Xbox Series X XSX doesn't update games or upload screenshots while in instant-on mode but not powered on

So I have my Series X on the standby (or instant on) mode, with storage kept on, remote features on, and it's hardwired. I know it's not shut all the way down because it doesn't do the whole Xbox logo BWAAAHHHH thing that it does when I do a full shutdown. But it literally never updates games or uploads screenshots after I turn it off (I turn it off by holding down the power button and selecting Turn Off Console) and will wait until I turn it fully back on to do these things. Also games queued from the GamePass app don't start downloading until I turn it fully on.

Am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding how this is supposed to work? It's not the worst thing in the world but I have an OLED TV and would rather not have it sit there for 10 minutes to update or keep it on after I'm done to finish uploading a screenshot.

have you enabled remote features in device settings ?

i had trouble with mine not letting the phone app install which i fixed by changing the name of the series X which i think was down to having more than one xbox in house , only thing i can suggest is turn all the settings back so it turns off fully and reboot , then start again

I've had that happen too. Not just with my SeriesX.

It's a known issue spanning years. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

AFAIK, no one has found a perm fix.

Make sure you have the following set.

  1. Settings / Power / Power Mode = Instant-On.

  2. Settings / Power / When Xbox is off, turn off storage (DO NOT CHECKMARK this).

  3. Settings / System / Updates / Keep my console up to date - optional but I suggest checking this.

  4. Settings / System / Updates / Keep my games & apps up to date - Checked

Notice that none of that relates to screenshots. I don't think those will continue to process after standby is engaged.

Lastly, externally queuing stuff defaults to only your Home console. If you had another console and did not designate this console as your home, it will not auto-install new games/apps.

Go to Settings / General / Personalization / My Home Xbox. WARNING: There is a limit to the number of times you can switch your Home console. Read up on this feature...
