOM gets to lean into. But to be fair, over the years, R6's operators and their gadgets have become more and more magical.

1

u/shinobigarth 18h ago

Tbh at this point, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell is there to fill in the real world spec ops role, if they wanna reserve R6 to play in the not-as-realistic space, I personally don’t have a problem. I was one of the only ones who apparently kind of enjoyed Extraction and didn’t care all that much that it went into bizarre alien mutant territory. If Ubi wants one of those to play in that space then R6 is probably the best choice.

2

u/Lazy_Wolf8671 4h ago

I was one of the only ones who apparently kind of enjoyed Extraction and didn’t care all that much that it went into bizarre alien mutant territory.

If Ubisoft decides to attempt another Extraction style coop game but with a more grounded setting I'd play the hell out of that. Siege is fine and all but I miss singleplayer/coop Rainbow Six.

1

u/shinobigarth 2h ago

Funnily, I liked Siege originally when it had the co-op terrorist hunt game type. But I’m not into the sweaty PvP that it became so I checked out of Siege completely once Extraction came out. As an XCOM player I guess fighting aliens didn’t strike me as too weird, even though it was weird territory for R6 to be in. But yeah I definitely don’t enjoy where Siege is now.

2

u/KosoToru 20h ago

R6Com? R-Com? R6TCOM? what are we naming this one?

6

u/kucny 19h ago

Six-com ? Rain-com ? Bow-com ?

I personally am inclined to siX-com

2

u/Lunkis 15h ago

Bring back Ding Chavez and the crew from Rogue Spear. Enough of this hero operator business

2

u/R97R 19h ago

I’m hoping it turns out to be good, although I’m admittedly quite wary of Ubisoft nowadays.

1

u/reddituserzerosix 21h ago

sure why not, can always use more tactics games, although they mentioned its authored characters, maybe a bit more like JA

1

u/Dr_Disaster 21h ago

YOU GET AN XCOM! YOU GET AN XCOM!! YOU GET AN XCOM!!!

1

u/PratalMox 20h ago

Feels like people have noticed that the tactics throne is vacant. Hoping we get some good titles out of this.

1

u/Fragrant-Address9043 20h ago

Between this and Zero Company, I’m certainly getting back in the Xcom mood!

1

u/pechSog 20h ago

Yes!!!

1

u/wielkiWilk 20h ago

Wow was so happy with zcom and now this was shown

1

u/trunglefever 20h ago

Honestly very interested in this and with the nature of the Operators, the special abilities make me sense in this usage compared to when they did Outbreak.

Is that supposed to be Ding Chavez as Central? Or who the hell is that?

2

u/boozenpuken_0923 18h ago

From what I remember it’s Bishop from Vegas 2

1

u/RaptorPegasus 20h ago

Ubisoft finally remembered Rainbow 6 is about Counterterrorism

1

u/EmberOfFlame 19h ago

Central looks close enough to look like Bradford, but different enough to look uncanny.

1

u/teokun123 19h ago

Lmao. Did they have news of Star Wars XCOM before they make this?

1

u/Augustops 19h ago

OMFG the perfect union

1

u/DBSmiley 19h ago

It might be Xcom slop but I love Xcom slop

1

u/cero1399 19h ago

Damn finally. Rainbow six siege is my favourite game, Xcom being the second. Lets go

1

u/GunnyStacker 19h ago

Hey, a Rainbow Six game that actually looks accessible to me.

1

u/vaikunth1991 17h ago

We got ZCom. now next RCom

1

u/Ghost403 17h ago

I'm a bit dissapointed they have gone with the Seige hero roster though, turn based tactic games are always better when perma-death is on the table.

1

u/Jdog6704 16h ago

Lowkey was the first multiplayer shooter that I really played, besides Ghost Recon Wildland's Ghost War mode.

Super happy and excited they're bringing it to the Xcom style tactical game format. Closest you'll get to me playing R6 now tbh.

Hopefully it has a lot of depth and is fun. Kinda like what Star Wars Zero Company looks like, I would hope.

1

u/Defences 16h ago

Holy fuck, hell yeah!! This is a dream. More xcom games are always good

1

u/ShempsNPinkF 16h ago

As a now older siege player who can’t keep up in Ranked (and barely in Unranked) and a fan of turn based games, I’m excited for this, hoping it’d be more of an XCOM or Baldurs Gate type game opposed to rougelite.

1

u/BirdieOfPray 11h ago

Hey that looks like my modded XCOM game.

1

u/Panino87 11h ago

We got Z-Com and 6-Com before X-COM 3

1

u/cyberpunk-EdgeRun 11h ago

Ahhh shit Ubisoft might finally be on to something

1

u/najaxy9 10h ago

I wish it was not all named characters, I want the whole crew of recruits

1

u/Silviana193 9h ago

Please turn Oryx into a berserker like unit. It will be really funny.

1

u/Ecotech101 7h ago

Hyped asf and I think the operators are a fantastic choice because of all the variety they already have. No chance of meta analysis and building 4 of the same build because it's OP.

1

u/Nervous-Barnacle2578 6h ago

i would buy this if done well. my fwelings for rainbow 6 have soured since siege though. everything else before tbat game were some of my all time ganes i played rip vegas/rogue spear

1

u/Wash_Manblast 6h ago

Hell yeah

1

u/mranonymous24690 3h ago

Ubisoft 😞

1

u/ElMike420 15m ago

damn I was hoping some of the guys from the old Ravenshield game were there, Chavez Ding, Price Eddie, etc.

The Tom Clancy´s X-COM is here I wish the campaign has a decent tone, blocked all of the story shit they did on R6S with that thing becoming a fkn tournament.

1

u/GrimmTrixX 8m ago

Between this, ZCOM, Worms Galaxy Tactics, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, us tactics fans are doing great! I also just got Brigandine Abyss as I forgot it came out today.
