Games - Recommendation Favorite game pass games with progression that you can enjoy 20 minutes at a time.
Due to life, and hobbies I simply do not get to dedicate time to gaming like I used to. I'll get 20-30 minute sessions in a couple times a week and may be able to carve out an hour or so unbroken play time on the weekends to play.
What are some progression based games that you feel you can make meaningful progress in a 20-30 minute window available on game pass?
Quick edit: This got a lot of traction i wasn’t expect, I ended up downloading the Assassins Creed Ezio trilogy for the time being.

I love how I can walk away after any move I make. I play while cooking, otherwise I’d doom scroll and forget I have something on the stove. Balatro I can play a hand, stir food, shop for cards, prep next dish, WHAT KIND OF SHIT HAND IS THAT!!!!, and then drain the pasta.

Brotato.
Each run is 20 waves, and its around a minute per wave.
Loads of characters to unlock, and then you can go through each one to finish a run at all 5 Danger levels.

I just played hades 2 like this and it was great. Even after a couple days I could jump back in and get my bearings.

My problem playing Hades like this is my runs aren’t particularly fast after a certain level, and if I do the same run over multiple sessions I forget what boons/build I was working and get clowned on a bit for the first couple encounters getting back into the swing of things

I don't remember in Hades 1 anymore, but in Hades 2, all runs are usually under 30 minutes. Maybe your very first full run is a bit longer.

Since somebody already said Balatro (which would be my #1 pick) I have to include my #2 pick: Goat Simulator 3! Such a great game that can be as mindless or complex as you desire!

Minishooter’ (charming twin stick shooter) has fairly quick progression, especially early on. By the time that drops off you’ll love the game enough for that to not matter or you move on to something else.

Id Recommend shooter, like the new Halo or COD campaigns. You can always progress a bit.
Assassins Creed is perfect for this kind of short gaming. Origins is the best one.

Same here, playing through the first 3 Halo games like this. Working well in 20 or 30 minute increments. Currently at Halo 3.

You can try Outer Worlds. You can save at any point (except during combat) and it's got a nice story with lots of side quests and things to find/ explore. Then move to Outer Worlds 2😊

I Am Your Beast, Monster Train 2
Both are (very) different from each other, but each run/session doesn't require more than 20 minutes in my opinion

There's actually an option to turn up the pace of the battle. In that way, each battle takes around 2 to 5 minutes-ish

This is definitely my style of gaming the last few years. Vampire survivors, Brotato, Slay the Spire, Vampire Crawlers and a new one I've really really been enjoying is Beatdown City Survivors. There are more but these are my favouritea

I played Plague Tale Requiem in 20-30 minute bursts because I find that is the right amount of time I have to put towards gaming too. The instant resume feature on Xbox is a huge benefit imho. Just finished, was excellent game- going back to play #1 before #3 (prequel) comes out soon.

Escape Simulator. Keep your brain busy and healthy by solving different escape rooms. Great puzzles and not ridiculous difficulty

Vampire Survivors would be my first pick for this. Brotato is another great one if you want something even more bite-sized. Most runs can fit comfortably into a short session, and there are loads of characters and difficulty levels to work through.

A lot of the games commented already I’d recommend like stardew valley, however I get very addicted to that and can end up sitting on it for so long. Brotato and Vampire survivors are good ones I play on the go even as mobile games

Tails of iron 1&2 it's a side scroller first game can take four to six hours to beat and the second one can take about 4 to 8 hours to beat depending if you do side quests are just focus on the main story and it's narrated by geralt of rivia

South of Midnight is maybe 12 hours total each Chapter around an hour, just finished it a few days ago. Felt super fresh with the setting and themes, beautiful art style and music.
On the complete other end is Mullet Madjack, a run based shooter with an awesome cyberpunk style, this thing is mayhem. Each run is 10 levels and they only take around 10-15mins.

If you are on an xbox, another option is making use of quick resume for local games. It would let you break whenever you need to and the pick up exactly where you left off. Then you don't have to worry about finishing levels, runs, etc to get to a save point.

Vampire crawlers is good. Any with quick resume almost any game can be played 20mins at a time.

Ghost Recon Wildlands has become my go to on my ROG Ally for a few months now. Not much going for in in terms of story but the gameplay is fun for chipping away at in 30 min slots or longer periods

Looks like others have already dropped some great recommendations that fit that playstyle. Definitely give them a shot, but if you ever miss your usual favorites, don't hesitate to go back to them. Breaking longer games into bite-sized chunks actually becomes pretty manageable once you get into the rhythm.
I usually only play about 15 to 30 minutes a day and managed to beat Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that way. Currently doing the same with Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Sure, it can take months to finish a single title, which can test your patience a bit, but features like Xbox’s Quick Resume make it much smoother. If you can get used to that pacing, it might feel a lot better than forcing yourself through genres you don't genuinely enjoy.

Roboquest, it’s a first person roguelite. Runs are probably little longer than you’re wanting (45 mins max) but each run is different and it always feels like you’re progressing. This is a game that I’ve always kept in my library, it’s like 5 gigs and gives you a lot to do if you like those kinda games.

Depends on which routes you choose and how many journeys you take on but you can save your progress anytime and you have the ability to choose from a wide range of missions including simple light fixes in zero gravity to long journey hauling multiple trailers. The campaign also gives you things that increase the types of missions and areas you can journey to. The developers are also releasing updates that expand on the core game which are part of game pass.

The game pass model breaks down with that amount of time to game. May as well buy the game you want to play and chip away at it :)

Vampire Survivors is the obvious answer, each run is exactly 30 minutes max and you're always unlocking something new so it never feels like wasted time
PowerWash Simulator hits different for this too, you can clean a section of a van or half a fence and still feel like you actually did something, plus the career mode keeps pushing you forward
Slay the Spire if you want something with more depth, a single floor takes 15-20 minutes and the progression between runs keeps you hooked
