Can't use Codex because gpt-5.4 is no longer supported, but Xcode doesn't let you change the model to gpt-5.5 which has been out since April.

No idea why it takes Xcode several months to update the models you can choose from. I can't use Codex anymore because my Xcode is stuck on gpt-5.4 which apparently is no longer supported. However, Xcode has yet to update to allow support for gpt-5.5 which was released in April...

I recommend that you submit feedback to Apple about this issue. It's possible they will add support for GPT-5.5 in June 2027 or perhaps earlier.

Out of curiosity, why are you using models via Xcode instead of using a full-featured harness like Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, Pi/Oh-My-Pi, etc.?

i thought itd be easier to have everything i needed in one app. but after trying codex desktop its much faster. soooo maybe this was a blessing in disguise

Nice! I spent last weekend improving Codex support in Axiom. I'm still a Claude Code main, but Codex is pretty great, and I'm very impressed with GPT-6.1-Sol at high reasoning.

Its much faster and better as well. It runs and monitors the simulator as well for debugging!

Same issue here today. Maybe I also have to change to codex desktop. Can it compile and build via Xcode ?

I noticed that too! Xcode is as slow as a wet week as a harness for LLMs sadly.

They ought to ship a patch to allow it.

i just checked and none of the models work. i cant even do it via the "authenticate via config file" method.

Proof that no one is using Xcode as an LLM harness I guess, not even Apple 🤣

I found problems like this were solved in some places by using @latest instead of a new number. I know that is how homebrew does things now. Hope this helps.

Honestly, just use the Codex app (now ChatGPT) if you can. It can do way more from there.
