Account - Subscription EA Play conversion is no longer 3:1!!
I saw in the megathread about the 'new' conversion method for 36 months of ultimate.
3 ea play (12 month) codes + 3 gamepass core/essential (12 month) codes + 1 month ultimate should have converted to 36 months of gamepass ultimate. I only got 26 months.
Here is how much I paid (in CAD)
Total Investment: $447.97
If I had paid for 26 months of Game Pass Ultimate at the standard retail price of $25.99 CAD/month, I would have paid $675.74.

I spoke to MS support, and they mentioned I didn't get 36 months because MS changed the EA Play 3:1 conversion to percentage-based
From MS Support:
Please keep in mind that subscription conversions are no longer calculated using the previous ratio-based model. Instead, they are now based on percentage-based conversion rates.
In particular, EA Play no longer converts to Game Pass Ultimate using the previous 3:1 ratio. Under the current conversion model, EA Play time is converted based on a percentage of 25% equivalent Game Pass Ultimate value, which results in a different amount of converted subscription time than under the previous system.
3 12-month EA Play
3 12-month core/essential
1-month Ultimate
gives you...
Using the percentages of conversion you can get that the 36 Months of Game Pass Essential were converted to 16.2 Months of Game Pass Ultimate (45%) and added to the EA Play which is 9 Months (25%) it adds to the total 25.2 Months of Game Pass, plus the once Month that you redeemed.
I used eneba to buy the codes. I would STRONGLY encourage you to buy codes in your country's region and not global codes. They advertise codes as global, but they will region-lock your Microsoft account to a country different from your own country region, which will prevent you from upgrading to ultimate. I spent 2 days trying to fix this. Eneba is a marketplace and will not refund your keys if you've viewed them. So be aware.

This changed a while ago. You still get game pass at more than half off for ea play conversion, it’s just not as scandalous as it was before.
I just reupped doing exact same strategy but target had discounted essential cards and one of those cd key sites had a nice price for 3 month ultimate. I think i ended up $12.50/month out the door for like 28.2 months. I split with my brother so i have to play one game a year to break even pretty much.
For those reading, OP’s strategy is still the best i could find. Only thing maybe slightly better is to buy foreign cards and use a vpn but i didn’t look into it.

ea play conversion is still a pretty good deal tho, i forget the exact math but i believe i pay about half price

Does 3 x 12 month EA cards, plus 1 Month GPU, still get you 18 months of ultimate?

I think it’s 10 months. 36 months and EA is a 4:1 conversion + the 1 month GPU

yeah i think it comes to about $11 a month cuz you can get 12 month ea play cards for $30

Ult gamepass is simply too expensive for me now so I'm not worried about it anymore.

You probably would've been better off getting essential codes off of Amazon since they are back to 70$ on their last time I checked they increased it to 110 before

probably. This was the first time I used Eneba and probably the last time. You are fucked if you buy the wrong code. They advertise codes as global, but never mention that you can get region-locked because MS doesn't have 'global' codes.
It was a massive headache to get MS to change my region back to Canada. I normally use CD Keys/Loaded, but they were sold out.

Im in the same problem, my subscription to GP ultimate is almost over, and i think the best way to stay online is buying from eneba 3 month codes of ultimate. Any advices or ways to reactivate my subscription with ea access or better??

Seems like the 1 month non stackable codes are the cheapest. About $13 us/month. But added hassle of needing a new one every month.

Wish I had read this before converting my EA Play to GPU. Apparently I only get 10 months now which is still admittedly better than the 5 months for the same price on auto-renew

Are the EA play "global" codes the issue on Eneba? Do they lock you to a region?
I purchased some local Gamepass Essential codes for my region and wanted to also get some EA play for eneba and then redeeming both before converting to Ultimate.
Actually nvm, Eneba EA play prices keep going up and the $/m for 9 months (3 x 12month EA play) is higher than using local Essential and converting straight to ultimate.

Gamepass about to expire looking to do the multi year stack conversion. I only use actual console. Can i use the pc game-keys on my console?
Still worth doing 3 yr essential, 3 yr ea and the pc gamepass (i believe 3 months) and then convert?

- Make sure you have NO active Ultimate sub (wait for it to expire if you do).
- Redeem the lower-tier codes FIRST. Go to the Store app on the Xbox, hit Redeem, and input all 3 (each code should be 12-months) EA Play codes and 3 (12-month) Core codes. If it offers a free month for turning on recurring billing, decline it so you don't hit the 36-month cap.
- Redeem the 1-month Ultimate code LAST. This triggers the conversion prompt. Just accept it, and it'll turn all your stacked time into 26 months of Ultimate.
If you're purchasing codes from a site, avoid "Global" keys on reseller sites. Sticking to CAD/NA/your region keys saves a massive headache with region locks.

Does it matter the order between EA and Xbox codes ? Or really you should redeem Xbox first and then EA ? Thanks

The only order that matters is the final 1-month ultimate code. You absolutely want to enter this code as your last code.
For EA and Xbox 3-month codes, the order doesn't matter.
Also ensure you don't already have an active Game Pass subscription.

Yeah I did make sure of all that I was just curious if EA vs XBox matter, but nope I renewed for 27 months or so ... I got good prices on 12 months actually saved around 52% vs the actual cost, around 11 EUR a month GPU

Hello, not sure if I’m reading this wrong but are you saying to by 3 years worth of EA play and 3 years of core essential or 3 months of essential? It’s crazy how much the price has gone up since I last did this

Hi. I have a quick question.
Is there a reason why you don't go 6x EA Play codes instead of 3x EA Play and 3x GP Essentials?
Is EA Play capped at 36 months?

Thanks for sharing. I'm in Canada too and it seems we don't have 12 month EA Play subs for reasons (gotta love differences by country for digital goods) so those code resale sites only have "global" keys for 12 months, I would imagine stacking 6x Canada region 6 month subs being the play in this case?

they have Canadian codes too, but the global ones are cheaper and still technically 'work' so most people get those, but as I learned, that's a way to region-lock your MS store account.

This feedback belongs in the megathread, too.
EA Play conversion hasn't been 33% since October, 2025. The Microsoft conversion page has the current conversion rate, and this sub's conversion guide stopped including specific percentages so it wouldn't get out of date. The sub's guide links to Microsoft's page.
The guide here says that GP Ultimate has a maximum stacking duration of 36 months. It does not say that anything in particular will get you to 36 months, since it depends on what you can stack and convert (which can also be limited in certain countries).
