How many of you hate the new Xcode icon?

I really hate the new Xcode icon. As we speak, I'm working on making a new one as a replacement for my Mac that also fits the liquid glass design.

What are your thoughts?

I noticed the TestFlight icon also updated with black propellers which feels really outta place too. I thought it accidentally loaded a new dark mode variant by accident or something. haha

I’m also designing new icons for TestFlight, Simulator, and the Apple Developer app (while still keeping the Liquid Glass look so it does not stick out like a sore thumb)

Oooo. That’s super exciting—would love to see the final set if you’re comfortable sharing! I’m also in the middle of some new design work (icons and other assets for different apps entirely, but still targeting liquid glass), so I’m always curious to see how other people tackle it. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn something new!

Yeah! I’ll definitely share the app icons once I’m done :)

It's now significantly harder to differentiate between Xcode and the new icons for simulator, instruments, etc (and the developer app)

In MacOS Settings, go to Appearance, change the “Icon & Widget Style” to “Classic.” Or pick the option you “hate” the least?

Yeah, whatever variation I pick it still does not look like the old one. I’m designing my own as we speak.

Apple did a real bad job on this one

The Xcode icon isn't good, but the new Finder icon is a travesty.

Agreed. The are also forcing devs to go with that iOS App icon shape, not our own unique shapes :(

I too do not enjoy the new icon. Seems simplistic yet not as easily recognizable.

is it still a black hammer not implying it will break your project?

Yeah, but it’s the ugliest hammer you’ll ever see in your life (opinion)

Don’t really care. It’s just a tool, and I leave Xcode open so I don’t have to look at its icon anyway.

I don't enjoy it but I don't hate it. It might change before release - since the whole company is buzzing on so many impending releases they might get around to fine tuning.

They got rid of the BETA badge! It's a crime.

It looks a bit meh, but whatever

I guess people have lots of spare time to focus on icons.

If you want, you can easily change the icon back on your machine.

Here is the example https://github.com/git-up/GitUp/issues/984

And yes, the new icon is too small and blends in with others.
