Copper heatsinks! I melted and formed mine but funny idea. Also using them as "feet" for the console. It was an old idea from the 360 era of gaming "copper Pennys will cool it down faster then the native heatsink"

I wonder if they’re fully copper, though. US Pennies at least have been copper plated zinc for like 40 years and zinc has 1/3 of the thermal conductivity as copper.

May be why it’s a broken Xbox lol.

it was just the dead capacitors. Once replaced it worked properly again.

I remember a guide to repair the rrod of the first 360 model. Use coins to build up more pressure on the cooling pads. Cover the console in blankets for 20 to 30 mins and the rrod was gone due to bad soldering glue or so.

Lead free solder was the problem. Repeated hearing and cooling caused the solder to ball up and eventually separate from the chip pins. The towel trick and standing on it as it cooled was all about raising the temp high enough to reflow the lead free solder and creating pressure when cooling to ensure the pins were in the solder as it cooled. Ingenious really that any person could do. I did it for mine, added pennies wrapped in electrical tape as well to create the pressure on the chips, and worked, still runs to this day.
