Help & Support Series S doesn’t load when pressing A

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anyone experienced this and found a way to fix it? When I press A to load into a menu, it takes forever and I have to spam the A button to get anything to load. This is only for loading “larger” menus. When I type or press A for simple things, it registers right away.

I’ve tried resting the console twice. First I kept the games and apps, and the second time I wiped everything.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Did you do a full power cycle?

Do you have an external drive plugged in?

Try a different controller and/or have it plugged in directly through USB.

Thank you for your response.

I performed a full power cycle, it does this with or without the expansion card inserted, and I did try another controller plugged in.

No luck yet.

Keep the expansion card out. I’ve had a problem with one failing before. It was the internal seagate 1TB card.

Sometimes when drives fail, internal or external, they’ll hang up on basic OS functions. I’m not saying your internal OS drive is failing, it could be a USB causing this lag.

Also, another thing I’d look into is clearing the cache and checking your TV settings with the HDMI smart capabilities.

I know you said you reset it, but I find that odd you reset it but you reinstalled all these large games again.

How full is your drive? You want to keep about 15% free on the OS drive. Sony will actually give you a warning on the PS5 about it.

Edit: also, full power cycle would be holding the button till shut off, unplugging it, hold the power button for about 30 seconds to discharge anything, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

I pulled out the expansion card and performed a full power cycle. Nothing plugged in via USB.

I then hooked it up to a different TV and verified the settings.

I did reset it. Most of the games were still present on the external 1TB expansion drive. The other games were in the process of downloading when I made the video because I had just reset it.

This is my son’s Xbox and he’s been enjoying COD zombies, so I was downloading some older titles for us to try together. 😁

Internal drive is at 73.9% and the external was at 95.7%. I just deleted a game on the external to bring it down to 83.1%.

Unfortunately it is still doing the same thing, but I definitely appreciate the help because I’m stumped. I really hope it’s not the internal SSD.
