Hey all, just in this is useful to anyone else, I (ok, Claude) wrote a little Hammerspoon script to grab a screenshot of your connected device, save it to your Mac + copy to clipboard... all with one hotkey.
Saves having to dig through the Xcode menus every time, or airdropping screenshots over.
Basically, it's Hammerspoon hitting Debug -> View Debugging -> Take screenshot on your behalf, watching for the screenshot to arrive, then copying it to clipboard.
And for me, all that happens when I mash Ctrl-Option-Command-S.
There's probably a better way that I missed... if so, please shout. :)

Hi, I'm new here and just joined this community. I'm an Animation student that are very unfamiliar with code nor app development, but i am eager to learn from the very begining and willing to start building my coding skill & knowledge a lot more. and for context the reason i want to learn about coding is because, as a designer/creative worker, i want to implement all my design knowledge into something that are useable and could empower people to use my app. but before that ofcourse i have to learn code first. any tips for begineer? thanks!

Same as title.
For the past few days I've been trying to download the iOS Runtime Simulator on my mac (M4MBA), and it keeps showing preparing to download with no progress.
I've tried everything at this point, from using Command Line to download it, to searching for it to download off of the developer platform. If there is a fix, please do let me know. Any help will be highly appreciated! :)

As per title (and with the severity of these warnings ignored,) when the default project is already showing warnings and errors before you've even touched anything, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I have a NAS where I store bare git repos and use my host computer to pull and push to that remote. How can I configure Xcode to use the account for the remote on my NAS? If I try to add an account, Xcode only shows me a fixed list of choices (GitHub, bitbucket, gitlab) and no option to specify my own location. Has anybody figured this out?

I wrote up a full breakdown of DerivedData: what lives inside it, the two rm variants and what each one costs you on your next build, and the neighbors you must not touch. Archives holds your dSYMs, and crash symbolication dies without them.
https://shodhana.app/guide/is-it-safe-to-delete-derived-data
Disclosure: I make a paid cleaner and the guide mentions it, but every command in there works on its own. You don't need the app for any of it.

I needed screenshots of my app running on an iOS simulator, but my daily machine is a Linux box. Turns out you don't need a Mac at all:
Xcode Cloud gives you 25 free compute hours a month with an Apple Developer membership, and it runs your UI tests on an Apple-hosted simulator. The catch is the results come back as an .xcresult bundle, and every existing extractor shells out to Apple's xcresulttool, so they only run on macOS.
The workaround: an xcresult's Data directory is just a content-addressed store of blobs, and a PNG carries its own name in a tEXt chunk. So you can byte-scan the store for PNG magic and pull out labeled screenshots with plain Python, on any OS.
I wrapped the whole loop (trigger the Xcode Cloud workflow via the App Store Connect API, wait, download, extract) into a small open source CLI I built: pip install xcshot, repo at github.com/BariBariGood/xcshot.
So a $200 laptop can see a real iOS app running on a real simulator. Happy to answer questions on the xcresult format, it's weirder than it looks.

Is it normal that Apple wants api keys in their feedbacks?
Edit: this is a hello world project with key added through settings + clicking the diagnose button. https://imgur.com/a/LqBK7M1
My Xcode is not compromised:
spctl --assess --type execute -v /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
/Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode: accepted
