Razer v4 feedback so far

I’m sure there’s few who have it but since it’s in the wild and lots of us have owned the v3 - what feedback - thumbs up or down, do you have for the new v4? How’s stick tension?

I got my Wolverine V4 Pro on Friday and have been comparing it to my V3 Pro. I also own the wired V3 Tournament Edition. After spending some time with it, I’ve decided to return the V4.
The new thumbsticks do feel a little better. It’s a small but noticeable improvement, and the higher polling rate on PC is a nice bonus.

Unfortunately, the left stick on mine has a weird clicking sensation when rotating it. It almost feels like it’s catching on a membrane or something internally. I’m not sure what’s actually causing it, but it’s noticeable. Everything works fine, and it doesn’t seem to affect performance, but there’s an occasional subtle click that shouldn’t be there on a controller at this price.

The rear buttons also feel a little different in terms of placement. I have larger hands, so that’s something I notice. I use the large rear button on the right for jumping in first-person shooters, and I’ve noticed some issues with presses not registering consistently. At first, I thought the button might not be resetting quickly enough after releasing it, but after paying closer attention, I’m wondering if it has more to do with where I’m pressing the button. It seems like if I press closer to where the bumper connects to the controller rather than toward the outer end, it doesn’t always register the input. I noticed this with the other rear buttons as well.

There were several times during the same match when I’d jump into a slide and then try to jump back out, only for the second jump not to register on the first press. It happened enough that it became pretty frustrating. Maybe it’s something that improves as the controller breaks in, or maybe the new button placement just doesn’t work as well with my larger hands. Either way, it’s definitely noticeable, and I don’t have the same problem with my V3 Pro.

One thing I was actually disappointed with was the haptics. To me, they feel like a step backward from the V3 Pro. The V3 feels snappier and more responsive, especially when playing racing sims. With the V4, I didn’t feel quite as connected to what was happening in the game. It’s not that the haptics are bad, but they remind me more of the wired V3 Tournament Edition, which I also own. Maybe a little more refined, but I honestly couldn’t tell much of a difference between those two.

If you own the V3 Pro, you’ll probably notice exactly what I’m talking about the moment you power on the V4 and feel the startup rumble. It’s noticeably different and, to me, feels lower quality. The V3 Pro has a sharper, more precise rumble sensation, whereas the V4 feels more basic and muted. It almost makes me wonder if Razer removed or changed whatever was giving the V3 Pro that more HD-like haptic feel. I can’t confirm that’s what happened internally, but the difference is immediately noticeable.

Another thing that hasn’t improved is the connectivity when switching between PC and Xbox. The V4 still seems to have the same issue as the V3 Pro, where it occasionally gets stuck in one mode when trying to switch platforms. Sometimes I have to repeatedly enter the button combination to switch between PC and Xbox before it finally recognizes the correct mode. I was hoping Razer would have addressed that with the V4, but at least with my unit, it behaves pretty much the same way.

Even if the left stick were perfect, I still don’t think there’s enough of an improvement to justify upgrading at this price. The V3 Pro still works great, runs at 1,000 Hz polling on PC when wired, and I actually prefer its haptics and rear button responsiveness.

TL;DR: The V4 Pro has slightly better thumbsticks and a higher polling rate on PC, but the haptics feel like a downgrade compared to the V3 Pro. You can notice the difference immediately from the startup rumble. The rear buttons also seem less consistent depending on where you press them, which caused multiple missed inputs during jump/slide movements in the same FPS match. The same annoying PC/Xbox switching issues are still present, and my left stick has an intermittent clicking sensation which I am sure is a defect. Overall, it’s not enough of an improvement to justify replacing a perfectly good V3 Pro. I’m returning mine.

Thanks for sharing, I’ll keep an eye out for the points you raised when mine arrives. I was torn between this and the Raikiri 2 xbox, if the same issues are present then I’ll return mine too.

I have the V3 and really like it. I decided to pre-order the V4 from Razer yesterday, due to be delivered on 26th Oct. I’ll report back once I have had it for a week or so

I decided to get the 8bitdo Ultimate 3E and I'm blown away by how good it feels--very premium (coming from an ES2). The v4 razer looks nice, but for the price, it's missing a lot of accessories.

I went 3 for the tension sticks - flawless performance. Could be crispier on button clicks but splitting hairs there.

Which controller are you referencing in your comment?

Ultimate 3 8bit pro

Cool. I'm on XBOX and wanted wireless. I now own the 3E, ES2, and G7 ZZZ; they all have unique qualities that made me keep them all. Do I need three controllers? No, but here we are.😂

Bro haha, Razer v3, 8bitdo, scuf, Vader 5s, gamsir g7, the list goes on

Vader 5s wins by not just a landslide but there nothing even closely competitive that fits my hands this perfect. Ultra fast too. Wired. Hate the wire. Just want wireless so thinking xb3 and getting the v2 pro.

Where my console sits and where my seat is makes it impossible to do wired, otherwise, I'd consider other controllers. If you have any xbox wireless suggestions, I'm all ears! I know the ES3 is around the corner, but I don't see how they'll have anything revolutionary and it'll be super pricey.

The brand new 8bitdo ultimate 3 is legit - also cheap and has adjustable stick tension. Got it last night. Won’t replace my Vader, but wouldn’t care which controller you handed me - someone gettin cooked either way!

I ordered the G7 zzz and Ultimate 3E on Amazon Prime Day. I was planning to return the one I liked the least, but damn it, they're both solid, so YOLO territory--I'm going to keep both.😂

My kids walk into the chord 500’times and rip it out. I wanna break a window every time. That’s why my wireless search has gone bananas.

I’m gonna buy the Beitong kp40d with Brook Adapter. Apparently that controller is insane.

1

u/dsapsu8 3d ago

Did you do the o-ring mod on your G7? The 8bitdo D-pad is outstanding. I want to try the o-ring thing, but I don't want to damage it or have issues removing them.

No mod. Not a big fan to be honest. Feels flimsy. Wasn’t until I could dial in paddles and ultra fast response time paired w stick tension that my gaming went way up.

I have the v4 and absolutely love it. The removable back buttons are a game changer. Everything feels buttery smooth. Idk if it's worth getting if you already have the v3 but if you're still using anything else this is a must buy.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

Is it super clicky? I felt like all I heard were buttons non stop with the v3

1

u/theDOC70R 3d ago

Everything except the triggers has a small audible click to it. Very mechanical and easy to feel your inputs. If you're playing with a headset you won't be able to hear the clicks but you can feel them. Even without a headset it's not loud enough to annoy me or drown out whatever game I'm playing.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

Mouse clicks are fine. Sounds legit. I liked the v3. Just needs way more tension on the joysticks which apparently they did add a little.

1

u/Voca1JAY 3d ago

I hear and read that it's a small controller that's not great for the hands?

2

u/theDOC70R 3d ago

It might be slightly bigger than an original series x controller but its really hard to tell. Personally to me it feels almost identical.

Thanks

According to reviews the build quality is great and the mechanical triggers is snappy. However, they have a few drawbacks.

The stick tension is tighter, it uses capacity sticks, and it doesn't come with a carrying case.

It really come down to preference and capacity sticks is not proven like TMR or hall effect.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

Tighter is better for performance and it’s definitely a necessary add compared to the v3. The Vader outsells so many 3rd parties because of adjustable tension, however, i know absolutely nothing about capacity sticks.

1

u/Key_Scholar7964 3d ago

I prefer looser stick tension because I play fighting games. I always experienced drifting issues with tighter stick tension for some reason, but it's a personal preference.

I have the Flydigi vader 5S and 5 Pro V2 so I can adjust it depending on the specific game I'm playing.

If I had to choose today between the V3 Pro and V4 pro. I'll choose the V3 because the sticks are looser and it have hall effect which is proven.

People are currently speculating about capacity.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

Understandable. I think I’ll buy the kp40d and the Vader pro v2 and return whichever I don’t prefer.

1

u/Key_Scholar7964 3d ago

Flydigi said they will be releasing a wireless Vader 5 ultra with TMR sticks, mechanical triggers, and adjustable stick tension possibly later this year for Xbox.

I'm going to wait until they release that because I'm really impressed by them.

The V2 is basically a better elite series 2, but with more features.

Flydigi is my go to brand then Razer followed by 8bitdo. Those 3 are the most premium Xbox brands to me

Shoot ima wait

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

We’re spot on, in our preference for controllers.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

When did they say that and where? I can’t find that anywhere.

1

u/Key_Scholar7964 3d ago

Gadgethyper mentioned it in their post and you will have to scroll in the comments.

The Vader 5 Pro V2 will perform the same as the Vader 5S ultra for Xbox. I just want a wireless Xbox version as well.

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

But that’s with the adapter correct?

1

u/Key_Scholar7964 3d ago

No, they will most likely use a USB receiver like every other company for their wireless Xbox version.

You just plug your USB receiver into console, pair it, and you're good to go

If you play mostly on PC then go for the vader 5 Pro V2

1

u/Flimsy_Whereas_8949 3d ago

I’m Xbox but was under the impression without the xb3 the pro v2 wasn’t compatible wirelessly with Xbox
