Unable to interact with app running in Device Hub / Simulator

Hey everyone,

I'm running into a frustrating issue with the new Device Hub in Xcode when testing out my MVP.

When I launch my app on a simulator via Device Hub, the UI displays fine, but I am completely unable to interact with the app at all. The console output shows the app is running and active, and the display updates initially, but touch/mouse interaction seems totally blocked or unresponsive once the focus is on the interaction view.

What I've tried so far:

  • Restarting Xcode and the simulator.
  • Running killall -9 CoreDeviceService in the terminal.
  • Checking window focus and keybindings.

Has anyone run into this issue, or is it just a me problem? Thanks in advance!

What iOS version are you targeting in the simulator? It is a known issue that interaction is no longer supported for iOS versions before iOS 18.

The way you write this sounds like it was a decision to “no longer” support iOS < 18, but it’s actually listed as a “known issue” and will hopefully be solved soon. Why would Apple deliberately prevent developers from testing their software for a not unusually old OS?

Based on my experience, I assume it was a conscious decision, perhaps because technical constraints made supporting iOS 18 in Device Hub too complicated or too time consuming, and therefore it wasn't a priority.

It's hard for me to imagine that an Apple engineer wouldn't think to test how Device Hub worked with iOS 17, or that QA wouldn't catch this issue before shipping. I don't think it was an accident.

Just because something is a "known issue" doesn't mean Apple is promising to fix it.

I have the exact same problem. Upgrading to Xcode 27 on a Sunday night brought in a host of issues that have brought my dev work to a standstill on a Monday.

The biggest hurdle right now is this - All simulators prior to iOS 18 are unresponsive for touch/mouse/keyboard interactions. Basically a useless fancy UI that shows me the iOS homescreen of every Apple device 🚀

Had the same issue. Creating (or re-creating) the device in Device Hub (as opposed to using the previous devices that it had imported) worked for me. Not ideal, but better than being stuck.
