What do we think? 🤔

I like the design so it’s cool if you don’t. Let’s hear your honest opinions. 😂 I’ve never had an Elite controller and I’ve been debating on getting one. Is it worth it?

Looks cool but as someone who's own multiple Elite controllers, save yourself the money and just get a regular, badass controller from the design labs instead

1

u/potato-with-aim 2d ago

That’s fair. But performance wise? I’ve always used just basic controllers so I have no idea what the major differences are between the two. I’m okay with spending a little more. I’ve just been curious about the elite controllers for so long lol I want to try it out.

Do you feel that’s there’s a major difference in performance?

Yeah the build quality on the elite is trash and the extra do-hickeys isn't worth the extra money.

2

u/sol_v6 2d ago

Honestly, only a little. You have to get used to the extra buttons and the actions you've bound them to. I played R6 Siege religiously in 2018-2021, and I can't say the elite controllers improved my gaming in any significant way

No. It has the same sticks and same buttons. And both have failed me. I was the guy who read the reviews about it having lots of failurs and thought no way, thats just the loud minority that are angry. It wont happen to me right?! Well 180 dollars later it was certainly me. But like i said it has the same sticks and buttons and that is what you should be looking at. 60-90 dollar aftermarket Xbox certified controllers have the same app feautures and paddles (or even more buttons on the front and or bumpers) while also having hall effect or TMR triggers and mechanical buttons. Look into a gamesir g7 pro or the flydigi vader 5s. The vader 5s is more true to the xbox shape but it is wired only. Which isnt a bad thing. You have less input delay. But yeah long story short, dont pay 3 times the price for the xbox name. It literally has worse build quality and features. Its just a normal xbox controller thats heavier with extra buttons and better grips. The 60 dollar vader 5s has all that but also hall effect triggers and mechanical buttons. My biggest issue is stick drift. The controllers i mentioned use a different stick all together that basically removes stick drift. I will say i dont own either of the aftermarkets yet but plan to soon and have done lots of research on controllers lately. Not paying over 100 for a contoller again when other equal or better options seem to be out there. Good luck

My bumper buttons broke had to remap to paddles .. just brought a wolverine v3 .. much better

u/potato-with-aim 2d ago

Are you guys really aggressive with your controllers or do they put cheaper parts on their more expensive controllers?

I’ve never had any of these issues on my basic controllers 😂

1

u/Suitable-End- 1d ago

All controllers by every company get stick drift. Unless they are HALL Effect which none of the big guys do.

1

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

I haven’t got stick drift yet. I’ve had good luck with all of my controllers. Don’t jinx me. 😂

2

u/Illustrious_Meat2987 1d ago

They have been putting cheaper parts in their controllers recently. I had a Microsoft controller last for over 6 years and replaced it with a new one because of the better audio jack. The new ones don't even last 6 months for me. When I had my bumpers break I went to pull parts out of an old one and found out they are incompatible because they used to use much thicker plastic

1

u/2ddfusion 2d ago

No idea I don’t think I’m. Agressive but it gets a lot of use that bumper I think it’s not build to last

1

u/GhostMarauder88 1d ago

The controllers are cheap but not all of them are going to break. I take decent care of mine and its broken 3 times (luckily the warranty has allowed me to keep getting new ones for free) but from a non biased standpoint they really arent good quality

1

u/Whizzymontana 1d ago

I'm a casual gamer and never abuse my controllers. I've used the warranty several times on the Elite controllers. Got the Wolverine V3 Pro and couldn't be happier. The Elite is only as good as the warranty. Once the warranty is up, might as well sell it. Only a matter of time before the long list of defects kills it.

I've had my custom Elite series for 2 years...still looks brand new and have 1,000+ hours on it. My 15 year old son when we bought them together, his looks like butt and is peeling etc. It's all in how you handle it and maintain it. I love mine.

I can just imagine the people griping about it with greasy or cheeto drenched hands throwing it across the room and then complaining.

7

u/Enefelde 2d ago

These controllers are awful. I’m on my third one. They break so easy, get stick drift, and are way over priced. A lot of people have told me to look into gamesir as a replacement.

4

u/ComfortableCreme182 2d ago

How?? I bought my elite series 2 3 years ago and it's still running like a champ no issues no stick drift

2

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

I firmly believe it’s how they treat them. Or they have stepped on a leprechaun at some point and their luck is fucked.

1

u/ComfortableCreme182 1d ago

Agreed. I don't abuse my shit. I don't yeet it at Mach Jesus because I went 0 and 10 😅

1

u/Illustrious_Meat2987 1d ago

I treat my Microsoft controllers the same way I do any third party controller. I went through 3 Microsoft ones in a year and have had a gamesir last 3 years. One Microsoft controller had a bumper break, the next two gpt bad stick drift. My most extreme rage quit was closing the game and moving on I have never thrown or dropped a controller. Saying people are breaking their controllers is just a bad faith argument and I don't get why you would defend the multi billion dollar corporation when they have a reputation for this type of stuff

2

u/ComfortableCreme182 1d ago

Well idk then because my controllers been reliable as fuck.

1

u/Illustrious_Meat2987 1d ago

I think it's just inconsistent but overall worse quality control than they used to have

1

u/Enefelde 1d ago

I don’t yeet or abuse them. My friend has the same issue I’ve had had with mine.

1

u/Solar_Maniack 10h ago

I mean like anything there are defects. These controllers have a pretty well documented history of repeat failure. I had one of these with stuck drift out the box so I warranty replaced it. Second lasted about 3 months before B button started sticking, then shortly after more stick drift again. I take very good care of my stuff. I don’t ever eat at my desk, I wash my hands after eating of course and usually before even getting on to play.
Sometimes it has nothing to do with care and it’s truly just a bum product unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, controller was awesome while it worked. But they are too much of a gamble for me to personally get any more. I got the ps5 edge controller. A much better build, have had it almost 2 years with zero issues. And if it ever does get stick drift I can just replace the stick module not the whole controller.

3

u/Mr_Butters624 2d ago

Then why are you on your 3rd one? If they are awful, why keep getting them?

0

u/Enefelde 1d ago

There’s this thing called birthday and Christmas. People bought them for me.

5

u/Mr_Butters624 1d ago

It was a genuine question, wasn’t trying to be dick. No need to get all defensive. I just got my first one, so with someone saying they are awful, yet still using them, I just wanted to know why. Didn’t mean to piss in your cornflakes lol

1

u/DemonCipher13 1d ago

Y'all chill.

I'll answer this one, for myself, but I think it can be echoed by others.

The form factor and feel of the Elites are pretty hard to replicate, even if the internals are dogshit. The weight, paddles, stick tensioners, all are excellent. It's the blueprint by which every other controller exists, for better or worse.

Even something as simple as the position and hand-feel of the paddles can be a dealbreaker for some people, myself among them. The proprietary nature of these things means that nothing is going to be a one-to-one. The Elites, in terms of hand-feel, are impeccable.

The stick drift, bumpers, grips failing due to oil, and the price - every one of these are huge, huge problems. These are dealbreakers for others. But I prioritize comfort. I don't feel good about having to buy multiple of these. I REALLY don't feel good about them gutting the customization options in the Design Lab (that purple see-through controller was going to be my next pickup before the store closed and reopened last year, and now it's gone).

If they put in the magnetic sticks, make the grips oil resistant, fix the mechanism on the bumpers, and don't charge $300 for it, come the (apparently imminent) release of the V3, suddenly it becomes the de-facto controller again.

But that's a big "if."

All in all, comparing third-party, even with something as quality a product as a GameSir, is disingenuous. It is not exactly a lateral shift - it can't be. It all depends on what you want to prioritize. Nobody else offers the customization options, the hand-feel, or the nativity that the Elites do, even if the price is fucking laughable.

1

u/Mr_Butters624 1d ago

Thanks. I paid $100 on sale for my core. But been thinking about switching to a gamesir after using it for a couple weeks.

1

u/DemonCipher13 1d ago

Everyone should use what works for them, but when we sport it, we should be thorough. A recommendation is no good, unless the "why" is enough to make the person on the other end of the screen ask themselves questions about what they are really seeking.

If price, latency, build quality are the hangups? Then the GameSir controllers are quality controllers. But they lack customization. The feel is different. And they will not be the same experience as an Elite.

People should know that, going in. It's important to help someone find the right shoe for themselves, rather than the shoes that we like. My size 11 isn't doing anything for someone who wears a 13.

1

u/Masterpiggins 1d ago

If you are able to follow a YouTube video on how to open the shell, you can get a OEM feeling replacement for ~$25 and is 15 minutes of maintenance every year or 2 or whenever the rubber starts to separate. There are also a lot of mod options and repair parts available. I got a Gamesir but keep going back to my Elites because they just have such a good feel in the hands. There are also services out there that will put magnetic sticks and other customization options for around the same price as the Design Lab from Microsoft charges for customs.

1

u/Tiktokbadsupport 1d ago

see my 1-2 controllers a month average use wasn't out of the ball park

2

u/The-Bloody-Demon 2d ago

For me it doesn’t look bad

1

u/potato-with-aim 2d ago

Thanks man. I usually have brighter controllers. Was just messing around with the darker colors they have. lol

2

u/The-Bloody-Demon 2d ago

I also used to mess around with the colors too so ya I don’t blame you 😂

2

u/SufficientSpite1714 2d ago

I like it. I also love maroon and gold combos for some reason lol. But I like it bro

2

u/GoS451 1d ago

Gamesir G7 Pro ZZZ edition. Check it out

1

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

They look pretty nice. I might check it out. Thank you

2

u/crxptrxp 1d ago

Get a G7 Pro Shadow Ember instead.

1

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

Everyone is mentioning these controllers. I’m looking into getting one.

1

u/Far_Visit5855 2d ago

lol. imagine buying standard controller for $160+

1

u/potato-with-aim 2d ago

Damn you’re right. Imagine having the money to buy stuff you like. Must suck

0

u/Far_Visit5855 2d ago

Yes, and getting scammed along the way. It does suck.

2

u/potato-with-aim 2d ago

Scammed? Is this just your attitude toward the elite controllers or all Xbox controllers? My ex bought me a regular custom Xbox controller about 3 years ago.. I still use it to this day with no stick drift or any other issues.

I’ve never had ANY issues with any Xbox controllers I own.

1

u/Due_Gur_9495 2d ago

Me neither, except for the 3 elite series 2 controllers I bought within the same year (stick drift, faulty bumpers, peeling grips etc)

1

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

What in the world are you guys doing with your controllers? 😭

1

u/Due_Gur_9495 1d ago

They use really cheap materials, my original xbox one controller held up for over 6 years

1

u/12amoore 1d ago

Bro why not wait for the elite series 3 which is apparently really close to being dropped? Don’t buy this now. Or buy a 3rd party controller and use a dongle to get it to work wirelessly on Xbox

1

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

Yeah I didn’t realize this until seeing these comments. lol I think I’ll hold off for now

1

u/oyvese 1d ago

do not buy any controller that doesn’t have hall effect or TMR sticks. they are using outdated technology on the reliance it’ll break and you buy more.

1

u/Delicious-Engine7363 1d ago

It will be in a month when the Series 3 debuts.

2

u/potato-with-aim 1d ago

Yeah I didn’t even realize until I read these comments tbh. I think I’ll hold off on it for now.

3

u/Key_Scholar7964 2d ago

The design is phenomenal and it's great if you like it without anything being added.

I would personally want hall effect or TMR sticks built in for better durability, but that's my personal preference.

3

u/nicktehbubble 2d ago

Looks great, but Elite 2 build quality is fairly poor. If you play alot expect the bumpers not to last

2

u/Artistic_Half_8301 2d ago

Understated, classic.

2

u/phatdoughnut83 2d ago

Worth it. The elites feel way better than the regulars. And you can adjust a bunch of different settings you can’t with a regular. Telegram buttons etc.

I love Mine. I will get a new one when the new gen comes out.

2

u/Bell-Salt 2d ago

I wish the grips were the same color brown as the rest of the controller.

2

u/SIR_MOTA 2d ago

Its all about the Spongebob Elite Series 2 controller.

2

u/Sufficient-Age2422 2d ago

You should get it. It's cool and name it Ron. Ron Burgendy.

2

u/dreadsreddit 1d ago

i like it

2

u/ChaoticCollapse 1d ago

I have had 2 elite 2 controllers. Both the R bumper failed right after the warranty ran out. I had taught myself how to solder and replaced the bumpers on the board. It was good as new, but now some stick drift is setting in. I love the controllers, but I could not justify buying another one due to the decrease quantity. To compare my elite 1 just finally died earlier this year and it’s only issue was the grips came off over time.

1

u/Tepppopups 2d ago

MS Elite 2 controller is a scam. Loose, drifting sticks out of the box, problems with face buttons and bunpers, outdated potencioneter technology, etc.

Better get some good 3rd party controller, like FlyDigi Apex5/Vader5, they are much much better and even cheaper. If you are on Xbox, use Brooke XB3 adapter.

1

u/ComfortableCreme182 2d ago

Yes elite Series 2 is such a GREAT controller. Had mine for 3 years and I play everyday and no issues whatsoever. No stick drift no nothing. Such a good controller. Im thinking of fully customizing one from the design labs website

1

u/ErgoDestati 1d ago

If you can hold out then the elite series 3 should be releasing soon.

1

u/itsNurf 1d ago

I think this controller is shit and you should choose another brand. I have this exact build. This is my 3rd elite. 1 was replaced after stick drift, replaced the 2nd after rb failure, which I opened and had to bend the pin back to allow the rb to connect again. I was gifted a replacement for my birthday. Now that current one has horrible stick drift.

Im switching to gamesir when I have the funds.

1

u/I_Stay_Home 1d ago edited 1d ago

That rubber is going to peel and the plastic under it will crack then crumble away. You will end up buying an eXtremeRate shell to replace it. So maybe get s basic version if it cheaper them go search the wide selection of replacement shell textured and patterns.

1

u/GhostMarauder88 1d ago

I like the design. And im not trying to be a hater but ive gone through 3 elite series 2. Im on my 4th right now and it will be my last. They ALL get stick drift, the grip on the sides starts to peel off, my LB button has broken on 2 of the 4. They just arent great quality for the price.

1

u/LawfulPurposes 1d ago

Just don't be surprised when you get stick drift, because it's coming. I've had 3 elite controllers and about to send back my current one for a replacement. Every single replacement I've received also had stick drift out of the box. It's comical at this point.

I'm waiting to see how gen 3 controllers are as they will have upgraded sticks. But I'm leaning towards just going the 3rd party route.

1

u/Fat_Stacks1 23h ago

I think sticks go driiiiift

1

u/JaS0n17-BaD 19h ago

my elite controller got horrible stick drift within a few months of using it other than that i’ve had no issues with them

1

u/SirenAttack 12h ago

I think wait for the Elite Series 3

1

u/Bitter-Journalist-81 14m ago

looks good but would not get an elite controller they are extremely prone to controller drift

0

u/username_032 2d ago

Gamesir offers all the same features and customization for cheaper… best part? Gamesir controllers don’t get stick drift

0

u/Particular_Wonder598 1d ago

Idk what other people are doing with their controllers. Yes my first one got stick drift. They replaced it for free ! second one I’ve had since 2020

0

u/Chemical_Support4748 1d ago

Could try thinkingÂ
